what if the Mondays were on the run because Zak Monday was revealed to be Kur way sooner than Zak Saturday and what if the Shadow World was twisted because of Zak Monday’s powers running amok?

Revisiting the Black Monday episode the final scene where Zak Monday wants to send his family off really got me thinking. They’re supposedly “evil” or maybe just very, very twisted, still mostly cooperating despite seemingly hating each other. And yet. When Zak Monday turns on his family 

they look astonished. Sad. Hurt. Betrayed. This is Solomon Doc Monday’s last words as his son attempts to cast him aside.

This makes me think that despite their attitude they still loved each other. They were selfish and twisted and ready to knock others down for their gains, but they still staid stuck together. When Zak turned on them they didn’t try to run away or take the mirror from him, they just... accepted it. It really makes me wonder what was it like to live in the Shadow World. Why were they pursued in the first place? Could it be that this mental strain twisted them to be the way they are? Were they once also a loving family that was torn apart by the world, the same way the Saturday family suffered once Zak was revealed to be Kur?

It always puzzled me how the Smoke Mirror was never an issue, there were no abnormalities even when the mirror was in Paris, until Zak came near it. Zak who is Kur.

i really love how this series, mainly targeted to kids, tapped into portraying ptsd

- doc unrelenting tension in argost's mansion which pinnacled in a terrifying breakdown when he thought he lost his family, it left his normally coolheaded mind burning with anger and when zak called out to him his voice spunded so fragile, terrified that he was just hallucinating and no one was there

- drew's terror of losing her family, especially zak who always ended up in some mess one way or another and how her hatred of argost was strong enough that she pushed her husband away and she considered going after him instead of comforting her child, something she normally would never even dare to think of

- doyle having trouble integrating into a family, having lots of clashes for his more expedient approaches but ultimately choosing the right path because he didn't want to let zak down

- zak's gradual mental corrosion once he learns he is kur, seeing him lose his self-confidence and take huge risk by making a secret pact with argost, seeing him try to do everything by himself so he won't get others into trouble while the whole world seems to drill into his mind that he is danger until he arrives to the conclusion that the only way he can put a stop to the violence his existence causes is to stop existing

so zak’s ability to control cryptids is a psychic ability even if that is never said out loud (presumably it is telepathy) and it makes me wonder if he has other psychic abilites that were never acknowledged because of the mess that came with the big reveal that zak is kur

in season 1 finale zak could float/fly which could be simple levitation if he could only move himself but it also could be telekinesis

in season 2 he could hold back and blow away two Kalabus with enough force to dent cars

and like. just how powerful and versatile his abilities could be that perhaps not even argost knows about bc it’s an ability that evolved from zak’s human brain

Zak powers up each time he visits a mystical hot spot because he absorbs Kur's stored essence there. When the Legion of Garuda drove out Kur's spirit, it divided into pieces and lingered in an object. Ragi Nagi confirms this, claiming that both the Kur Stone and the artifact she used to detect Kur contained his "essence".

This could also apply to the Nāga's Kur detecting relic, in episode 26, when it came near Zak, his eyes glowed in response but in the second season, it no longer did. Even that large beast that was believed to be Kur in Antarctica. Each time Zak came into contact with these places and items the consciousness of Kur grew stronger in him, making his power act up and even sabotage him.

Zak equated Kur's Tomb with Ellef Ringness, as "mystic hotspots". Kur's Tomb was seemingly empty but it could be that it didn't conceal Kur's corpse, but is a place where Kur's power was sealed off. And once Zak, who became the vessel for the part of the soul that the Kur Stone held, contacted the place, he absorbed the energy that lingered there and apparently even the will that clung to it.

Theory on how Zak's power works

In the brain any sort of activity and information is basically electric signals. Zak is capable of connecting his brain with cryptids and then suggest his will that cryptids might confuse as their own will unless it clashes with another instinct. And perhaps the reason why Kur cannot control humans is because humans are capable of overcoming instinct.

i always found it weird that cryptids could understand human language but it could be that they only do bc zak connected to their brain once and even without the activation a certain connection remains that help them understand

what happens to the old epsilons once the generation's "francis" becomes the epsilon, do they get to live in a retirement or do they get terminated? how long does one generation of "epsilon" last?

these days i'm wondering if francis really hates zak

like sure, he is irritated but it seems it comes from jealousy more than actual genuine dislike

in his eyes zak has the perfect life with loving parents who let him mostly do as he pleases and don't enforce him to live a lie. if only he was born as a normal human into a family like that. zak has it easy. he can afford to be naive and childlike, unlike him who is expected to follow orders and not trust or care for anyone just the orders, he can be who he wants to be

but when zak turns out to be kur there is a begrudging sympathy for him. zak gets what it's like to be trapped in a role, carry an unwanted fate. zak gets it. but zak defies what others try to push on him and in that way he provides an example for francis that he doesn't need to follow the path others expect. zak actively encouraged him to not blindly follow authority and be honest. despite all zak sees him as a person and not just a copy, zak makes him feel emotions he doesn't know how to deal with. and this mix of jealousy, sympathy and perhaps even respect helped him find the strenght to grasp his own fate

hc: zak and wadi officially started dating when they ran into francis and wadi ofc stole francis' collar and seeing that zak automatically just blurted out 'i love you'

the scene where zak comes back to life despite having his soul ripped out strikes me so odd, his family feels so distant with him??? drew seems to be in some shocked disbelief but it's weird not to see all of them pounce to hug zak like they always did. i really wonder if something happened right before zak came to his senses, could it be that kur talked from him to his family saying something like "i lived bitch" and taunt them that they cannot be rid of him so easily this time?

i bet there was a time when the secret scientists tried to capture zak via some cortex/reflex disruptor or other electricity-based shocking device and zak just stands there unblinking as they try to knock him out. they cry "what the heck this was supposed to knock out a fully grown adult!!" and zak just laughs "how many times do you think my siblings and i played shocking each other"
