To Everyone hoping for TPN: Sisterhood
I hate to break it to you, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. Anime, more often than not, is made to crank up the manga sales. So it makes sense that you want to adapt a known, liked and fresh story. Sure, you could go for an older one, but it comes with a major risk. Unless this manga is as loved as, for example, JoJo.
When it comes to anime that got, let’s say, a second chance, the most obvious example would be Fullmetal Alchemist. Most of us know about the controversial 2003 adaptation. And then the 2009 came and everything changed. But here is the catch. Fullmetal Alchemist manga ended in 2010, so Brotherhood started airing while the manga was still being made. To give you the numbers, the last episode of Brotherhood aired on 4th of July 2010 and the last volume of the manga came out on 22nd of November 2010 in Japan.
But okay, let’s say that in 10 years somebody would say: Hey, let’s make a remake of The Promised Neverland anime. But this time let’s adapt the whole manga. How many people do you think about actually care about it? Don’t get me wrong, I love this series and the fandom, but I don’t think it’s as strong and vocal as, for example, JoJo fandom. Especially in Japan (let’s not forget that it’s Japanese businessmen are those who are making the decisions).
Yes, The Promised Neverland is relevant now and you can see that companies are capitalizing on it - you had the exhibition, cafe, glasses collection and a ton of other merchandise. The sad reality is that they will earn as much as they can, and then they will move to the other series.
Do I think that the fandom and the author deserves better? Yes. Do I think that the animators, voice actors, sound designers and others are doing the best they can? Absolutely! I know I’ve complained a lot about the animation quality, but it’s not the animators fault.
So, what’s left to do? Well, we still have light novels to look forward to! Also, we can still discuss the anime, because even if it’s not great, it at least gives us the opportunity to interact as a community.
