This is bigger than the child discussion but more people need to understand the overabundsnce of any virtue becomes a vice. And if taken to the extreme, it becomes bonofide evil.
The very concept of virtue is predicated on balance.
In the context of children, a child who had overly permissive parents is a victim of emotional neglect.
People who grow up with parents who rarely said no, rarely made them do their homework, made them stick to commitments, rarely corrected them when they were wrong or literally just gave them everything they asked for with no regard or assessment- become stymied adults who don't know how to tell themselves no or follow through. These people struggle with self-discipline, self-respct and boundaries all their life.
Overly permissive parents tend to be the type of people who value their children liking them in the moment over their long term well-being.
A parent who is unwilling to suffer the unpleasantness of you disliking them- even if its for your own good in the long run- is a selfish and cowardly person. And what might seem like kindness in the moment masks a deep act of long term cruelty.
People go to therapy for years to try to shake off the damage done by a parent who was so afraid of being the bad guy they let you do whatever you want.
So your statement is objectively untrue. You can spoil a child. Sometimes the word "no" is the kindest word an immature mind can hear.
