Jess and Rogue: The Field Trip
@proud-poliosis
For some reason, museums fascinated Jess. So many displays, so many interesting factsâŠso many useful things to use as a weapon to stop the guy whoâd held up the bar. Sheâd been in the back when sheâd heard the guy demanding cash from poor Tina. By the time she made it out front, the guy was halfway out the door. Naturally, Jess had given chase. She knew Tina would be all rightâthe girl was cursing everyone from the guy to his Neanderthal ancestors as she dialed 911.
The guy hadnât realized he was being chased until Jess had almost caught himâwell, sheâd yanked off his hat. Greasy hair tumbled down and the guy had sworn loudly before bolting.
And for some reason, museums were his ideal hideout.
ââŠand if you look that way, boys and girls, youâll see the marine exhibitâŠâ
Great, a tour guide. With kids. Jess increased her pace. She was going to have to get him before he decided hostage taking would make an easy escape.
As her luck would have it, the guy tripped over a wet floor signâoh the ironyâand belly flopped onto the wet floor, skidding to a halt right in front of a group of kids on a field trip.
âGotcha!â Jess barked, using the wet floor to slide over and place her boot on his back. âDidnât your mother ever teach you that armed robbery is illegal, not to mention veryâŠvery rude?â
She was panting. This slime bag had made her pant.
Growling, Jess knelt down and grabbed the guyâs wrists. âAnyone have a hairband or something I can use?â she called.
âHere,â said a voice, and a hand held out what looked like a purse strap.
