“ That’s what makes them so funny, though —- watching people act completely unrealistically. I mean, honestly who would actually crawl instead of getting up and running if they fell? ”

The witch settled herself on the living room rug, knees tugged to her chest, head resting against the sofa where Cassandra laid. For once in her life, she looked the the actual child she was. A genuine grin spread across her face, glowing from cheek to cheek, giggles falling past her lips as she found amusement in her friend’s words.

“ Technically Hocus Pocus isn’t a horror film anyway. It’s just hilarious. My cousin Gideon and I watch it every All Hallow’s Eve together. He pretends not to like it, but I always catch him grinning.”

Alonsia noted that it hadn’t taken her long to open up to Cassandra, despite the redhead’s rough exterior. Maybe it was the natural bonding that came with constantly having to patch her up or maybe it was something else entirely. Frankly, the witch didn’t know or care.

               “ if anything, it’s irritating as fuck to watch those train wrecks. i mean, oh look you fell down, how about getting the fuck up instead of screaming GO ON WITHOUT ME?? like, what the actual fuck? who does that? it’s actually even more horrifying because i’ve seen people do that shit in real life before! “ 

          cassandra let out a loud groan, a hand brushing through her tangled red curls in internal frustration at reality. humans could be so terribly idiotic sometimes that it made her want to pull the hair from her head and scream at them to make better life choices. she’s been a hunter for quite some time now, and knowing that people actually did stupid shit like they did in horror movies was so utterly shocking that sometimes she had to reevaluate her own choices. was she too settled in the supernatural world, or were people just dumb? 

               “ gideon is a weird name. “ 

          her words are barely above a whisper as she mumbles to herself, crossing her arms over her chest and nuzzling down into the couch more comfortably. she could honestly rant all day about the horror genre. also, not to mention but, some of the MONSTERS in those movies are beyond unrealistic too.

           “ I… take care of people who have traumatic experiences. They stay in my house and I pay for everything until they’re feeling well enough to go back home. “

     She smiled, for the whole thing was true enough; she just didn’t specify what kind of traumatic experiences she specialized in. Besides, having a mansion all to yourself got very lonely very quickly, even with the pets scrambling around her. She couldn’t stand the silence after Robin left, and Bayard simply couldn’t move back to America. Adelaide was all on her own for the first time in her life, and she didn’t like it. Filling it up with people who needed help had always seemed like the best option. They already knew of the supernatural, and when they left, they would be better for it. There would always be new people to come in and be helped. There would always be people who needed saving, and Addy was more than happy to help. “I-I don’t like how quiet it gets at the house when there’s no one there. I don’t like how empty it seems.” She shrugged slightly, diverting her eyes. Perhaps she wouldn’t understand the little hunter’s needs.

          the worst part of hunting ---- she believed ---- was being the bearer of reality, to tell people what really existed in the harmful world they lived in. nothing was worse than watching the phases that strangers would go in when she told them the truth. she could see the denial being the first one usually, the ‘no, no, no, you’re crazy, lady!’, and then maybe they’d put the pieces together in their head ---- maybe even see the thing she was hunting for themselves ---- before the realization would finally begin to settle inside their heads. it was a terrible thing to watch. she hated having to BREAK that bubble people lived peacefully in. the guilt that weighed on her to crush that line and smear darkness into people’s reality was heartbreaking, to the least. she was sure everyone she ever met had experienced something traumatic. 

                  “ that’s ---- that’s a really nice thing of you to do. personally, i don’t think i could deal with people like that. i’d hate to watch them go through the process of getting better, especially if it’s something life ruining that they experienced. “

          Nikita blinks at the sudden change in conversation. Normally in her depression, heavy moods lay on her for weeks, or even months. It’s an unusual change for her to have someone to steer her towards a happier topic. She takes another swig of the whiskey, trying to adjust her mental wheels to accommodate to the new question. Her brain is swung back towards sex, and the mystery it is to her. Even during her engagement, she had never felt compelled towards it, one of the many reasons that she never married. Everything about it confused her.

