An open letter to all my loves...

Hey guys.. How ya doin?

I’m assuming by now, you’ve got a pretty good guess as to what this message is going to be, and my heart weighs heavy when writing this…

Tonight, I leave behind Jasper Daniel Brice.

It’s been a long time coming. For awhile, I wasn’t sure where else I could take Jasper. For me, roleplaying is all about telling stories, and when you no longer feel like you have a story to tell for a character… it’s wrong to you and to the character, to try and force a continuation. I realize, that in Jasper’s current state, it’s a bit of a cliff hanger of me, to just end his story here. But that is why I’ve thought of a story as to what happened with Jasper. That’s coming in a bit…

First, I just want to say thank you.

Thank you, to all of you, for letting me share Jasper’s story with you all.

I’ve been with this roleplay since..November of 2014. And since then you guys have done nothing but bring joy and happiness into my life. You guys have allowed me to write awesome stories, to build fantastic connections, and all around have the best roleplaying experience I’ve had in the longest time.

Yano, anyone can join a roleplay. But it’s rare that you find a roleplay with people who you can connect with to such a huge degree. You all in so many ways have become some of my greatest friends, and my family. I truly have grown a love for all of you deep in my hearts, and I want you to know that whilst Jasper is leaving, I am always going to be around on kik (destanicorinn ) and my personal tumblr if you ever want to reach out.

To my babies, Max, Riley, MJ, and Graceland… I love you. With you all I have so many memories, and so many great stories to reminisce on thanks to you.

This entire group is filled with amazing storytellers and people, and it really makes me want to cry saying goodbye to you all (EVEN THOUGH IT’S NOT GOODBYE)

.. As for Jasper,

I think once he is out of the hospital, Jasper decides that the stress and pressure of remembering everyone is too much. He decides instead to go off and figure out his story on his own. He meets his birth parents again, realizes why they aren’t good people, but in the process reconnects with his younger brother. His younger brother demands to keep Jasper in their lives, and to try and rebuild their relation, Jasper’s parents decide to move themselves and Jasper closer to his birth parents. They all work something out, and over time find an agreement, to allow the two boys to be in each other’s lives with a family that gets along. Jasper eventually goes back to Portland for school. During a spring break, he comes home to Stonegate, and reconnects with Max, Grace, and Riley. Along with meeting other people. He doesn’t remember still, but he builds new stories, new memories, and new relationships. And the rest is history …

Jasper’s future was displayed during future week so that’s what happens after that..

It’s rushed, and far from ideal, but it’s what I could do with the time I have left to give you all this letter.

So, yeah.

This sucks. Leaving. I don’t want to leave you guys. Cause this group was such an amazing thing in my life. And who knows, maybe I’ll come back. But for now, I have no more stories left to tell for Jasper, and I feel it’s high time to let someone else take on the Dylan FC and give him some new adventures in Roseboro :)

Max was studying his best friend’s face closely, remembering stories of scars and incidents that had happened but frowning at the new bruises and bumps. They didn’t belong. He was lost in his thoughts that he barely felt the other’s fingers curling around his hand and squeezing. But he felt that. Boy, did he feel that. A jolt raced through his skin and he glanced from his hand to Jasper’s face in shock as the injured boy spoke. “Jasper? Jasper! I’m right here bro, you’re good.”

It took all of his energy to pry his eyes open then at the sound of his name, and the pressure returned against his hand, notifying him that he wasn’t alone. But when his eyes opened, his mind instantly went into a state of sheer panic. His eyes bounced around the room, wild and filled with a mixture of fear and confusion. The blinding lights, the blurry images of a room that was not his own. The itchy feeling of the sheets rubbing against his legs, and the throbbing rushing throughout his head. “Wh––” He couldn’t speak at first, his throat still feeling like knives were being shoved down it with each movement of his vocal chords. “Where––Where..” He wanted to ask where he was, but he couldn’t form the sentence. His tongue felt thick in his mouth, which was filled with the dryness of cotton. Eyes finally landing to the boy beside him, tears rushed to his eyes without his permission. “M––Max?” The name felt right, but the image felt foreign. Why did he look so different? His hair shorter, his face aged. The panic only swelled in his chest.

I'm beginning to feel like that senior who spent the last 4 years befriending only the upper class men, and therefore now that I am the upperclassmen I don't know how to socialize with others because all of my friends have graduated since they were always a grade above me ..

