girls who can run in heels should be feared
(via vasilikikblr)
Millaâs eyes widened watching the boy struggle to regain his legs but he found himself giving up that struggle to rest for a moment longer. In the silence that followed she tried to observe him further. His hood made it difficult but it had slipped backward just an inch that she could tell he was rather young. Not young like her smallest companion Elize but more so like Jude. Perhaps they could even be close in age? Well it was a guess.Â
Yet the one thing that still stumped the swordsman was the designs on his clothing. Nothing about them showed any sign of tribe nor an emblem pertaining to Rieze Maxia. Considering her time in Elympios even then she had seen nothing even similar to it before. Perhaps the thought that had stuck itself at the forefront of her suspicious was correct. This boy might have come from somewhere other than Rieze Maxia or Elympios and it all centered back to the discovery of that portal of light. His question broke her analytical thought stream and she would decide when to revive it later.
Turning to the side she gave a curt nod to the villagers that remained gathered just up the hill. At the gesture they all dispersed knowing that sheâd take charge of their surprise guest and went about their routines. Returning her attention back to the younger crossed her arms over her chest relieved to be rid of all those eyes on her back.Â
âThis is Nia Khera, the village of spirits.â Her answer was a little hard to explain seeing as to most this was just a place inhabited by the more traditional and nomadic kind.Â
More people would have guessed the capital city of Fennmont to hold that title seeing as everything was created and illuminated by spirit artes.
âWhile Iâm not as adept as most,â she paused uncrossing her arms to play them on her hips instead, âIf youâll allow me I can heal your minor head injury.â
â I want to know about myself. I want to know what went through your mind before I was given birth. â
âWhat? Does he not know what a stream is? because -â
The quick witted voice of Sylph was scolded immediately by Undine as their conversation faded from her mind. She was sure the wind spirit hadnât meant to make such a rude sounding comment not that the man could hear to call it one. Sylphâs statement did leave one thing on Millaâs mind which was how vague the question was. There were so many possible answers she could give which made her brain hurt thinking too hard about which one was the most appropriate. What a vexing question.
âThe village of spirits, Nia Khera.âÂ
Her answer was simple enough to describe the location he was probably asking for. However, she was curious why he asked what is rather than where. The blonde shifted her position so that her arms lay crossed over her chest but still facing the man on her side of the small stream.Â
âIf you follow this stream up the incline youâll arrive at the shrine of Maxwell but passing through the spiritway isnât recommended. The monsters are too aggressive in the night.âÂ
Thankfully the sky was practically cloudless and the moon was round and full tonight making this conversation decently lit. If not Milla might have summoned Efreet for use as an over sized lanturn and furnace.Â
Nighttime Fears
Akita had let curiosity win him over and now he was paying for it. Aruji and the bigger swords had told him and the others not to enter the bright portal, but since Kousetsu-san and Jiji-nii and Kogitsunemaru-san had done it it couldnât be too bad, right? Wrong. So wrong.
Having snuck through the portal when he should have been doing fieldwork, Akita had gone into the first pillar that wasnât his, too in shock to really understand the Stargate. This world he entered, he didnât like it. Nighttime seemed eternal, and nighttime reminded him of fighting at Ikedaya, and that⌠that was scary. This place was also overwhelmingly crowded compared to the Citadel, and Akita soon found himself very, very lost.
Wandering around, more nervous with every passing minute, the pink haired sword soon saw a figure that was almost familiar. She looked liked his brother Midare-niichan, but prettier, so almost immediately he ran up to her and grabbed her sleeve, tears in his eyes as he looked up at her.
âM-master-neechan, Iâm lost and the d-dark is scary!âAkita whined, uncaring that they didnât know each other, he just wanted help and to try and get home! Wherever that was in this place.