          “ Perhaps it is simply because I am unappealing.” Her mouth twisted wryly at the statement. “And perhaps it is because I have not found anyone I trust so.” If she had, perhaps things would be different.

          cassandra could remember her first time like it was an embarrassing tattoo imprinted on the side of her memory ---- it was there and permanent, unable to get it off because the deed had already been done. she had a few regrets about it, clearly. after all, your FIRST KISS shouldn’t happen in the same day you have your FIRST TIME. she had little to no experience and her partner had been a bit overwhelmingly out of her league. it’s hard keeping up with someone when you didn’t even know what you were doing to begin with. 

           “ you’re not unappealing ---- i’d kiss you definitely, and i’m not just saying that to be nice, “ the huntress added with a tiny smirk, fingers combing through her hair as her bad mood slowly began to melt away. “ although i do agree, it should be with someone you trust... always. “

     “ maybe they decided to order pizza, and thought that they’d open up the door to a great pepperoni. it makes me feel embarrassed for them. people can be so stupid sometimes.” shekti shook her head with another laugh, the whole idea was ridiculous to her.

     shekti made a motion with her hand to catch the bartender’s attention. another laugh came out as she ordered, though the bartender made no comment. nikita wouldn’t understand the appeal of horror movies. nikita was more for the serious genres. shekti had to admit, she also had a great weakness for a good story, but the younger was also more likely to take time to laugh at the more poorly written things. she threw back another gulp of alcohol. despite her apparently fuzzy exterior, she kept a sharp eye on the man still eyeing them from the corner.

          that was a statement she could MORE than agree with. people could be so stupid sometimes. she was a witness to the most idiotic choices she has ever seen. the amount of teenagers she had to slap straight and tell them NOT TO FUCK WITH DARK MAGIC ---- well, the list was near endless. she felt like some people were almost not worth saving because they made shitty choices that got them into life or death ones so why should she always bother saving their asses? of course, thinking that never stopped her from saving them. it was her job, after all. 

                 “ yeah, humans are pretty stupid. you probably wouldn’t believe the shit i’ve seen people do. god, i feel like punching logic into everyone i meet. “

–✗ { ♠ ✞ ♠ }  There were very few things Nikki could say in response to that. Was there even a good response? Not something her cracked mind could cook up at the moment. She’d glance at the other, pursing her lips to stare at the whiskey glass that was placed in front of her. This was the toll that the life took on all of them after a time – the regret, the heartache. And they all shouldered it and moved on. The last thing the huntress wanted to do was corner Cassandra, prodding into things where she didn’t belong.

                  ❝ I’ll drink to that. ❞  

    She finally stated after some time, taking a swig of the bitter drink and squeezing her eyes shut as it burned its way down her throat. This was not going to be a one-shot night, that Nikki could already tell, glancing at the bartender with Cassandra’s bottle in hand. 

                 ❝ It’s never gettin’ any better than this, is it?  ❞

          a small sigh pushes past her lips as the bartender slides the bottle of whiskey across the polished bar. her opened hand is quick to catch it, not a moment passing before she’s flicking the cap off and lolling her head back so pure whiskey can burn down her throat like the poison it felt like. she could remember the first time she ever did this ---- drink to forget the memories that lurked inside her thoughts. she was a few months away from being nineteen, someone she held closely had just died because of her, and the GUILT kept flowing through her veins, the horror she had saw and the lost she felt becoming too real to accept. so she let herself drown in alcohol until she felt numb. after that, it became an addiction to forget. 

                         “ better than this? guilt ridden and sitting at a bar while drinking your sorrows? honestly, probably not, but THIS is what i signed up for and i’m sticking to it until i’m the next to drop. i’ll admit though ---- it would be nice to have a GOOD DAY every now and then, wouldn’t it? “

              he had been hoping for a peaceful day and so far that’s how it been, up until now. now he was just trying to SAVE his own life; if that meant talking to her, questioning her actions to perhaps distract her, then so be it. slowly, rodney’s letting his gaze fall, heaving out a heavy sigh before returning his eyes back up to her.
