Makes no sense to me. What am I going to do with myself here that’s going to make any difference? It’s not very nice, you know. Giving a lifer false hope just to give yourself a student. I work already, whatever they assign me to. That’s my life. How is this your last resort anyway? There’s a whole world of opportunities for you.

I should probably have some grand for you, meant to inspire, but I honestly think you're right. If you already think nothing would make a difference then that's how it would be. I wasn't trying to give you false hope though, I was just trying to give you something to do that wasn't as strenuous as whatever activity they assign you. Some people actually enjoy learning... Honestly? It's hard to find work, especially in any kind of respectable school, with a felony on your record.

I'm starting to think no one does so this job is my own sentence... I'd teach college courses but that wouldn't work out legally or academically, not like they actually care. Hell, I have a feeling if anyone does sign up they still won't show up. You know... that might be true but that shouldn't be your deciding factor when it comes to what you're going to do. Sure, you're not getting out but just because this is your life it doesn't mean you, uh... shouldn't still try and live it. Or whatever....

Uh... Honestly, I pretty much teach anything. From math and science to religion and english. I pull the inmates records and assign them whatever classes their missing to get their GED. Right now though? I'm pretty much every high-school teacher... I just don't have the extra help.

Julian let out a small chuckle, taking three quick strides to the door to pull it open and wait for the other. “And I’d appreciate it if you paid attention this time as well, Mr Masters. As much as I love friendly chats with all the staff, I’m sure getting lost would get in the way of your schedule.”

Moving quickly, Jacobi followed Julian to the door. Lingering awkwardly for a moment he stepped out into the hall. His eyes never leaving the other. "Oh, I promise I'll pay attention. I can't stand getting lost, especially if it happens often. Not only my schedule would be affect either. I'm sure it'd get tiring, and time consuming, if I showed up at your office on a daily basis... since that's the only place I can apparently find."

Cute? [he raised his brow] I have to say, I haven’t been called cute since my family and I were discovered to be murderers. I suppose.. I’m just sick of thinking that God hates me just because I’m being what he made me. No, mine definitely wasn’t big on that. It was mainly either sit there and agree or sit there and shut up.

Okay, when you put it that way cute might not be the right word... [he laughs nervously] Sorry, you just-- you don't look like a murder I guess. Now that you mention it, that's actually why I gave up on religion. Why would I believe and support in a God that wanted to punish me for being by his design? It just doesn't make sense to me. [he smiles warmly] Well would you look at that, our churches sound exactly the same.

Al figured that if this guy had been sent by one of the others, then he was doing a horrible job; something told him that the man was telling the truth, though. “Don’t tell me how the fuck I can act, alright? I’ll do whatever the hell I please, you should know.” Al rolled his eyes and then nodded, “Oh yeah, Jacobi Masters. I know you.” Al knew he was just messing around with the guy—partially. He nodded and sat on the floor while he fiddled with some nails and a piece of wood. “Make yourself useful and pass me that hammer, yeah?” Al asked him.

"I wasn't trying to tell you how to act, sorry. I think it's pretty obvious you do whatever you want... I mean, look at where you are." As soon as he had said it he instantly regretted his big mouth. "Wait, no, okay that doesn't help at all. That was extremely uncalled for, sorry. Really, I'm sorry." Jacobi suddenly found himself very nervous. This inmate knew him. In the teachers mind they'd never met before and he had just recently been hired. How did this man already know about him. Maybe there were rumors running around the inmates about why he was here. If they knew about the fire... he'd lose his mind. "You... You know me?" He questioned as he blindly followed the other's instructions, not even stopping to think as he passed him the hammer. "How?"

There's still no one taking any classes? If this keeps up I might be out of a job soon... and this was my last shot.

To say that he was irritated was an understatement. He kept his hands busy with cleaning and repairs because he didn’t want to think. And now the very person he had warned against asking for anything was asking for clarification. He wasn’t a prisoner, if the lack of uniform was any indication. But he wasn’t a guard, either. There were very few people Vincent didn’t recognize in the prison. This was one of them. “And who the hell are you?”

There was an obvious, palpable tension between them but Jacobi was completely oblivious to how easily he managed to aggravate the inmate. In truth, the man could have been yelling at him and threatening his life and it still wouldn't register with him that someone was unhappy. "Me? Oh, right, I probably should introduce myself. Name's Jacobi Masters, most people just call me Jacobi or Jack though... I'm the new teacher around here. You are?"

Yeah, he's definitely patient. It will be, I'm just spreading the word to those I think will be interested though, I haven't started the guidance in my faith with him just yet. I'm not ready to change right now, though I can feel that I soon will be. [he chuckles lightly] I just say there and kept my mouth shut. They would have kicked me out of the church otherwise.

That's good to know. Don't take this the wrong way, but I think you'll do a better job then most people who try to spread the "good word" but that's mostly because all those people that used to come to my doors to ask me about my faith were either missing teeth or covered in grease. None of them were cute. You might not be ready yet but you're still a whole level ahead of me just knowing you're looking at changing. [he returns the laugh] I think I know how you feel. My church wasn't really big on anyone having an opinion of our own.