It had been quite some time since her last visit to the Rashugal capital city of Fennmont and Milla had hoped to catch a familiar researcher before his leave to Elympios. She was grateful that Leia always seemed to know where his feet was at almost any given minute. However, even the great spirit Maxwell had to pause her steps to admire the splendor of the city. She had made it to the center square which was alive with activity as it was the crossroads if you wanted to get anywhere in Fennmont. Despite itâs eternal night sky the time was actually around midday so the amount of people out and about was to be expected. But of course there would always be something was also quite unexpected.Â
âOh!â She was taken by surprise at the tugging of her glove and the sight of a small child almost in tears.Â
The young boy had a strange way of speaking but immediately she caught his complaint of the dark. Her brow raised as she took a look around them to find that the lanterns were still lit with their brilliant spirit artes and the treetops that formed the buildings of Fennmont still glowed and shimmered as usual. As far as Milla was concerned and those around her there was plenty of light for them. However, for someone unfamiliar with the spirit clime of the city it could prove a little spooky for some taste. Turning her attention back to the shaking child she was at a loss on what to do.Â
âYou could comfort him as you do Elise! Ya know...like when she gets all nervous and all.â
One spunky and playful voice rushed into her thoughts in an attempt to suggest a course of action. While Elise wasnât exactly fearful of the dark it was worth attempting Sylphâs idea. Milla raised the hand not currently held fast by the smaller and brushed whatever pinks locks werenât hidden under his hat and out from his face.Â
âIf you hold my hand Iâm sure everything wonât seem so dark and scary.â Milla pulled the hand occupied with his locks away and offered it to him with an assuring smile. "Shall we try?"Â
@dxrknocturne
The night was normally a reserved period for rest and comfort. It was for humans and even monsters to rejuvenate their weary bones and rise with the sun when day breaks. But for a spirit like herself who needed rest only as a luxury it was a time for thinking and starlit strolls. Nia Khera was quiet as she weaved between itâs dome shaped homes as itâs inhabitants had gone to sleep some time ago. The only sounds came from the running streams etched in the earth around the village and the few temperamental cattle that remained awake to graze more. Her thoughts drifted towards her more human companions currently divided among Rieze Maxia. The fondness she had for each of them naturally left her questioning their current well being and when they would all meet once again. Of course she knew it would be when the time was right and when they all had completed their own agendas.
The swordsman had paused in front of one of four small shrines that were placed around the village. Each housed a special artifact connecting to one of the four great spirits. This one in particular was Undine, the great spirit of water. Milla raised one gloved hand towards the candles that sat on the top of the wooden shrine to perform a spirit arte that would light them. The lesser spirits accepted and set the wax aflame so she could see the path a bit better but even Milla noticed there was a nervous sense about them.
âI wonder...âÂ
Something down the path was making the spirits uneasy and as such it was her duty to get to the bottom of it. Or perhaps it was also a touch of curiosity. If she could recall there was a stream a ways on the edge of the village where she had discovered an unusual portal of light a mere few days ago. Perhaps it could be that? However, when she made it to the end she found what was probably the cause of the lesser spirits grief. One human. In comparison to her he was quite tall and looming which might fright a small child if they happen to come across him in this dark hour. His clothes seemed to be mostly black and his hair the same and left long. It quickly came across her mind that this person oddly resembled King Gaius of Auj Oule. Perhaps the lesser spirits in Nia Khera hadnât quite forgiven her former enemy but sheâd make note to assess it later.Â
Being as straightforward as she was her steps continued until she stood across from the traveler on the opposite side of the stream.Â
âItâs unusual for people to be passing through here and at such a late hour.âÂ

âMillaâ
There was a gentle feeling that flowed into her mind as the voiced called to her by name. It was like the coolness of water when being submerged and wrapped in itâs weightlessness. Only one of her four spiritual companions could bring about such a feeling.
âYes Undine?â Milla asked aloud as she opened her eyes and broke meditation. She was met with the view of an empty home save for furniture left unused in quite some time. Clay containers settled in the corner remained filled with patterned cloth and beast feathers that probably took quite a few hunts to collect. One grey fur lined jacket remained hung on a hook near the door and left behind. The home of her handmaid had been abandoned for a short while which allowed her to take in the small comfort it brought and meditate. That is until a short interruption just a moment ago.
âSomething strange has appeared at the gateâ
This piped Millaâs interest. The Four would never announce anything that didnât have a significant meaning. While Nia Khera was a secluded village and unlikely to be labeled on current maps it wasnât unusual for a merchant or lone traveler to appear from time to time. Clearly what Undine had sensed was nothing of this sort. She stood from her cushioned mat fully intending to investigate the matter. With a short few steps her gloved hand opened the door revealing the bright blue sky of her beloved Rieze Maxia. The village of Maxwell was blessed with such a rare view of itâs natural landscape. As she closed the door a light breeze tousled her long hair.
The entrance to the village wasnât that far from Ivarâs home and as she strolled through itâs residents stopped their actions to kneel and bow their heads in her passing. The swordsman came to find a small group of Nia Kherans had huddled a short distance from the arched gate and focusing on something she couldnât quite see through the crowd.
âI donât suppose someone can tell me what has you all rather anxious?â She asked not one in particular but the sound of their incarnate spiritual belief had everyone instantly turned towards her and on knee. One villager, a young man, took it upon himself to answer her curiosity. âL-Lord Maxwell! Weâve found a young boy unconscious but we arenât quite sure what to do.â
With a quick thank you she easily walked through the kneeling bodies and continued closer to the unmoving one. It was without a doubt a younger human male and dressed in an unusual garb in which Milla couldnât compare anything to. Perhaps the design on the boyâs coat was what Jude and Leia explained as a âtrendâ during their extended stay in Fennmont. Spiritual being or not she couldnât simply leave him there no matter if he was a lost traveler or exhausted trader.
She hovered over him just slight and called out, âWe have better places for you to sleep than on the ground.â
