I put together a few simple images so you can see how this watercolour portrait looks on your wall. I always intend my work to go to someone. It’s going to be hard letting go of this one, like it always is, but I am so excited to give it to a collector who loves it. This watercolour is an ancient spiritual memory. A hidden recollection of who we are deep down. I communicate this by ordering the wild abstraction to form a gentle symmetry. My main inspiration is that sense of being at one with nature, living here off-grid. Allowing the water to do its thing always makes for a piece full of mysterious nostalgia. That stillness and nostalgia of feeling at home within ourselves, no matter where we are. The piece brought joy while painting. I felt the light shift, and the liquid drift. It was a natural emergence of form and grace. I let the water guide the pigment, nurturing subtle luminous forms to blossom in the portrait. "Like light bouncing over water" Watercolour process for 'Energy I' #artshorts #shorts #watercolor Painting 'Energy I' was an absolute delight. The watercolour emerged without effort to make the portrait look a certain way. The process, for me, is about allowing the marks to do what they want to do. Giving the water and pigment as much free rein as I can, whilst allowing the drawing to reveal itself. There is something about the mix of relaxation and tension in this portrait. Her face holds a subtle excitement, while her smile speaks to arrival. The circular motifs echo my influences in Art Nouveau. Subtle ethereal aquarelle pigments contrast with sharp lines and pencil marks. I am so pleased with this portrait, and I can't wait to send it to someone who loves it as much as I do. I loved every stage of this painting. Each part, the sketch, the drawing, and the final watercolour, created a unique visual. I am so excited to drop this painting. I’ve been working on this watercolour style for two years now, and it hasn’t been easy. This portrait is about that sense of serenity and peace when you’re in the right place at the right time. It’s a homecoming. A final return to inner relaxation. When I left the city in 2020, I underwent a massive realignment. Everything that didn’t serve got torn away. The forest lit me up from within. It was like a light that never dims shone forth. A sense or a memory of what it is to be in nature, and how right that feels. I am elated to finally bring this painting to my collectors after a month of delays. It almost didn't happen. Everything went wrong. And after being a month behind, I'm FINALLY releasing this painting. 'Energy 1' is about the homecoming we all deserve. The coming back to that place within, where it feels right. An arrival into peace that I went through returning to the forest, where I live off-grid. That process was hard, so I guess finally dropping this original is a mirror of that journey. The painting itself was a joy, and so was recording and editing this video. The poetry came during the sketch. Those rhymes echo the sense of serenity I felt painting her. And the emotional resonance of being free again in the wilderness. But when I was about to launch, almost everything went wrong. It was misalignment, and the spirit correcting my path. A reflection of what I went through landing back in the forest.
