Sometimes you just got to have faith.
Did you know that when leather is particularly soft it probably comes from calves that are taken away from their mothers (dairy cows) shortly after birth or before they are even born? Slink skins or slunk skins are the skin of unborn calves. This kind of leather often comes from the dairy industry. Dairy cows are periodically impregnated for milk production. At the end of their production cycle (which is not more than two years) they are killed. This kind of leather is considered a luxury item. Don’t you think that the real luxury would be for these babies to grow up with their mothers and live their life? By drinking plant-based milk and wearing faux leather you’re helping a great deal. Thank you for doing so!
Australian business executive Anne Hurley founded James&Co in 2011, inspired by the all too brief life of her son James. James was a unique individual who cared unassumingly about others and whose natural inclination was to show humanity – and of course, like most 24-year-olds, James liked to dress with style. In his talented writing, James exhorted us to ‘Live Life & Love It’ – he inspires us now to uphold that legacy. That’s why we are strong supporters of a number of mental health awareness organisations, such as beyondblue, Lifeline and batyr.
Have you ever wished on a dandelion? It turns out you can do a lot of thing with these pretty flowers. Dandelions are rich in nutrients, minerals, and vitamins. They can help with several conditions such as liver disorders, acne, any skin disease, high blood pressure. They help with weight loss, they lower blood sugar levels, they prevent urinary tract infections and they strengthen bones. Nature never fails to amaze us.
She’s tough. She’s confident. She’s stylish. But most importantly, she’s kind and compassionate. What would the world look like if we all made compassionate choices? What if you could keep wearing clothes you love without sacrificing your style but without harming anyone at the same time? Don’t you think that anyone would choose to not harm a sentient being if they could? We believe that people are good at heart. They just need to be shown it is possible to make compassionate choices in every area of their life without sacrificing their lifestyle. Are you with us? Will you help us spread the message?
James&Co was founded on the belief that women shouldn’t have to sacrifice their looks or style in order to live ethically and compassionately. By using high-quality cruelty-free fabrics, including 100% polyurethane vegan leather, our jackets look and feel like the real thing, without any of the hidden issues associated with leather production. We are Peta-approved Vegan and member of the Ethical Fashion Forum. In addition, we have a strong relationship with our manufacturers, ensuring that workers are treated fairly and quality remains high. Our manufacturers are engaged under a Supplier Code of Conduct.
Livestock is the world’s largest user of land resources, with pasture and land dedicated to the production of feed representing almost 80% of the total agricultural land. The sector uses 3.4 billion hectares for grazing and one-third of global arable land to grow feed crops, accounting for more than 40% of world cereal production. 26% of the Earth’s ice-free terrestrial surface is used for grazing. According to calculations of the United Nations Environment Programme, the calories that are lost by feeding cereals to animals, instead of using them directly as human food, could theoretically feed an extra 3.5 billion people. (World Livestock 2013 – FAO)
What choice can you make today to bring you closer to happiness? Choose to take a deep breath. Choose to take a short walk in the sun. Choose to smile when you meet a stranger. Choose to rest if you’re burned out. Choose joy!
Did you know that cattle is not the most used animal for its skin? It’s actually sheep and goats that die in larger quantities. Goatskin is softer, therefore more apt for items like gloves, shoes, and jackets. Let’s not forget our horned friends, every animal deserves to not become a frill on our outfit.
Stand tall in your ethical and cruelty-free choices. How do are making this world a better place today? We are spreading the animal rights message by wearing a vegan leather jacket that turns heads. And everytime someone asks “What a gorgeous leather jacket, where did you get it?” we can proudly tell them “It’s not real leather, it’s cruelty-free!” Wearing: @jamesandcoau Sonia vegan leather moto jacket. Let’s talk about “ethical hunting”. Do you think that hunting for your food is more ethical and acceptable from a vegan perspective? We think that in 2017 there’s no need to go out and kill animals to feed ourselves. It’s not like we’re getting stranded on a desert island on a daily basis. What say you?
What animals have chosen you as a companion in this lifetime? (We like to think that you don’t “own” animals. They have chosen to live with you as much as you have chosen to take care of them).
If bees died out, we would not survive. Bees keep plants and crops alive: one third of our global food supply is pollinated by bees. Honeybees have been dying at an alarming rate over the last few years mainly because of pesticides. But bees are also exploited for the food industry. Honey is a controversial topic in the vegan world. Do you consume honey or do you stay away from it as a vegan?