.. and basically this is why my activity has been shit because literally all I've known about Jasper has pretty much been played out of this Rp, and everyone i’ve really built connections with has left, and now I really only have 3 connections that I really know and the lack of muse is hardcore and I need help someone save me.

Max blinked back the burning sensation in the corner his eyes at his friend’s lack of response to their typical awful, yet endearing banter. It had really happened. His best friend was in a car accident and was lying here, unresponsive and broken. Stepping farther into the room, he stuffed his hands into the pockets of his sweatshirt. “Jasper….the joke’s over okay? We had a plan. High school, graduation, college….we were supposed to do them together. I mean, I know l screwed it up with the whole extra year before graduation but..” he trailed off, his voice catching and he swore in Spanish a couple of times before he could get the rest of it out. “Just wake up. I know I’m supposed to have it all together but hell, I don’t have anything with out you, you idiot. You can even punch me again when you wake up if it’ll help, just wake the fuck up man. There’s too many people that can’t lose you.”

Jasper’s fingers curled, unbeknownst to Max, who’s gaze was on the sleeping boys face, but they did, they moved. And Jasper felt as though he was waking up from the biggest hangover of his life. Pain shot through his head, his body ached, and his mouth filled with cotton. The worst part was it felt like someone was sitting on his throat, not allowing him to breathe or even speak. But slowly that faded away, almost like he was peeling off tape from his mouth. His fingers brushed against something. Something warm, and leather like. Skin––A hand. Where was he? He needed help. He couldn’t open his eyes. Feeling the light from wherever he was already blinding him without even sliding back his eyelids. “Helm..” He tried again, this time gripping onto the hand beside his own, and squeezing it with the amount of strength he could muster. “Help..” Breathing out this time, he squeezed the hand tighter, pulling it up to his chest which was beginning to rise and fall roughly. “Help..m..” He repeated again, only this time his words more slurred.

It was amazing how one’s world could come tumbling down with a simple sentence. Should I know you? Probably, considering all the time they’d spent together… all the words they’d exchanged, all the touches they’d shared, and the fact that he held her heart as if it were his own. But in that moment, none of that seemed to matter; because she would never blame him for any of this… it wasn’t his fault. And although it utterly wrecked her that he couldn’t remember any of it, she was more concerned with how terrified he looked as he gazed up at her with vacant eyes, wanting to smooth the crease between his eyebrows with her thumb, wanting to press her lips to his own until he was responding, until he’d calmed down. But she knew that wouldn’t work this time, like it had so many times before. Because Jasper… wasn’t Jasper. 

Not prepared to answer the question, MJ let out a humorless laugh, attempting to keep a smile on her face as she slowly cracked instead, tears beginning to brim in her eyes as she cast her gaze down, away from where he could see; he was already confused enough… he didn’t need her weeping over him to add onto it. “No— No, it’s okay,” She attempted to console with a small, shaky voice, the tears reflecting in his own eyes making her heart ache, the urge to comfort stronger than it’d ever been before. “Really, it’s—” But as she moved to rest her hand on his arm to give it a quick squeeze, she gave an aborted sigh halfway, dropping it instead as she practically pinned it to her side. “… I know you don’t remember,” She told him quietly then, giving him a watering smile as she finally lifted her eyes to meet his own. “I’m uh— I’m MJ,” She continued on then after a long moment, unsure if she should introduce herself as her more common name, or the nickname that he tended to call her, the foreign feeling of introducing herself to the one person who knew her better than anyone making her stomach drop in sorrow despite herself. “… Your girlfriend,” She finished lamely, teeth catching her bottom lip as she worried it anything but gently.

