Betty couldn’t help it when her smile stretched a little further as Bruce sat down next to her. She grabbed the glass of water and took a sip as he started talking. Wow, anything interesting. “Oh, um…hm,” she said as she thought back to the last time they saw each other. Three years was a pretty long time, now that she really thought about it. “Well, I…I finished my undergrad studies!” she started with the most obvious one. “And now I’m here, and, well…let’s see what else happened…” She couldn’t help the cliche’d move of scratching her head a bit as the thought, as if that would make her memories fall from her scalp to her brain.

"Wow, you don’t realize how long three years can be until you sit down to think about it, huh?" She didn’t know if she should tell him about Glenn. It was stupid thinking she shouldn’t right? And yet, she felt a tiny lump in her throat as she started. "I, uh…I met this guy, Glenn-Well, no, I didn’t meet him, I already knew him, but we…we started dating a while after the accident. He was one of my dad’s men, it was…Well, we broke up almost a year ago. Around the time The General and I cut communication." She ended with a flat smile, nodding slightly. "And yeah, that’s pretty much been the past three years of my life. Fun," she said sarcastically. "So what about you, what have you been up to?"

Bruce smiled “Congratulations, by the way, on completing your undergrad studies.” He raised his own glass in a cheer and drank to her success- however he almost spat it back out when he heard she had dated one of the General’s men. He maintained his dignity with a hard swallow. Why should he care? She was allowed to date whomever she wanted, military or not. Still, he felt his stomach knot up, twist, and drop. “Oh, thats a shame.” He lied about the break up. “At least you have good memories right?” He had no idea what he was doing. Relationships were a foreign and dangerous territory.

He felt the blood rush out of his face and arms as soon as Betty asked what he had been up to. He couldn’t make eye contact. “Just traveling the world.” He laughed nervously attempting to joke as he put his glass down and grabbed the remote. “Really, I just got back maybe a few weeks before I got into Sky High. So I haven’t been up to much.” He tried to avoid the topic of the last three years by substituting the three or so weeks in America before coming to Sky High. Bruce turned on the tv before handing the remote to Betty. “Why don’t you pick something for us to watch?” He pulled a blanket up over his crossed legs suddenly feeling uncomfortable.

Who’s Bruce? And besides, if Bruce wore girl pants, there’d be nothing wrong with it.

…But seriously, who’s Bruce?

Um, Hi, I'm Bruce. Nice to meet you. 

And I've only worn girls pants when there was nothing else available. Not that theres anything wrong with wearing women's clothing. I don't judge.

And then the door swung open.  ”Hi,” Betty breathed out, sounding like she had jun run a marathon. She felt so many different things happening, when in reality, she was just visiting a friend. “Oh, um, great!” she said as she stepped inside. “I brought cookies!” She lifted the plate of cookies slightly, so Bruce could see the little atom-shaped cookies in all their glory. “I made them earlier today,” she explained, a little ashamed of the shape she had decided to bake them in. She could be such a nerd sometimes. “They’re sugar cookies!” But at the same time, she hoped Bruce would appreciate them, since he was also a scientist.

"Sure, a glass of water would be great," she said with a smile before placing the cookies on the table, next to the popcorn. She looked around, unsure as to how to proceed. It had been three whole years since they had last seen each other, and Betty had missed Bruce terribly. But Betty thought she’d never see him again, she never expected to find herself in his dorm, ready to catch up on the last three years. So she moved to the couch nest, and sat down. Looking around, Betty still didn’t know what to expect. She didn’t know what would happen that night. Sure, they were just two friends catching up, but anything could happen. With the life that she lead, surprises were second nature to her. But she was open to any possibility.

Bruce closed the door behind Betty. He couldn’t stop smiling at her when she presented the cookies. She sounded out of breath and she brought cookies in the shape of atoms. It was adorable, she was adorable. “Those look delicious.” Bruce laughed appreciating the irony of atom cookies made of up of atoms themselves. He went and got Betty and himself glasses of water before joining her on the couch nest sitting crosslegged and handing her her water.

