[TRANS] HANGYUL X TAEEUN BNT INTERVIEW
Q. Feelings of shooting a pictorial?
Hangyul: It's our first photoshoot so it left an impression on us. Even more-so, it's the first time with Taeeun. It's a good experience where I could find my hidden expressions.
Taeeun: I could find out which face is pretty & what pose is better so I liked it. I was thankful for the precious experience
Q. How did you spend your time?
Taeeun: I kept practicing to improve myself by writing songs. I'm practicing so I can make songs of various genres
Hangyul: I wanted to show a better appearance from before so I continuously kept practicing singing & dancing
Q. Hangyul how do you feel about turning 20 (kr age)
Hangyul: Taeeun & I are friends(same-age) but because he's in the beginning of the year he's still in his teens. since I'm 20 I can drink with members, friends & hyungs. I could feel I'm really 20 after experiencing that
Q. Taeeun how do you think you'd be like once you're 20?
Taeeun: Maknae Kijung and I are the only teens. Once Im 20 first thing I want to do is drink w/my parents. My parents who enjoy drinking always told me let's have a drink once I'm an adult. I would also freely be able to go to the internet cafe
Q. Since when did you dream of becoming a singer?
Hangyul: I did taekwondo since grade 2 to middle school when I had a slump. during that people around me suggested I join the ent. industry. After discussing with my parents I got to try it & told me to pursue it if it felt right fo me. After trying it was fun & suited me so I nurtured my dream. I'm thankful to my parents for their full support.
Taeeun: I was a trainee since 6th grade. I started trainee life at a young age & stayed at various places before joining IM in this company. At first like Hangyul I didn't think deeply about it & started only because I liked standing & dancing in front of others. After that I developed a big desire to become a singer & then gained desire to become an artist.
Q. Did you plan to become a band from the start or did it happen later?
Taeeun: Before IM the planned team was a band called IM66. Neither Hangyul nor I joined to be part of a band. While training I thought being able to do many things could be my weapon so I naturally got to debut as a band while preparing.
Q. Your role in the team?
Hangyul: For instruments I play the keyboard, in the team I'm the athletic. I'm good at every sport
Taeeun: Hangyul is good at everything that requires using his body. If he goes on 'Idol Sports & Athletics Competition' he'll show an outstanding performance. I'm responsible for dance in IM, & in the band I'm responsible for DJ-ing & digital instruments.
Hangyul: Taeeun is in-charge of the 'Lee Minho'
Taeeun: You can't say it like that it'll cause a problem. Thankfully on the unit I was told I resemble Lee Minho. I'm the old-young boy in IM not just my face I get told that even the way I talk & my personal values aren't like my age. I nag at the hyungs a lot.
Hangyul: I dont listen to Taeeun.
Taeeun: he really doesn't listen. I can't bear to see an unclean place but Hangyul doesn't do anything seeing that.
Q. Taeeun, you hear that you look like Lee Minho a lot
Taeeun: I did. When I was in JYP I was told I look like GOT7's Yugyeom hyung & Day6's Sungjin hyung. I heard I look like Lee Minho through 'THE UNI+' The hyungs usually told me I looked like Lee Minho then suddenly said it on TV. It's embarrassing but I sometimes think I look like him too.
Hangyul: this is why it shouldn't have been said from the start (laughs)
Q. Hangyul, is there any celebrity you look like?
Hangyul: I'm told I look like Agumon character a lot. Among celebrities I hear I look like 2PM Hwang Chansung.
Taeeun: He also looks like Pidgeot from Pokemon
Hangyul: Dinosaurs, puppy, there's a variety
Q. How did you get to join THE UNIT?
Taeeun: We had nothing to do, we thought we should start something when we heard about 'THE UNI+'. We didnt have any circumstances or a reason but from our point of view we wanted to do anything.
Hangyul: We're really thankful for THE UNI+. We gained recognition even if it was a little
Q. When was the toughest moment while doing THE UNI+?
Taeeun: the hunger. They fed us well but even while eating a lot I was still hungry, I don't know if it was hard to get adjusted to the dorm life but even while snacking I was hungry. I'm starved no matter how much I eat, it was hard.
Hangyul: Having to wake up in the morning was the toughest thing. I sleep a lot in the morning, it takes me time to wake up. The member hyungs woke me up on THE UNIT. they took our phones so I can't put an alarm which was so tough. We all woke up by intuition. When we're rushed the PDs woke us up.
Taeeun: The training wasn't hard. Not saying we didnt train properly but it's personally what I always did. tens of people with the same dreams practiced hard with fire in their eyes. I thought that kind of 'practice' was a certain
Q. What changed after going on the unit?
Hangyul: We learned a lot through the unit. While shooting we learned how to control our expressions while looking at the hyungs, since there were hyungs who've been doing this for longer than us. We learned a lot through the program.
Taeeun: same here, the unit was our start, it was the start but we started from knowing nothing to luckily getting a superboot, we trained with hyungs there but we caught on some things that we didnt know at all & worked on them together, I really liked that, I felt like I widened my view. I personally bumped into the view that was in the practice room and the dance room only until now and got to know where I lack, that's how much we improved. Whether we made it to the final or not that was more than enough for us.
