Nikon D5 shot with the Nikon 600mm F4 VR (borrowed from BorrowLenses.com) 1/4000th of a second at F4 ISO 16,000 Shot RAW, Not Cropped, Edited in Adobe Lightroom CC If anyone is wondering about why it was shot at such a high ISO the answer is this was to push the limits of the camera and see how it did. But the formula is simple if you wanted to drop your ISO. If we cut the ISO in half that would be 8,000 ISO and in order to keep the same exact exposure we would need to cut the shutter speed in half as well aka one stop to 1/2000th. If you wanted to drop your ISO one more stop, what would it be and what would the corresponding shutter speed be? Taken with the Nikon D500 and 300mm F4 PF VR 1/2000th of a sec at F4 ISO 320 Remember since this is a DX body so any lens you put on it will be multiplied by 1.5x. In this case putting a 300mm lens on the body results in the effective focal length of 450mm at the same F4. With baseball or softball the key is to having the ball somewhere in the frame. Many photographers think that because they have the ability to shoot at 10 frames per second that they can just spray and prey and they will end up with a shot similar to what I got here. A quick portrait with @mariashapster with the Nikon D500 over at the FroFactory. Nikon D500 with Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR II at 200mm. 1/160 of a second at F3.2 ISO 3200 Shot RAW not cropped. Keep in mind that I am zoomed out to 200mm on a cropped sensor which gives me the effective focal length of 300mm at 2.8. Knowing this you generally want to keep your shutter speed no less than 1/320th of a second.