Bruce grabbed a delicious looking atom cookie and asked “So, anything interesting happen in the last three years?” before biting into it. He realized a moment after that ‘interesting’ could mean anything, but the first question that popped up in his head was ‘boyfriend or husband?’ Which was ridiculous, they were just friends. Three years was a long time, anything that he felt for her before the accident was just a fond memory now, or should be, too much had changed to make any sort of relationship work between them. He pushed the chatter in his mind back and gave Betty his full attention.

Daddy issues?

From the things I've been reading I think a lot of people here have daddy issues.

I’m from a dead universe similar to this one. I escaped the cataclysmic event that destroyed it and crash landed on earth. My alien species is known as The Kree.

Yes. A miniature fusion energy reactor. I achieved a stable fusion for about 2 minutes before it ate itself and blew up. I would love to come chat about science with you! It really is a rather spectacular field.

Wow, thats... wow, I've never met an alien before- if that term is offensive I apologize. And I'm sorry for the loss of your universe.  That got awkward fast sorry.

I imagine that if we put our heads together we could figure out this reactor problem of yours. I even have a makeshift lab in my room, we should get together and experiment. I'm free most nights but some nights I tutor.

To say that Betty was excited about seeing Bruce again was an understatement. She was excited, happy, nervous, uncertain. Everything at once. Three years ago, after the accident, she didn’t think she would see Bruce again. And yet, here they were. Getting their PhD’s from the same school, about to get together for a very mature evening involving a couch nest, popcorn, and homemade cookies. She felt like a schoolgirl, the butterflies in her stomach were going crazy. She felt a little embarrassed to admit that she had been harboring a crush for three whole years, but it was true. Betty was a mature, twenty-year-old woman, but whenever Bruce was involved…she was back to being fifteen.

She managed to compose herself, standing in front of his door with a plate of freshly baked cookies. She was so excited about seeing him, she could just burst through the door and attack hug him…but she figured that probably wasn’t the best idea. So she knocked, and she waited, her heart beating faster than a hummingbird beat its wings.

It had been three years since the gamma accident, the last time Bruce thought he’d ever see anyone from his old life again, especially Betty seeing as he had been on the run from her father. He had chosen the school to escape Betty’s father, finding her here at Sky High was the last thing he had expected. In hindsight he really should have expected it, she was the most intelligent woman he had ever met. Many nights in foreign countries his mind would wander to her. The things he had seen, things she would loved to have seen like a double leveled root bridge built in India, the Church of the Resurrection in Russia, and the Plitvice Lakes in Croatia. He’d often fall asleep imagining telling her of the places he’d been.

But here he was three years later in a dorm he had freshly cleaned with a couch nest made and popcorn waiting on the end table. He looked around the room and just then everything hit him, he was nervous, excited, and afraid. What if too much had changed? What if it was awkward? No, of course it was going to awkward, her father was chasing him around the globe because he’d turn into a giant green rage monster at the slightest aggravation.

A knock drew him from his thoughts. He quickly covered his makeshift lab, which was set up near the fireplace, with a bedsheet before answering the door. He couldn’t hide his smile upon opening the door, just seeing her brought a strange warmth to his chest. “Hey.” Was the only word he could manage before remembering his manners and stepping aside. “Come in, I’ve got the popcorn ready, would you like something to drink?”

I don’t mind at all! Seeing as I like contributing to the science here on earth, I figured I’d work on a small fusion energy reactor. Thankfully it only exploded and destroyed the device.

I was lucky it didn’t destroy the entire dorm. And yes, I am quite alright, thank you!

Why is the Hulk green?

There really isn't any reason. It's not gamma radiation because that lies beyond the visual spectrum of human eyes. You'll have to ask him yourself I guess.

what's your favorite holiday?

Well I like to observe Christmas/Holiday season from afar. Seeing people in the holiday spirit is great, everyone is more charitable and kind to each other. So I guess I like the winter holidays even though I don't celebrate them myself.
