A Status Update

Alright, so its been a long ass time since I’ve actually logged onto this account. The semester’s finally over for me and I’ve had some time to breathe now after scrambling to get my grades to a decent level in order to continue moving towards my career goals. I celebrated my 20th birthday. I got a new position as a Kroger Pharmacy CpHT. I helped oversee the beginning of the rush process for new members of my fraternity.

With all that said, its pretty obvious I haven’t had the time to really dive into the community and RP. And because of my issues that I’ve had and inflicted on others, perhaps that’s a good thing that I’ve left the scene for a while.

I’m not going to elaborate again on what I did wrong to people and how I’m sorry. I still am. I don’t know if people still hold what I’ve done against them. Either yes or no, I just want to focus on the present, and the present includes me trying to reintegrate myself as a better member of the RP community here on Tumblr. That’s it. I just want that chance to do it again.

On another note, I’ve used my free nights to really get into Fallout 4 and, just a day or so ago, Battlefield 1 on Xbox One. If you have a system, let me know! I’d love to play with you or share content through Live.

Welcome Home (RP with thiscruelearth)

She held his partially destroyed helmet in her hands, tracing the edges of it as she listened to her daughter laugh as she played with the dog they recently took in.

Her sweet Diana, strong little girl of her beloved Mars. Skin paler than her mother’s but not as pale as her father’s with near permeate rosy cheeks from her play in the sun. Dark hair that when the light shinned on it just right showed its beautiful tint of red, thick and long. A tall girl for her young age of five, like both her parents. A beautiful young girl who was full of life and energy and was the light of Yun’s life. The reason she didn’t just leave this place when the ranger showed up with helmet in hand.

She stood up and put the helmet back on its spot on the self before going over to her little girl, scooping her giggling form up and kissing her chubby cheeks, Diana’s smile cheering her up instantly. The small girl wrapped her arms around her mother’s neck, burying her face in her shoulder when the intercom buzzed, signalling someone was coming up to see her.

She sighed, deciding to wait till she heard the knocking at the door before she put her daughter down, not wanting to deal with whatever bullshit was waiting for her to deal with. She just wanted to relish what she had left of her family.

Mars had to grip the rails inside the elevator as his hulking form was wracked with a wheezing, dry cough. No, he was not sick. Simply stated, ever since he crossed the threshold into the Lucky 38 his breathing simply began to hitch up, his heart beating a million beats a minute. A voice inside his head told him to calm down, and another voice immediately told it to shut the hell up. He had every damn right to be nervous as hell.

Five years. Five years had he been separated from his wife and, then-unborn child. Five years since a kind stranger helped him escape servitude in a foreign land, in what seemed to be a million miles away from the Mojave. The land of myth and legend that his beloved Yun hailed from.

Lots of things can happen in five years. Bones are broken. Bones are healed. Flesh ripped by whips. Flesh healed with gauze strips. So much prayer. So much cursing. This at least he knew, and didn’t give him cause for worry. What threatened to tear him apart and send him in his wretched fetal state were things that he did not know. Too many to even list. Too many to even begin.

Luckily, as the elevator neared its destination, he was able to compose himself, even giving him a spare second or two to straighten out his plain, black duster. Nothing to denote who he was, or even what nation he was from. When the door opened, he found himself staring at... closed door a few steps from the elevator, a door that had not been there before....or had it been? The attendant in the front lobby had not been necessarily too helpful or informative about what to expect from Mistress Yun. Perhaps that’s the inevitable consequence of nearly choking the poor lad to death when he had the nerve to call him a feral upon laying eyes upon his mangled face.

Lurching forward, his heart again sped up to the point where the threat of collapsing onto the floor was a very real possibility. Yet he was so close to turning what was a surreal dream into an even more incredible reality; Mars willed himself to remain standing, although shaking, at the foot of the door. He brought a shaking fist to the surface of the large door, giving three knocks, with the little strength he could muster left.

When Yun’s hip roll signalled him that it was okay to Move, Mars did not hesitate to do so. He concentrated not on speed, but the depth and power of his thrusts, often causing the smaller woman under him to shake even in the support of his one arm firmly wrapped around her back.

His other hand moved up her body, eventually landing on one of her breasts. Gently cupping it, his fingers would occasionally bend down to flick the small bud in the center, usually with every time he pulled away to ready for another thrust, eventually causing it to stiffen.

Throughout this, he continued to grunt as he moved within her, breathless gasps for air occasionally interspersed in between them.

There’s a good reason why I support a fan fiction writer’s right to depict abuse in their fics while also criticizing shit like “Twilight” and “50 Shades of Grey.”

The thing is, not only is fan fiction for a much more niche audience, but when fic writers portray abuse in their stories then chances are they’re gonna tag it as “abuse.” A reader will see the tag and know “OK, this isn’t going to be healthy relationship behavior. Gotcha.” But popular mainstream publications like Twilight and 50 Shades have no warnings or disclaimers saying “This is not healthy relationship behavior, it’s abuse.” As a matter of fact, they’re passed off as ideal portrayals of relationships and BDSM to a much wider audience than your average whump fic could ever hope to reach.

So when it comes to fiction, it’s not hypocritical to point out problems in mainstream fare while ignoring some properly-tagged fic on Ao3 that was likely written by someone who was working through some shit with a healthy outlet. Context matters with these things.

MY KINGDOM for a website that hosts crowd-sourcing of the tagging system we’ve all evolved on AO3, but for all other kinds of fiction - books, movies, shows, whatever.

Imagine getting a title recommended to you, or coming across it in an article or whatever, and you nip on over to TagYourFiction.com and look at the accumulated, weighted tags people have given that story. WOULDN’T THAT SAVE YOU SO MUCH RE-TRAUMATIZATION? OR DISCOMFORT? OR GRIEF? OR SQUICK?

….or simply time lost on a story that wouldn’t do it for ya - because this site wouldn’t only be about warning tags - it would be about all the tags - look up stories based on your preferred tastes in every category, just like we do on Ao3.

I WOULD HOST THE DAMN SITE, JUST SOMEONE ELSE DESIGN IT CAUSE I DON’T HAVE THE SKILLS.

And with regards to the original statement of the post, yes. When fandom posts our shit, we tag it - so other people can protect themselves or seek out their preferences. Censorship misses the point of what stories are for.

Is the province of art to explore the human condition so we can all understand ourselves better, our cultures better, our history better: that’s what art is for, indeed that’s why art is necessary.

Proposing destructive or abusive subject matter as good or normal - that’s entirely different. And that’s where the fucked up cultural dialog keeps tripping and landing on its face - both in the area of ‘damage-depicting things must be censored’ and in the area of ‘i have no responsibility if people take my damage-depicting art as truth, it’s not my job to be a decent human being and protect other human beings from harm.’

Don’t censor art. Don’t censor artists. Do keep the meta-narrative of any story utterly fucking clear: if it depicts damage, it can inflict damage and it can incite damage.

Labeling it as such in your Author’s Forward or your Artist’s Notes or in your cut-tag or etc. is your responsibility as a human being; your responsibility not to recklessly toss grenades out into the world.
