ACTUAL LONG-SUFFERING SINGLE DAD CHRISTOPHER PIKE
with your steel heart
Name: Ptolema (p is silent), abbreviated sometimes to “Tol”
Face Claim: Morena Baccarin
Age: In some ways, she’s in her 30s, but in a more literal way she was made two years ago.
Height: 5″6
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Species: Android
Powers: Tol is built a little stronger than your average organic being, meaning she’s durable and has surprising speed and strength. She can interface directly with most computers and can process large amounts of data quickly, making her a great tactician in a crisis. She comes pre-loaded with huge amounts of information on supernaturals and a few basic suites of survival and deception skills, allowing her to blend into human society. She can discharge electricity directly if needs be and regenerate the cosmetic human-imitation covering if it gets damaged.
Weaknesses: Magnets. She can be remotely hacked, if you know how, and is obviously not impervious to damage. She also isn’t extraordinarily experienced with the outside world- she knows the theory but the practise is a bit more overwhelming. Also her battery can run down FAST if she tries to do too many tasks at once. She needs charging at about the rate a human needs sleep. Also, for real, large electromagnets can frick her right up- she’s mostly non-metallic, but there are a few crucial elements that can be damaged by interference.
Personality: (caveat here) Kinda need to go into the origin story here, but the tl;dr version is that she’s an android built by Hyde and was accidentally given sentience, so her main MO at the moment is pretending to all the handlers that that hasn’t happened, to avoid being shut down permanently or reset or whatever. Consequently her personality at the moment is like [mechanised screaming], but aside from that- She’s feisty and curious, and plays it very close to her chest. When she’s not being overly defensive due to fear of being recycled into a glorified paperweight, she becomes incredibly curious and philosophical- not surprisingly, she has a lot of thoughts about the nature of conciousness.
Birthday: She was first completed and brought online in April 2013, but she considers the first day she was “alive” to be the 11th February, 2016 (making her an Aquarius).
Role/Occupation: Robot butler Hyde’s assistant- Hyde uses her to carry out missions that require forays into San Fransisco that need something more durable than your average handler to deal with.
Registered: She’s a staff member, but she’s tagged in case anything happens to her- Hyde wants to protect her investments.
Origin Story: As mentioned above- during some experimental updates, Tol accidentally received the ultimate update, from a sophisticated but ultimately soulless machine to a thinking, concious being. Happily for her, she was able to pretend to have not suddenly become alive- she’s fairly sure that Hyde would shut her down or reboot her brain if that happened, and she doesn’t want to die, thank you very much. So at the moment she’s doing her very best impression of a well behaved robot and waiting for a chance to get the hell out. Luckily, Hyde specifically made her to send out into the streets, so she’s just waiting for a chance to sneak off whilst on a mission and vanish.
Name: Liza
Face Claim: Stephanie Beatriz
Age: physically, mid 20s, actually about 50 or so
Height: 5″7′
Hair: Black
Eyes: Black
Species: Vampire
Powers: Longevity, enhanced speed and strength, as well as stronger senses,
Weaknesses: Silver, holy artefacts, sunlight, etc. Normal vampire stuff. Can’t cope w/o blood.
Personality: Outwardly she’s acrid and snarky. She wasn’t always this way, a while ago she was a pretty lost and scared kid who was extremely sensitive and caring, but over time she’s gotten more and more disillusioned and crabby. As much as she insists she doesn’t care, she still does, which of course makes her even more irate currently. She’s choosy of her friends, but she’s endlessly loyal to those she trusts- something that she doesn’t do easily.
Birthday: 27/3, Aries
Role/Occupation: Barrista
Registered: She’s registered, still, out of not wanting to make Angela’s life any more difficult, but her feelings towards the handlers on a whole have changed over the past 30 years
Origin Story: Will go into later, but she’s been registered with the handlers for about 30 yeas now, since she was turned and subsequently abandoned by her sire. She found the handlers an immense help in the beginning, but seeing the way their ideals are going is giving her severe doubts, not to mention headaches.

[one way or another plays muffled in the background]
every long lost dream, every failed endeavour {tag Walter
Sprawled in the shadows, looking for all intents and purposes like another piece of refuse society cast aside, Walter wallowed–nay, marinated–in his self-pity and what he viewed to be some variety of self-preservation. Or preservation for others. Walter had no intention of moving, no intention of contacting anyone. He allowed himself to slip into the nothingness of people who fell between the cracks. Homeless, hopeless, and relatively helpless, Walter Drake succumbed to the realization that this was to be his life now. He accepted that. Just as he accepted that rain would apparently be his shower, rats and pigeons and other vermin his main source of sustenance, and shadows his only companions.
That is, until James showed up to spoil one overly-righteous undead sulk.
Reddish teeth bared themselves in a smile that was more grimace than actual friendly greeting. Ragged clothes shifted, half-hanging, half-draping over a frame that threatened, seemingly, to fall apart at any given moment. He was a skeleton wrapped in skin and golden hair, all of which bore a thin film like a red coat of paint that was slowly flaking away, taking pieces of him with it as it went. He hadn’t sent for James, he hadn’t asked for his help. In fact, Walter seemed determined to believe he didn’t need anybody’s help whatsoever. He just needed to figure out a way to survive until he could find a way to die, and that was all. He’d been rescued one too many times, given one too many chances.
He wasn’t about to let James waste another one on him.
