how long ??  how long had those words had him in a  chokehold  ,  how long had they weighed him down  ,  curled around his heart like a snake ??  a gloved hand grips the fabric of his jacket tightly  ,  eyes shut below the lip of his hood.  he had hoped to leave quietly  ,  to exit eraqus’ life as painlessly as possible.  he loves him.  he loves him.  he loves eraqus more than anything  ,  he wishes he could stay.  but he’s too far gone  ,  eraqus can’t save him now.

i know that’s not enough.

a strangled noise leaves his throat when the words won’t come out  ,  fingers curling tightly  ,  lower lip trembling.  it’s not enough  ,  it won’t be enough  ,  eraqus can love him all he wants  ,  but xehanort knows it won’t be enough  ,  his love can’t save him.

xehanort, seriously and truly, does not know if he has the capacity to love someone else.  he thinks he might come close to it with eraqus, he does feel something, but he’s not sure if that’s love.  he’s never really seen love or been loved, so he doesn’t know

anyways !!  xehanort has to have someone explain to him that ‘you’re sad and running away because you cared about people and their loss is affecting you’ because !!  people don’t, and up to this point haven’t, ever fucking cared about him !!  and he hasn’t cared about them !!  he has a tendency towards the psychopathic, but he does have feelings !!  he just can’t fucking recognize that he cares bc he doesn’t fucking know that he cares !!  someone who’s literally never been loved before is not going to know what it looks like !!  and the realization is going to terrify him !!  like ‘i can’t care about people, there’s more important things, i have things i need to do and emotional attachment will only slow me down’