Jasper’s heart stopped in his chest for the second time over the last 48 hours, as he looked up at the quivering girl in front of him. She may not notice it, but he did. The way her hands shook slightly at her side, the way her breaths were short with the promise of sobs. But he noticed it, mainly because he felt his own breaths grow quick within his chest. Like a cool chill had rushed over his body, and taken over. “G––” His breath failed him again, and he had to inhale deeply before speaking. “Girlfriend?” He could only stare at her. Because 50% of his brain felt nothing but confusion. Whilst the other 50% felt an overpowering sense of guilt. Girlfriend. He’d had a girlfriend? Parents who he didn’t recognize. And a Girlfriend. The word repeated in his head over and over and over. Girlfriend. Girlfriend. Girlfriend. And yet not a single flash of an image popped up. Not a single memory of the blonde haired, blue eyed girl, breaking down in front of him. The anxiety swelled, and he felt himself attempting to sit up to allow his lungs more room to breathe. “I can’t––Why can’t I remember you?” He was scared. Fucking terrified. He’d been told he’d been in an accident, but bad was it exactly? And where the fuck were his parents. The anxiety was blending into plain frustration. “S––Sorry, I just don’t understand what’s going on. I need someone to tell me what’s going on..I mean––Wh..” His breathing grew more shaky, his eyes blinking without his consent. Girlfriend. Parents. No Parents. Head. Accident. With each thought his breathing picked up speed. “I can’t breathe..I can’t breathe..” He was prone to panic attacks. But he didn’t know that. How could he know that? He didn’t know anything. Hand touching his chest, he swayed in bed. “––I can’t––”

At a rational point in time, Riley probably would have thought herself mental too. What with the fact that it’s three in the morning and she’s only in her pajamas and bare feet, standing in front of a nurse and shouting incoherent words about room numbers. Her messy hair falls in front of her eyes when her fist slams against the counter, harsh and angry at the fact that the nurse just isn’t getting it. Her best friend’s boyfriend has just bumped his head, and now here she is trying to get in to see him. Because he is her friend now. And he’s important. 

“Why can’t you just tell me where he is?! His name– His name is Jasper Brice. He got in a wreck tonight. But it isn’t serious, so he can’t be in a big important room, cause that’s for hurt people. He’s not hurt, he’s just here.” She demands, but even as the words spill out of her mouth Riley feels the falseness of her own statements lurch her stomach. “Please. I just need to know–” Without her consent, the tired girl’s eyes are beginning to water. 

I’m just mad. I cry when I’m mad. That’s all. Her conscience lies, ignoring the lump in her throat as if it isn’t normal. Instead of having to will herself to tell the woman again about her friend, Ri hears a voice break the pattern started between herself and the brunette behind the computer. And then there are foreign arms wrapping around her, leaving the fragile teen to give into the truth. She’s not just here because Jasper isn’t only bruised up. All too quickly her eyes aren’t just tearing up anymore. Within only a moment of the embrace, Riley’s crying into his mother’s shoulder. “I just– I need to know if he’s okay.”

The nurse takes a step forward, but Elizabeth only pulls Riley closer to her, glaring at the nurse in such a way that causes the woman to stop in her tracks. “Do you mind?” She bites through her teeth, before watching the nurse turn around and hurry back to the front desk. Sighing, she then focuses her attention solely on Riley, as she feels the girl crumble in her arms. “He’s okay.––He’s stable. We’re just waiting for him to wake up,” As the girls sobs grew heavier, Elizabeth closed her eyes. Because she felt it too. The overwhelming amount of panic and fear. The pain that both of those feelings caused. It was overwhelming for her as a mother, she could only assume what these emotions felt like to a teenager. “Shh.. It’s okay. He’s fine. He’s gonna be fine.” When her husband rounds the corner, tired red eyes meeting hers, he pauses, looking from the girl in her arms to Elizabeth. Elizabeth shakes her head, and Michael, nods, walking over to the pair. “Riley, honey, this is Michael. Jasper’s father.––He and I are going to get you all set up for visiting okay, but you just go on and walk in..”

Grace had just seen him. She had just seen Jasper not that long ago. He had commented on her new haircut and told her all about his life as a college student. It all felt so surreal. He couldn’t have been in an accident. This all just had to be some sort of bad dream. But deep down, Grace knew it was far from a dream; and that realization was causing her anxiety to skyrocket. She knew she just had to focus on the now, otherwise she’d make herself sick. She tried to focus on the words Mrs. Brice was saying; but it all still sounded so far away. Still trembling, she buried her face in the older woman’s shoulder. “H-He’s st-strong…” She choked out, needing to convince herself of Jasper’s strength. He’d be okay. He had to be okay…

Elizabeth could see the pain reflecting in Grace’s eyes and something inside of her broke even more than she thought she was. “Baby, he’s gonna be okay, I promise. He has to be.––He’s my boy, and you’re right. He’s strong.” Tucking a hair behind the girl's ear, she used her other arm to rub her shoulder. She had to calm her down. Jasper had told Elizabeth of Grace’s anxiety before, and the last thing she wanted was for the girl to shut down. “..Would you like to see him? He’s just, right in there.” Stepping aside, she allowed Grace a view of the door.

