1962 Lincoln Continental convertible at a car show at a local church in the Chicago area.

I don’t remember where I’ve heard it before but I can imagine it being true that a four door convertible’s handling can be compared to a wet cardboard box on wheels.  The structural rigidity of a roof helps the handling of two-door cars, but a four-door car can become a lumbering mass on wheels without a roof.  But not all cars need to be sports cars to be impressive or likable.  When seeing the fourth generation Continental in person, it’s hard to deny its style and grace.  I was stunned by how it looked.  Its seemingly endless sharp, straight lines complemented by chrome accents and topped off with a carefully designed grille work together with the 4 oppositely opening doors and canvas top to create a car that brings elegance to a uniquely American style.  In the case of the Continental, the word “glamour” comes to mind.
