“Definitely disappointed,” Luke stated as she nodded a bit before glancing back at the guy, who somehow seemed to have continued speaking even though it was obvious no one was paying attention. Turning back to the man in line with her, Luke asked, “If you go left, and I go right, you reckon we’d be successful in at least one of us making it to the counter?”

Looking around the shop, like he was scoping it for a super important mission, Jackson tried to see what would benefit the both of them and get them out of the situation they had been caught, in the quickest. “I’d say out best bet is stick together and just...” he paused for more dramatic effect, “step around him, he seems a bit absorbed in his rant to notice anything.”

The sheriff only responded to the assumption with a smile. He wasn’t wrong, but he was also probably unaware that it was the only place in town - so the best by default. “Excellent! They’re usually very good about leaving at least one mechanic around even during lunch time, so there should be someone there,” Miller said. She mentally stopped short at he gave her his name, and suddenly the reason for the familiarity fell into place. The woman made sure not to let the sudden realization hit show on her face. “Avesta,” she replied instead, offering her hand, “Sheriff Miller Avesta.”

Jackson was content enough about taking his car to a place recommended by someone who knew they way around the town. Not that he wasn’t worried about them somehow managing to mess up his car even more. But he would never tell her. “Oh that’s good.” he nodded “There’s usually a lot of people at the mechanic where I take my car. So I think getting assisted immediately might be a first for me.” Jackson chuckled. The hunter was trying to gauge her reaction to his name, maybe she knew his sister? It didn’t show on her face at all if she did. “Nice to meet you Sheriff.” he said, a light smile on his lips. He wanted to know more, in hopes of finding some useful information from her. “Have you always lived here?”

Miller couldn’t help but but laugh at his attempt to backtrack. “No need to crawfish, a car is something worth being wary about when it comes to the level of care it’d be getting,” she conceded, before nodding a bit. “Well, I can’t really say the usual ‘they’re the best in town’ bit, because they’re technically the ‘only’ in town. But, from the work they’re able to do to the department’s fleet, it’s top-notch. I can walk you there, if you’d like? It’s only about a block and a half away.”

The tip of the hunters ears turned red, he knew that he shouldn’t be embarrassed, but he just couldn’t help it. His ears always seemed to reveal how he felt, even if he didn’t want them to. “I’ll take your word for it. I mean if the whole town is going to them it should be good.” He acknowledged, a small smile forming on his lips. “Yeah, sure lead the way! I’m Jackson Ng by the way, I don’t think I actually introduced myself.”

There was a reason the hunter rarely ventured far from the cemetery, and it had quite a lot to do with the sudden requirement of interacting with people. She could always just ignore the question and continue on her way -and this was the reflexive response- but she had been working on not doing that as much. Apparently it was considered ‘rude’ and her boss was not having it. Turning to face the man, she glanced at the car and said, “Car shop.”

Jackson was slightly taken aback by her response, but it didn’t bother him. He simply assumed that he had disturbed the woman and he was about to annoy her some more. “Where exactly is it?” He asked trying to look as friendly as he could, hoping it might lighten the mood and she would be willing to help him find the place. There was no way he would be able to find the car shop without some help.

“Um.. there should be a mechanic just a few blocks from here…” She pointed in a direction leading towards the shop. “I think you could call them and have it towed over if your car won’t start?” Embry frowned at the car near the man, and was in awe at the state of the car. There was smoke coming from its engine.

Jackson’s eyes followed the direction in which the girl was pointing, not that he would actually see the mechanic from where he stood, but he still did it. He nodded, a dejected sigh leaving his lips. “It looks like I’m going to have to get it towed.” He said putting his hands on his hips. “Thank you for you help. I’m Jackson by the way.”

Cassidy was just about to walk into the Bridgeport bar when she heard someone calling out to her. “Um….” was the first thing she said as she thought about it. She hadn’t been into town long, and she had passed by an autoshop before, but the name was slipping her mind for a moment before she finally got it. “Fallcrest Auto isn’t that far from here,” she finally answered once the name came to her. “You can take it there if you want.”

Jackson scratched the back of his head awkwardly looking at the woman. He had no idea where ‘Fallcrest Auto’ was, nor did he really want to take his car there. He wanted take his car somewhere good, somewhere he could make sure the service was the best. His car was the too important for him to just take anywhere. The hunter sighed, he didn’t really have a choice, it seemed like he would have to take the car there. “Uh... and where is Fallcrest Auto?” he asked dejectedly. “I’m kind of new here, I don’t really know where anywhere is...”

he let go of the other reluctantly, having missed the other he would have happily stood there and hugged him all day, but jesse knew jackson wouldn’t stand for it. the teacher straightened his tie and stood up straight, the last time jesse saw jackson he was still just a poor student trying to balance parenting, work, studying and hunting with his wife. he was proud of where he’d ended up,more so proud of himself for creating a stable-ish household for his son.