Max swallowed back the lump that had formed in his throat the moment he saw his best friend’s mom, his second mom pretty much, nodding as he did his best to hold it together for her. As much as he wanted to be able to let his worry and concern show he knew he needed to hold himself together. He needed to be the one in control. When nothing was going right, he needed to at least look like he had it all together. He glanced from the receptionist back to the blonde women in front of him before nodding numbly into her hands on his cheeks. “O-okay..”

The walk to the room seemed like a mile. Maybe it’s because he couldn’t seem to communicate with his legs to make them go any faster. And when he finally reached the room, he couldn’t bring himself to enter it. Like if he didn’t see his best friend laying in the hospital bed, unresponsive, it wasn’t true. Just a bad dream that he could wake up from any minute now. “You fuckhead, I was supposed to be the accident prone one.” He muttered as he finally stepped into the room, his words filled with humor but his heart heavy at the sight of the other. “You better wake up soon so I can kick your ass for doing this to me.”

It’s like you’re dreaming. At first. Because whatever this is, this pale, empty void ahead of him, isn’t something he’s ever seen before. It’s like no matter where he turns all there is, is blank. This must be a nightmare. Because either he’s gone blind, or he’s nothing. Both are two very large fears of his. To be nothing. To cease to exist. Wake up, Jasper. You’re only dreaming. He grips his head, pulling at his hair as he always does when he’s stressed. But he instantly hisses as a pain shoots through out his head. Ripping his hand away, his eyes grow wide at the sight of blood coating his fingers. “What the hell..” He whispers, but suddenly there’s tires screeching, and he whips around just as it crashes. Except there’s no car, only blankness. His chest is heaving as he stares at where the car should be. He’d just heard it. “This isn’t possible..” Wake up, Jasper. He shakes his head, hoping to get some reaction. But it’s not until the sound of a voice, a voice he knows, echoes throughout his mind. “You fuckhead, I was supposed to be the accident prone one.” Jasper rushes forward. “Max!?” he shouts, his voice repeating afterwards. “Max, where are you!?” Nothing. “This is just a dream.. Wake up Jasper. C’mon, Wake up.” He runs his hands over his face, even though they’re bloodied, and his head hurts, and GOD, WHY DOES HIS HEAD HURT!? “WAKE UP!!” he finally screams..

A sharp intake of breath is heard from the sleeping boy, but his eyes do not open. His hand twitches, and his eyelids attempt to move, but instead all he releases is a groan. “..Mmfm..”

It were as if the world fell silent around them as Jasper’s eyes skipped frantically around the room, the only sound to be heard being the rapid beeping of the heart monitor as his clear confusion had everyone starting in panic, the doctor included. He didn’t remember his own parents…? But how— Elizabeth had told her that he was in poor condition— But she’d never imagined this. She hadn’t prepared herself for the violent lurch her stomach gave as the other’s gaze fell on her hesitating in the doorway, eyes that were once filled with love and adoration now empty and terrified, looking at her as if she were nothing more than a stranger.  MJ kept silent however, mostly for her own sanity, as she attempted not to break out into a fresh set of tears, lip wobbling as she carefully tucked her hair behind her ear to distract herself. Breathe, she chanted in her head over and over until her lungs were forcing themselves to obey, the look on Elizabeth’s face making it difficult to stay together. Maybe… maybe it wasn’t all that bad; maybe he just had a case of amnesia at the most. It made sense considering the crash and the possible head injury— But she prayed that it wasn’t more serious. Prayed that she’d get the love of her life back eventually. Watching then as the doctor gave his parents a serious look, asking them to step out into the hall so that they could speak privately, MJ felt herself begin to panic, the potential of being left along with Jasper– Who most likely hadn’t the slightest idea who she was– leaving her feeling as if someone had doused her in cold water. Elizabeth squeezed her hand on the way out, shooting her son one last look before the three disappeared out the door, leaving her and her boyfriend alone for the first time since he’d woke up. 

