1 - Jakarta with Epularts
2 - टेडी भालु जिन्दाबाद - Teddy Bear Jindabad (Vote for the Teddy Bears)' acrylic on wall. In an age where the best words to describe our leaders are those such as bully, narcissist and ego maniac, we need a conscious shift to start looking up to those practicing virtues that actually promote harmony and positive behaviors. Feel proud to being a 'softy' - in order to reach true pleasure our heart needs to remain vulnerable and emotions need to flow. It's quite hypocritical that men are told to 'grow some balls' when they are probably to softest of organs that exist. One hit and you're out! Teddy bears are a symbol of child-like innocence, reminding us of being nurtured and cared for by others - a symbol of those care free moments before everything became so complicated. They are about feeling loved, they bring the comfort of touch which every human needs. I'm calling for a Teddy Bear Revolution! We need to stop diverting our energy to those so called powerful figures dominating public discourse and instead try to focus on warm, humble characters around us in everyday life. People don't need to become harder, in the end everyone is just looking for a soft place to fall. This piece was painted along side the beautiful @alejaramrz amazing hand lotus painting. The locals were saying the teddies were for the kids and the lotus for the adults, a juxtaposition from brain melt Teddy bears on bikes to the grounding symmetry of the hands. Anesha is the young Newari girl at the end sharing some comments about the wall. She is working in the bar with her dad where we painted, across from the Little Flowers Public School in Nagbahal as part of the @microgalleries residency with @kaalo.101.

As part of the @seashellsonthemountains festival, @kaalo.101 will present हामी (HAMI, a project by me aka @dowatfeelsgood) - a series of interactive art activities enabling us to make connections with strangers. What prevents people from having fun and how do we get rid of those barriers? How can people have conversations through arranging objects collaboratively? What meanings can certain shapes and colors mean individually and what kind of experiences are related between us? And what stories do you create about others before you actually met them? With this project the team of Kaalo.101and myself with create a place for connections between strangers. Let’s make some magic by randomly crossing paths, spilling some beans and making colourful creations. This project has been supported by @microgalleries And @countryarts_sa
The astoundingly amazing Jack Hodges / Do Wat Feels Good was selected for Micro Galleries In/Side Residency in Kathmandu, 1 – 31 October, 2019. In/Side: Being inside but aware you are outside a space, community, a culture. What does this men and what can this new perspective bring? What does being [dis]placed in Kathmandu change about you, your understanding of the world, and the art you create? The Residency Concept: To work on a project strongly related to the context of Nepal. The artist needs to research and trace specific communities, practices, problems, contexts and explore these through their practise, and consider how this can inform the creative landscape of Nepal, and then their own personal and home artistic landscape. Outcomes: The outcome can be onsite in Nepal, or later back at the artists home community. If in Nepal, it can be an exhibition, workshop, presentation, talk, anything.

Ngaltingga
2017 has been by far the biggest art year for me yet - and the Ngaltingga mural in Aldinga is by far the biggest thing I have ever painted and most significant project to date. This mural at Aldinga Town Square was a project Tobias Staheli and I were commissioned to do by the Onkaparinga Council. The traditional word for Aldinga - NGALTINGGA - was used as the centrepiece with permission from Kaurna Warra Pintyanthi - to correct past misinterpretation. The complexity of usinf the language was brought to my attention by Kaurna elder Georgina Williams. Being from Goolwa I subconsciously included a pelican, although I soon found out they belonged in the lower lakes / Goolwa region, whereas the glossy ibis was the accurate bird to represent the area. The mural was originally meant to be a simple representation of the local coastline but now due to the use of the lettering and the discussions had with Georgina the mural now accurately represents the spirit of the area and tells the truth to the children for the coming years. A shared understanding has been reached and I really appreciate the knowledge Georgina has shared with me.
INSiDE OuTside - An ordinary exhibition presented in an unordinary way
INSIDE outside is a metaphor referring to the balance of extremes - trying to find that desirable balance between excess and deficiency. It is a subjective stream of consciousness within the context of the surrounding community and contemporary life in Adelaide and the South Coast. I drive back and forth for Adelaide to Goolwa prob 2 times a week. When I’m in town I get a bit excited, wanting to do lots, party, see people - meanwhile when I’m down south I usually relax, go surfing, drink tea and hang out with family. People in country/coastal towns seem to be a lot more humble in contrast to big personalities and the fast paced lifestyles of the city. I try to get the best of both worlds while not getting caught up in small town gossip or expectations/erratic pace of being in the city. The drive is somewhat meditative for me - it offers time to zone out and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
INSIDE outside is a documentation of my movements during Sept/Oct 2017. It shows who is close to me and gives a little insight into their homes. INSIDE outside was a spare of the moment idea to get some art out there before taking off to Indonesia for a year. Illustrations of interiors with felt-tip markers where digitised and projected on to an outside public space. The location remained disclosed until a few days out.
INSIDE outside was about being accessible for me and the public. Due to the renegade nature of the show there has been no need for writing applications or gaining access. The show has been totally self-funded. Dumpster dive catering was provided to allow for minimum waste.
The show was presented for people who not aware or never given the opportunity to view art - as much as I enjoy art galleries, they are very exclusive, work is only affordable to the rich, they preach to the already converted and it involves being ‘in the scene’.
Thanks everyone who made it. Now time to take INSIDE outside to the streets of Jakarta!
Thank you Patrick Murphy for the photos!

Schools with a surfing community have an obsession with drawing waves and barrels all over their school books. To this day, my life still revolves around the waves, whether it be with surfing or art representing the symbolism waves carry in regard to change, diversity and abstraction.
