RIP Prince Be
Lately I’ve been reading a lot of sci-fi and fantasy, where the names are as fun as the stories. And I can’t help but imagine them as band names. I can just see them, lit up as banners on stages, with a group rocking out in front of them. Maybe on t-shirts in Hot Topic. Or just on t-shirts period. Authors, please make these shirts.

I’ve been getting a lot of these lately, and I guess I just want you all to know what I think when I read them.
17 Twitter reactions that point out the utter absurdity of the Rachel Dolezal interview
4 words said it all, “I identify as black.” Reaction online was swift, with many people unforgiving of Dolezal’s justifications and taking to the Today Show’s official #OrangeRoom hashtag to share their opinions. One particular insightful tweet nailed the unfortunate likely outcome of all this.

As events commemorating “Bloody Sunday” continue this weekend, take a look back at some of the photos of our nation’s history leading up to the march from Selma to Montgomery and the subsequent passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965.

Holy shit this is a serious contender for the best post I’ve ever seen on tumblr.

One Week of Harassment on Twitter
Ever since I began my Tropes vs Women in Video Games project, two and a half years ago, I’ve been harassed on a daily basis by irate gamers angry at my critiques of sexism in video games. It can sometimes be difficult to effectively communicate just how bad this sustained intimidation campaign really is. So I’ve taken the liberty of collecting a week’s worth of hateful messages sent to me on Twitter. The following tweets were directed at my @femfreq account between 1/20/15 and 1/26/15.
