reading the locked tomb series is so interesting because it's all fun and games until suddenly it's an unsteady "griddle" and the end of a wedding vow and then it's "harrowhark, i gave you my whole life and you didn't even want it" and then i'm on the floor, sobbing

I just started Harrow the ninth and the shift in tone… was both jarring and kind of hilarious.

rereading GtN is so funny. harrow goes missing and gideon flies into full panic mode, spends her whole morning desperately searching, says "ugh I give up, she can just die", eats lunch and then immediately recommits to searching again, dissociates out of stress when she learns Harrow's blood is everywhere, breaks her vow of silence to try and get help for Harrow, nearly breaks her wrists trying to open the door in panic, sprints her way down to Harrow, finds that she's okay and is immediately like

haha. as if i even cared. whatever

i have a lot of thoughts about “first flower of my house” but perhaps the one that makes me want to chew glass the most is the fact that she called gideon a flower on a planet of dead things. we trod you underfoot. you refuse to die. first flower because you are the first thing to truly live on a dying house, where everyone else is either dead or on their way out. you are young and vital and alive.