She cast her eyes down then as the room became filled with searing silence, working herself up to making her way over to the other after a long moment with shaking legs as she practically forced herself to put on a small smile. She could do this— No matter what he said, she could stay together for his sake. “Uh— H-hi,” She finally managed to get out as she kept her hands clamped down at her sides, willing herself not to reach out and touch despite the way her body gravitated to him naturally. “Do you uh– Can I get you anything?” She asked quietly instead of asking what she was dying to know, or dreading, she should say. Because she had a feeling she already knew the answer. “Water– Or uh– Do you want to sit up?” She hated the way her voice trembled, but that she couldn’t control, her throat feeling as if it were on fire as she held back the tears threatening to fall

Jasper didn’t understand what was going on. Who were these people? Where were his parents? Not that he’d expected them to come at a time like this. When had they ever really cared about his well being. But either way––he’d wanted them there. He needed them there. How had he been in an accident, that his parents weren’t notified about? His head hurt now, not from the injury, but from the amount of thoughts that were ramming throughout his skull. What the hell was this? Catching the gaze of the doctor as he led the woman and man out of the room, he frowned. They were leaving, leaving to talk about him? Why would the doctor talk to those people about..about him. His gaze followed them until the door was shut, and his view was no longer accessible to him. Sighing, he blinked, looking down at his hands once more. There was so many tattoos. When had he gotten tattoos? Oh, god, Jasper. This is bad. Was all he could think. Something was really wrong with him. How could he not remember all of these things, unless something was wrong? Hesitantly, he lifted his hand, placing his fingers along the bandage covering his forehead and some of his hair. His fingers trembled, and froze upon the damp spot where he only assumed he was still partially bleeding. This wasn’t real. This can’t be real. He was dreaming––The girl. The girl’s voice was what pulled him back. It was soft, and weak. Almost like she was afraid to speak. His hand lowered, and he looked up at her with caution. “Hi?” It had come out as a question, because it was. A question as to her identity. Who she was, and why she’d stayed in the room.

Once she began offering her help, Jasper simply studied her with his eyes. She was dressed too informal to be a nurse––and besides, she looked too young. Her eyes were still raw, just as he’d seen a moment ago, and he couldn’t help but ask himself why she’d looked so distraught.Oh, God. Did he know her? Was he supposed to know her? He didn’t remember the tattoos. Or the people who’d called themselves ‘momma’ and ‘dad’ just a second ago. Was she––Where did she fall into all of this? He was so lost. His heart up ticked once more, as the breath felt like it was being pulled out of him. “Who are you?” He finally released, his voice a mumbled whisper. “I’m sorry, I just––Are you..Do I ..––Why are you here? Do I know you? Should I know you?” His eyes burned with tears, as he grew more panicked on the inside. Why couldn’t he remember things? Why? Why? WHY!?

Dear god, had this been what it felt like? It hadn’t even been year since his own accident and he thought the pain he had woken up to was the worst he would ever experience, but this was so much worse. It was hard to explain how, but it just seemed to cut so much deeper than any physical pain could and he couldn’t believe that he himself had put people through this once. It was terrible. When he had gotten the news, his legs almost gave out and Chloe had given him a ride to the hospital because she saw by the look on Max’s face that he couldn’t make it alone. He barely heard her as she went to park the car and he walked numbly to the counter to ask where his best friend was. What he did hear was the woman repeatedly telling him they weren’t blood and he couldn’t go back there. What did she know? They were more blood than Jasper’s own biological parents were and in Max’s mind, that was obvious. So the desperate argument ensued and If someone told him to just take a seat in that damn waiting room, he was going to go loco. Finally Mrs. Brice appeared and and he felt the kind of relief only a mother can bring. The feeling that everything is going to be okay because mom is there.

“I..I-I brought some…some c-coffee.” he managed to say, his voice tight and quiet due to holding back tears at the sight of her. He hugged her back stiffly, partly due to his shaky grip on the to-go coffee mug that was spilling all down his hand. “Hey Mama B…” he managed to get out as she pulled back to look at him, trying for a smile and failing. The lines and paleness of his face gave away his concern. “I came as soon as I heard…I-I just wanted to see-..they said…but we’re…he’s my brother.” he managed to get out, the cup getting more and more at risk to spill as he shook trying to talk to her.

