ok so seeing your art made me go rewatch the young volcanoes music video since it’s been like years and omg I totally forgot how Patrick is like... an actual actor haha the way he switches between drugged and confused to also just completely out of his mind was just very... woah. he has legit potential idk why he doesn’t act more

oh man TOTALLY. i know he’s done bit parts in house and law and order and stuff but in ybc he really honestly gets a very nice chance to shine. the range he has to exhibit for this thing is seriously wild, he’s bouncing between HUGE extremes and he sells them very very well for a guy who has such limited acting experience. hes an alarmingly powerful actor and an incredibly sympathetic one to boot. the end of “where did the party go” is one of my favorite examples of this, where he switches from rabid animal to absolutely heartbroken in the blink of an eye and he sells it so well that you cant help but feel BAD for this guy even if you just watched him literally murder a dude. and not just any dude but one of his bandmates.

a lot of some of my favorite visual moments in ybc boil down to patrick doing a lot of communicating through his facial and body language alone - this is a fifty minute video series that has ZERO dialogue. it’s about half the length of a feature film in overall length and patrick is also singing for most of it so he has to sell the emotion of a wide variety of scenes in a disparity of emotional states and communicate a lot of information while using nothing but his body language and facial expression and he has to be SINGING the entire time. and he pulls it off. fuck he MORE than pulls it off he does a brilliant goddamn job of it. the way he switches between feral, yellow-eyed monster and his ordinary self and makes these transitions in really brief windows of time is super neat to watch.

it also means he’s doing this PURE physical acting when he’s in his rage state, making his movements very choppy and erratic and jerky, extremely predatory but also almost shambling at points - emphasizing that he’s not in his right state of mind, because he’s almost zombielike, which goes a long way to visually convey to us how he is being controlled against his will. when he’s not afflicted by this state, his motions are much more measured but also much more nervous and uncertain. he is characterizing this fictionalized version of himself through very limited means and he’s also characterizing this yellow-eyed “enraged” version of himself simultaneously, which means he has LESS time than the other dudes to characterize his ordinary self AND YET HE DOES IT. HE ABSOLUTELY FUCKIN DOES IT. christ it blows me away every time

im glad hes gotten out there more and done some voice acting credits too, because hes ALSO very good at that!! hes just an extraordinarily versatile dude creatively. put something creative in front of him and he’ll give it 110% and chances are he’ll excel at it too.