jesse’s smile brightened as jackson said he was doing fine, a small sigh of relief, it was good to know he wasn’t hiding out here cause he was in some kind of trouble. “let me see what i’ve got,” he mumbled while moving over to unlock his desk drawer and looking in at all the tea he had stored, “well uh… too many to name. but my favourite is white tea with peach and jasmine, hettie hates it but i could drink it all day. oh – he’s great! super smart kid. way smarter than anyone i know. xiao knows how to switch the tv over to the xbox. i can’t even do that, he’s a genius, watch him be a rocket scientist next year. and you know how i am, i’m always fine. i always find a way to be fine. what brings you to town? i’m guessing it’s not sightseeing.”

following his friend, jackson looked over his shoulder to see the impressive collection of different flavors of tea he had saved up. he simply nodded along to the flavors that were being mentioned and settled for white tea with peach, he liked white tea and peach separately, so it shouldn’t be bad together. “white tea with peach sounds good.” he responded with a nod. at the mention of hettie jackson simply smiled, deciding not to go in depth on her, but simply acknowledging it.

xiao was someone jackson would rather focus on. he really adored the kid and wanted to know how he had been doing. “that’s good to hear.” he smiled, chuckling at the fact that jesse found it impressive that he could switch the tv over to the xbox. “you’re getting old man, technology just isn’t for you” he teased. “i’m sure he’ll do great in whatever he decides to do.” jackson was unsure of the answer he got, he knew jesse, eventually they would talk about it, but now was not the time. jackson sighed dejectedly at the question, he knew he would tell him, but he hated the reason he was in the town. “can’t i just be here to visit you?” he joked, but scratched the back of his neck uncomfortably. “just... my sister is here.”

Jessica froze on the spot. There was no way that she was hearing what she thought she was hearing. After all, no one was supposed to know that she was here. That was the whole point of leaving home and moving into a different city for her newly created path at the time - a path that she knew her parents would never allow especially if they knew just who it was that she was helping. She eventually moved to a town filled with them and if her parents knew, then it was for sure the disappointment of a lifetime for them. Jessica slowly turned around as she hoped that the voice didn’t belong to her brother.

But there he was, standing there with the usual smug smile she always knew him with.

“Jackson.”

She stated it like it was a fact. “What are you doing here?” Of course, it was the first thing she was going to ask. Her instinct would be to suspect him even though she loved him as her brother. But considering her family background, it was just safer to be wary of the other.

He still wasn’t sure what he was supposed to do. He had no game plan. Was he supposed to just ask her to go back? Earn her trust and convince her? Betray her after he got it done? He would just have to wing it and deal with the consequences that came with it. Jackson wasn’t prepared. Even though he was given clear instructions the youngest Ng didn’t know how he was going to accomplish it. If he failed to do so, he knew their older brother would show up. He would get so much shit for not being able to handle this mission or whatever this was supposed to be.

“Mm?“ he hummed questioning why she had said his name. He was looking intently at her, trying to gauge her stance. He was sure she would suspect him. He couldn’t blame her though. Had they he been in the same position as her, he would’ve bolted the moment he saw her.

“I’m laying low, last hunt didn’t really go as planned...” he muttered, it was partially true, he still had some wounds that hadn’t completely healed. “And I have a friend who lives here. So I thought this place would be cool to hangout at. Clearly it's been working for you”

Miller was accustomed to having folks randomly stop her around town -whether she was in uniform or not- so when she heard a man call out, she turned to see what the matter was. There was something vaguely familiar about him, but she wasn’t quite sure what it was as she was certain she hadn’t actually seen him around before…”Uh, yeah actually. Fallcrest Automotive, they’ll be able to come check it out and give it a tow back to the garage if necessary.”

The whole point of driving his malfunctioning car -that honestly could blow up on him at any point- all the way to New York was to avoid the local mechanic. His car was precious to him and that meant he only trusted the people he knew to work on his car. “Are they goo-” It was better to not finish his sentence. He knew that it would just make a bad impression on the woman and of he really wanted to fit in seamlessly he should just try to get along with everyone. “Sorry, forget that. Where is it? Is it close?” he asked. “I’m kind of new in town, I still barely can make it back home without getting lost.”

“Right?!” Luke exclaimed as if someone was finally seeing the same shape in the inkblots. There was little mind paid on her behalf to the overgrown manchild now petulantly gaping at her. “Well excuse a guy for trying to educate you on something so you don’t sound stupid later,” he spat out. Not bothering to face the guy, she instead continued to speak with her fellow miffed shopper. “You ever feel like there’s no way a person could be so stupid as try their luck in such blatant ways, and then someone else just comes around to prove you wrong?”