Q. Friendships you made through the unit?
Hangyul: I became close to Boys' Republic Suwoong and UKISS' Jun. There's no one specific, I almost befriended all the hyungs there
Taeeun: I got question about the unit's environment. At first I honestly worried about that, let alone we're rookies & appearing on such a program for the first time. But unlike my worries I befriended all the participants, to the extent where it's difficult to pick just one. We slept together, and planning our performances together within our teams, its hard not to become close. Amongst that I became the closest to BIGSTAR's Feeldog. There's a big age difference but I usually get along with those older than me so it wasn't uncomfortable.
Q. Aside from the unit, are there any idols you're close to?
Taeeun: I'm close to the group pentagon, Twice and Jeon Somi. Since I was a JYP trainee before.
Q. What do you do in your free time?
Taeeun&Hangyul: Bowling, billiard, soccer, basket.. etc we like ball games. We also skateboard together.
Q. You seem to be good at sports
Taeeun: Hangyul is very athletic so he makes time to exercise. Not as good as Hangyul but I'm also really good at sports.
Q. shows you want to go on?
Taeeun: I really want to go on High School rapper 3, the age limit is 19 in international age. if I get a chance to go on High School Rapper I want to show everything I've done until now
Hangyul: Taeeun is talented at rapping and composing so it'll be good if he goes.
Taeeun: I've been a trainee for a long time, its not a matter of whether I'm good or not I just think that I won't improve if I stay like that. Even if it's not HSR I want to appear on a show like SMTM even if I get eliminated early on, I have to face it so my musicality improves.
Hangyul: if I get the opportunity I want to go on a show like running man, I want to run
Q. What is something you want to achieve as singers?
Hangyul: I want to do well on charts. My dream is to achieve good results & give back to my parents. My dad has been driving the same car for 20 years. If we do well I want to get him a new car & buy a house for my mom.
Taeeun: first of all our entire teams goal is to succeed. My personal goal is to feel my bank account with 100 million won from royalty fees. It is a goal that holds many meanings, it shows my desire of wanting to succeed as an artist, I would think I'm a successful artist if I make 100 million in royalty fees.
Q. your role model?
Hangyul: I do have one but its an actor not idol, its Yoo Haejin & Hwang Jungmin. I'm not talking about acting but they do many dramas & movies, watching that I think they're very hardworking at what they do, I want to learn that from them.
Taeeun: I have 3. Zico, Song Mino and G-Dragon. I want to be like them. Isn't role model someone you want to be like. I also want to be like the 3 of them. I want to be able to write lyrics, compose, rap, sing, dance & even produce videos like Zico. I might seem greedy but since I'm already born, I want to do anything I can in this field.
Q. How is the environment in your dorms?
Hangyul: its quiet but we do everything. Taeeun bought a playstation & keeps playing.
Taeeun: Seems like Hangyul doesn't know but I sold that game not too long ago, to buy equipments.
Hangyul: I didn't know you resold it. When we're not playing games we watch TV or order takeout. Or we go out to play pool or bowling.
Taeeun: We don't spend a lot of time practicing in dorms. When we go back home & if I'm not feeling sleeping I play games or watch TV.Hangyul & I have the same hobbies.
Hangyul: but our personalities clash. I go with the flow & live comfortably. If I'm a sloth Taeeun is a tiger.
Taeeun: what kind of analogy is this
Q. what are your charming points?
Hangyul: I make people feel comfortable when they see me? it differs between each person but most people find me comfortable. & when I exercise. At least when I exercise I'm not shy & is easier to approach, I think that's my charm
Taeeun: I think my old-young man image is my charm. I've been dancing since first grade so I'm confident when it comes to dancing. I find myself attractive when I'm doing music
Q. if you were to compliment each other?
Hangyul: Taeeun is good at making friendships. He's also very good at tidying so he's very helpful. I love having him in the dorms
Taeeun: I'm IM's mom. I do the chores & nagging. Hangyul is kind. He's so kind that he sometimes looks foolish I've never seen any bad character until now, he's innocent & the good thing about him is that he's untainted
Q. your ideal type?
Taeeun: I have a muse. Not too long ago an idol sunbae mentioned her. I was hurt. it's actress Kim Jiwon, she's my ideal type & muse. I watched every drama she was on. Not just her physical appearance I love her aura & entire image.
Hangyul: don't have any specific celebrity. My ideal type is someone who makes me laugh. I love a funny person. I'd like it if it's a person who would accept my easy-going self.
Q. plans for a new release?
Taeeun: it's in planning but nothing is confirmed so far
Q. plans for this year?
Taeeun: when we're practicing together or going through rough times there's something we always say, "let's win the rookie award this year". It just a remark we throw out but it gives us so much strength. We enjoy the process when we think about the outcome.
Hangyul: My goal for this year is that everyone around me, my family, members and all the company staff, don't face any trouble.
Q. final words for fans?
Hangyul: Been a while since 'the unit' ended but we didn't show you much since it was over. Please wait a little more, I promise you that we will stand in front of you with a much cooler appearance from back then.
Taeeun: we sometimes communicated through V APP but we didn't really show you much after 'the unit'. In spite of that, tank you for continuing to believe in us and waiting. I want to return the favor with awesome & good music.
