“Look, I’m sorry, okay?” Britani sighs, unsure how to swing the conversation back in her favour, back to being positive. “I’m sorry that you came all this way for me to turn out to be an absolute jackass.” She says with a helpless shrug.
She frowns, anger steadily filtering through her at the thinly veiled accusation. “I do remember our conversations.” She bites back, folding her arms across her chest. “I didn’t… Look, I didn’t mean it like that, okay? I just… Not a lot of things work out for me, so when this thing between us started, my stupid self preservation kicked in, and it was easier to convince myself that it might all be fake, than that someone actually wanted me.” She admits with a clenched jaw, already regretting letting the truth escape. “And yeah, its a shitty excuse, but, you’re clearly so out of my league and could do miles better so…” She says quietly with a small shrug.
“You should be sorry!” The words slip from her lips without a thought, anger fuelling them, before she lets out a soft sigh. “I’m sorry, I didn’t --”
She waits, staying completely silent as the other explains herself, forcing herself to hold in any responses until the other was completely done speaking, only then responding, forcing her voice to remain as calm as possible.
“I know I shouldn’t be mad at you for the self preservation thing, because I get that, I do, especially when this all started I wasn’t sure if it was going to go anywhere, considering -- considering I didn’t intend for it to.” She speaks quietly, the last part coming out as a mere whisper, almost afraid of what would happen if she spoke any louder. “And you’re right, I probably do deserve better, but right now, I don’t want better. I want this to work.”