Jackson simply scoffed at the man who seemed convinced that whatever he was talking about was actually useful information. He really wanted to roll his eyes but he was sure the childish comic book fan would throw an even bigger fit than he already was doing. The hunter chose to ignore whatever nonsense the guy seemed to say and solely focused on the girl in front of him. “All the time.” Jackson responded dejectedly, as if he already had given up on finding a at least one decent and logical person. “I don’t know if i should be amazed every time they do or just... disappointed.”

jesse had spent all day in his classroom by himself, the loneliness was starting to get to him, why hadn’t he heard from anyone all day? it was odd sure but he was sure everyone was just busy doing their own thing, which he understood. knowing he was going to be seeing jackson soon he wasn’t too hung up about having a quiet day, if anything he was just excited to see his old friend once again.

as the door opened jesse looked up from his desk with a bright and sleepy smile. “dude! get in here, it’s been at least fifty years since we saw each other.” the man stood up walked over to greet the other with a handshake before reminding himself who jackson was and wrapped him in a tight hug. “tell me how you’ve been! do you want some tea? i have so much tea.”

jackson laughed wholeheartedly as he got wrapped up in a hug. he wasn’t quite expecting it, but he reminded himself that this was jesse, of course he would get a hug. he clapped his friend on the back, as if he was reassuring himself that jesse was really there. “it’s been way to long.” he replied, after he let him go. jackson quickly gave him a once over, crossing his arms and smiling contently. he always did this, to check on his friends, to make sure they were okay and not injured. it just had become a habit and from what he could tell, jesse seemed fine. at least physically.

“i’ve been fine, going here and there. as usual.” he responded without much enthusiasm. he was just more curious about jesse and would rather talk about what’s been going on with him instead of explaining the mess he was currently in. “tea sounds good. what do you have?” he asked, “how have you been doing? how’s your kid?”

It was a bad idea. Jackson knew it was a bad idea. Anyone around him could tell it was a bad idea. But for some stupid reason he thought he could make it to New York in a faulty car to get it fixed. He hadn’t even made it out of the parking lot before the car sputtered pathetically to it’s death. The hunter cursed under his breath and got out of the car and looked around for someone who could help. “Hey, excuse me!” he called out to the first person he saw. “Do you know somewhere I could get this thing fixed?”

It wasn’t a usual day for Jackson. He had decided to skip on the whole “patrolling” and just general spying on his sister for the day. Partly because he was getting tired of just hanging out at the hospital, but mostly because he was going to meet Jesse. The guys had been friends for a while, long enough for Jackson to actually trust him enough to tell him about his family business and things he wouldn’t normally want to reveal at all. Of course he would never admit it to himself or anyone for that matter, but Jesse made him feel at ease and that wasn’t an easy feat.

He knew Jesse had moved to Fallcrest, so while he was in the town anyway he decided to visit the other hunter to see what he was up to. He wasn’t sure what they could do in this small town, but he knew they’d find something that would be at least somewhat interesting. Knocking on the classroom door and opening slowly Jackson smiled smugly and poked half of his body in. “Hey, haven’t seen you in awhile.”

Blue eyes narrowed as the guy just seemed to keep talking. By the clock on the wall behind the checkout counter, it had been a full three minutes since she’d made the mistake of pointing out the dude’s Deadpool shirt, and apparently set him off on a lecture. Turning to the person in line behind her, she just said, “I’m sorry. I honestly had no idea pointing out the reference of the shirt would activate gatekeeper mode…”

A sigh left his lips. Jackson was annoyed, really annoyed at that. He was completely drained from yesterdays activities and all he wanted was to buy his things and leave. But for some reason the guy seemed to think it was acceptable to just hold up the line because of a stupid comic book hero that didn’t even exist. Plastering a smile on his face he turned to the culprit who started the whole superhero spiel in the first place. “It’s fine. I’m kind of amazed that this dude can’t take a hint to stop talking.”

Today was hectic; more surgeries in one day than she would have liked. Jessica didn’t like to rush but unfortunately, two of her patients’ condition had worsen earlier than she calculated so she had to move her schedule around. Thankfully, she still managed them in time - not that she had a ‘closing’ hour in the first place but Jessica would rather pace herself and do a steady job.

Feeling a crick in her neck, she stopped in the middle of the hallway of the hospital and rested a hand against the wall as she gave her neck a roll in hopes of loosening it. “I need another cup of coffee..” She muttered to herself even though she really shouldn’t have another one. However, she wasn’t going to be home anytime soon because of the paperwork left on her desk that she ignored due to the surgeries.

Jackson had been in Fallcrest for less than a month, he still had some trouble getting around, mostly because he was more used to living in big cities and also because for some reason his car has been acting up ever since he got here and he doesn’t trust the local mechanic to fix his baby. He wouldn’t let anyone incapable near his car. Jackson would rather drive all the way to New York to get it repaired.

The only reason he was stuck in this town was because of his sister. Honestly Jackson wasn’t completely sure what the point of the whole mission was. All he knew he had to keep an eye on Jessica and report whatever she was doing back to their family. So that’s what he’s been doing. From what he could tell, she spent most if not all her time at the hospital. At least she seemed content with her life. And he was there to fuck it all up. So with a smug smile he walked right towards her, he’d been waiting for her to show up so he could surprise her for a at least an hour. “Well you’re in luck, I was just about to go grab some coffee,” he smiled waiting for her to turn around and see him.
