Tell Kikkoman to Stop Killing Animals for Soy Sauce Health Claims
PETA recently discovered that Kikkoman Corporation, the popular soy sauce company, has been conducting and funding cruel and deadly experiments on animals in order to make health claims about its products.
According to articles published by Kikkoman as recently as August 2015, the following experiments were conducted:
Feeding tubes were repeatedly forced down rats' throats to administer fermented soy milk.
Mice bred to be obese were fed citrus extract before being killed and having their muscles removed.
Rabbits were fed high-cholesterol diets in order to induce heart disease and then later killed.
Rats were force-fed soy sauce through surgically attached stomach tubes, after which they were "sacrificed by decapitation … followed by rapid removal of the brains."
These types of cruel health claim experiments are not required by law, and there are more relevant non-animal research methods—including tests with human tissues and human volunteers—available that are humane and can actually establish the health benefits of food products for humans. PETA has repeatedly contacted Kikkoman to share information about modern non-animal research tools that can better meet the company's objectives and save animals, but it has refused to meaningfully address the issue.
Please urge Kikkoman to modernize its research program and join progressive companies like pasta maker Barilla and beverage makers Coca-Cola, Welch's, and Ocean Spray, all of which have established policies against funding, conducting, or commissioning experiments on animals. Coinciding with the celebration of the “Eid al-Adha”, also called the “Feast of the Sacrifice”, Animal Equality exposes the findings of this new investigation within the Halal meat industry in Italy.
Coinciding with the celebration of the “Eid al-Adha”, also called the “Feast of the Sacrifice”, Animal Equality exposes the findings of this new investigation within the Halal meat industry in Italy. Animal Equality’s Investigation Team have obtained exclusive images which reveal the Halal way of slaughtering 100 lambs in an Italian-based slaughterhouse. The brutality of the documented footage shows:
- Terrified animals being beaten repeatedly. - Farmers kicking and stomping on the animals to force them into the truck. - Animals dying slowly and painfully, smothered in their own blood. - Operators using a compressor to rip off the sheep skin while still alive. Animal Equality Italy has launched the “Fermiamo La Crudeltà Rituale ("Stop the Ritual Cruelty") campaign in which they ask the Italian government to put and end to Halal and Kosher slaughter, as they have already done in countries like Poland and Denmark. The European Union allows, for religious purposes, exceptions in the basic norms for animal slaughter, such as the pre-stunning of animals. Matteo Cupi, President of Animal Equality Italy, stated “We obviously respect the freedom of belief and this is not an attack on the Islamic community. On the other hand, we believe that religious reasons cannot be an exception for compliance with European animal welfare regulations. Tradition and religion can not be above the suffering of animals.” In Europe, the debate over this issue has led some states, such as Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Liechtenstein, to impose severe restrictions on this religious slaughter. In addition, a ban has been implemented in two EU-based states, Poland and Denmark, as well as in some federal states of Austria and Switzerland. Click here to watch the video. BREAKING NEWS: A researcher at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, has applied to import 28 monkeys - 13 females and 15 males - from the United States!
The monkeys are part of an experiment into Malaria. Over the next five years, until 2020, 120 monkeys will be used in the study.

Kat Von D I’ve been vegan for several years now, but ever since I recently became vocal about it, many of the questions/comments people have left seem to stem from common misconceptions, or myths that surround being vegan. [which is totally understandable] But let me say this: Vegans typically have lower cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, lower rates of Type 2 diabetes, lower body mass indexes, a lower risk of death from heart disease, and lower overall cancer rates. Science and research confirms that you don’t need meat to be healthy at all, in fact statistics point to quite the opposite. No, your hair won’t fall out - mines healthy and shiny as hell. No, your skin doesn’t turn yellow or gray - mine’s never looked as healthy as it does now. No, if you eat right, you won’t get all skinny and weak - I have plenty of boobs and ass, and I’M HYPER AS FUCK!