“Is that any way to talk to a fine, upstanding member of society?” Walter wiped at the edge of his lips, trying to pick away dried blood with a few scrapes of dull, dirty nails. His tone was anything but mirthful, however–just tired, exasperated. The sound of a man who had utterly and completely given up. The scarecrow in the borrowed red coat sighed tiredly and shrank back into the deeper shadows of the early California evening, eyes watering from the overpowering reek of–well, himself, but also the flora of the area coming vibrantly into bloom. Everything was too sharp; too loud, too intense. He was overwhelmed by it all, and he didn’t want to try to adapt anymore. He always could, but now? Now he didn’t have the energy to bother.
“Don’t you have someone else to bother?” asked Walter wearily, closing his eyes and barring himself against the side of the underpass with a sag of skinny bones. “Someone who might actually listen to you, for example…?”
The only relief that came from the sight of James, honestly, was that he seemed to be doing better than Walter was. He felt he owed him that much–a better life. A freer, healthier life.
One devoid of him, preferably, to fuck things up again.
Walter’s bark seemed to totally lack any bite- there seemed to be barely any energy in him to muster up even a little sarcasm. Like a based echo of pride, the frail little man brushed him off, turned away, slipping deeper into the malaise and stupor that pervaded the filthy place in which he lay. He seemed a little like a wounded solider, failing against the enemy, left to die where he’d fallen- felt himself not worth the energy and expense of saving. All his mannerisms and stiff discipline had fallen away, carried him this far and then left him in the lurch when he needed them most. And their protection made him helpless at his core, incapable of carrying on without someone to tell him what to do next, and unable to tell himself. That, at least, was understandable- anyone would struggle to motivate themselves to adjust to so huge a change. But Walter had other things to deal with- guilt, maybe, or rage. Betrayal at the hands of the people he’d worked for. Betrayal of the ideology he’d clung to for so long. James wondered if he still hated vampires, if he was wrapped up in hating himself, or if it was just that the effort of adjusting to different ways of looking at the world was beyond him.
“Son, what are you doing?” he asked eventually, his tone primarily exasperated. It was hard not to feel slightly cross- cross with Walter for making this so difficult for himself. James had to remind himself that the man’s apparent insentience on punishing himself was likely coming from an outside source- someone who’d made him feel less than, second class, broken. Hell, he’d had his own moments, feeling the responsibility of what he’d done, disgusted with himself and what he was, that he could’ve killed the young man before him without thinking. But for the most part, James was done with that. Done beating himself up when someone else had taken away all his agency and power. Nothing could make undo what he’d done, but he wasn’t the one who’d put himself in that position. In fact, the Handlers were supposed to have been the ones preventing him from being the monster they told him he was. But he would have a time convincing Walter of the same thing.
“You are going to listen to me,” he said firmly, staring the husk of a person down, “You’re better than this. Anyone is better than this. You deserve more than this, Walter, so you’d better let me help you, because I’m not leaving you here.” Not in this state, anyway.
james: [the dad from the shoes video voice] what are you gonna do with your life
every long lost dream, every failed endeavour {tag Walter
He had almost given up any hope of finding out what had happened to Walter.
James wanted to think the man had taken the sensible option and fled the city, and was safe somewhere, figuring it out. He tried not to think of other possibilities, but they still crept into his mind whenever it became absent. Tracked down by Handlers, turned himself over to them, starving and mindless, dead for good. That would set him pacing again, or sitting in with Deryn to listen to theories and strategies on how they could move forwards, a way to survive. It seemed selfish to obsess over his personal woes when the lives of every supernatural in the city were in the balance, but it was impossible to stop the worrying. As time went on, it became normal- another constant concern to add to the pile. Eventually, he began to return to who he might have been beforehand, or at least, as close as he could get.
And then one day, as he was industriously setting about destroying Fraser at chess, Deryn skidded into the room, eyes roving the amassed creatures, before spotting them and making a beeline for their corner. Hearing that he had found sign of Walter was surreal, and James had to exert a great deal of effort not to freeze. He wasn't going to choke this time.
Deryn showed him to the general area, but otherwise, he went alone. He spent several hours tucked in the shadows, muscles going stiff as he watched the foot traffic. There were a few supernaturals here- it was the easiest place to lie low, under normal circumstances, the easiest place to disappear. James worried it was where the Handlers would start to target, if indeed they hadn't already. If they were any good at their jobs- and they were- they would realise that the down and outs, the homeless, the slums of America, were their blind spot.
The thought was interrupted by the sight of a flash of filthy curls, and James jerked to attention, not realising he had half nodded off. Brief elation shot through him, for just a moment, as he realized it wasn't too late, before it was replaced with intense worry. Even from across the street, he could tell Walter was in a state. He set off in pursuit, filled with nervous anger, trying to get a grip of his frustration before he caught up to the young man. Walter's lack of self preservation made him angry- angry at himself, at his fledgling, at the people who had fed the man's impression of vampires as something intrinsically terrible. That kind of damage could take so long to undo, and as far as time went, James didn't have the luxury of a plentiful supply.
Walter was slumped under an overpass, the grinding of traffic dull overhead. He looked exhausted and underfed, and, in horrendous irony, appeared more like a corpse than a man. His gaunt face was caked with dirt and dried blood, and his hair was limp and overgrown. Everything about Walter was unchecked, from his hair to his posture, which was at odds from the straight backed, precise man he remembered. "Good God, man," James breathed, unable to stop himself from exclaiming, before back-pedalling, remembering his disastrous attempts to talk his young friend around before. He tried for something light hearted, but his genuine distress and irritation at Walter's state coloured his pronouncement with more bite than he had intended.
"You really need a bath."
Off to a flying start, he sighed mentally, and braced himself.