Staring into the eyes of Max only pained Elizabeth more. Because in his eyes she saw her son. And in her son she saw Max. It was the same. They were the same. They were one since they were younger. When Elizabeth and her husband had first brought Jasper home, and were struggling to gain his trust and his love, Max had been the glue. He’d come into their lives, and helped Jasper. In return helping the transition go much easier for the new parents. It had been tough, but they’d gotten through it. Because of the shaking boy standing right in front of her. She just wished she could go back. Even if her son was okay, even if this was going to just be another bad thing they got through, it didn’t make it any easier. It didn’t make it any less painful. If anything it just made it worse. Especially, because this time she knew, deep within her, that even Max showing up, wouldn’t fix this. Not this time. No, this time, they had to figure out a way to deal with this on their own. And until that happened, she had this. This moment, of tearful gazes, and trembling limbs. “I know,” She whispered. “He is––You’re his brother, which is why I’m going to handle it. Okay?” Eyes glancing at the spilling cup in his hands, she licked her lips, a tear falling down her cheek. “Here, my love, why don’t you give me this,” Her hands gently took the cup of coffee from Max’s hands. “––And you can.. you can go in, and see him. He’s not awake, the doctors said they’re going to allow him to wake up naturally just to give the brain some time to rest..But, he can still hear us apparently, and that’s what’s important. So.” Giving his face a loving hold, she finally stepped aside from him, “I’ll just go find his dad, you go on in. Take your time.”

“—- J-jas?” Em started suddenly in shock as the other shifted beneath her touch, voice unusually small sounding as she watched with slight amazement as movement slowly began draining back into him, his bruised lips twisting in agony as he began to wake. The feeling swelling in her chest was one of mixed emotions, happiness that he was finally showing some signs of life, but also horror that he now had to live with what she could only imagine as unbearable pain. “You’re awake,” She whispered in pure relief, mostly to herself before she was trying to soothe the other, hand clutching his further as she linked their fingers. “Hey, baby, I need you to not– don’t move, okay?” She managed to get out as she let out another chocked out sob, this one more of a laugh than anything else as she gave a watery smile down at her boyfriend, thumb brushing across his temple near reverently as she desperately cupped his cheek, careful not to hurt him further as she did so. “I’m going to get the nurse, just—-” But before she could finish, she was already pushing up from her chair on pure adrenaline, leaning down then to press a delicate kiss to his cheek then, nothing more than a brush of lips on skin before she was out the door. “Mrs— Mrs. Brice?” She called, chest heaving as she jogged to where she still stood with the nurse and doctor. “He’s awake,” She informed then, eyes frantic as she directed them in the direction of his room. With that, she led them back, all three practically tripping over each other as they entered the room, MJ hesitating near the doorway as she allowed his mother to have her moment. She didn’t mind standing back for the time being.

The next moments were like a blur of noises and movements. He could hear people rushing around, and he could feel a hand on his cheek. One that was shaking, and haste, before it was gone just as quickly as it landed. His body hurt. All over. What was happening? The next voice he heard was that of an older woman, raspy and tear filled. “Jasper, honey, it’s momma,” The voice spoke, hand gripping his own. His eyes folded open at the touch, and he blinked in pure confusion as another hand resting on his forehead, gentle and soothing. He released a breath that burned his lungs, and took a moment to focus his vision, which was somewhat blurred from his sudden wake. Words couldn’t form in his mouth as his eyes blinked around the room. There was a woman, older, blonde, standing over him. She was the one holding his hand. Then there was the man on the other side of her, scruffy beard, teary eyes, thanking god that he was okay. And finally there was a girl, on the opposite side of the bed. She had blonde unruly curls, and piercing blue eyes. Her lip was shaking, and she looked like she’d been crying. Either that or she was sick. Her nose was so red. “Jasper,” a voice bellowed, and he flickered his eyes to the man in a lab coat at the foot of his bed. A doctor. Was he in the hospital? Sucking in a sharp breath he looked down at his arm, where bandages and tubes lined his skin. There was gashes and dried blood on him, and where the hell––are those tattoos!? His heart began to thump against his chest cavity, causing his heart monitor to begin beeping erratically. “Wha..” He breathed, just as the doctor spoke on. “Jasper, it’s okay, you’re in the hospital. You were in an accident. You hit your head, but you’re okay, we just kept you asleep for a little while..” Jasper’s breathing picked up pace, and his eyes bounced around the room again. Accident? When had he been in a ..? “..Jasper, how do you feel?” The doctor leaned forward a bit, and he could feel the woman squeeze his hand. His eyes landed on the blonde girl with curly hair, “..I don’t..” Elizabeth leaned down, hands running over his head once more. “You don’t what sweetheart? What is it?” Jasper blinked, “..I don’t understand––w-where’s my––my parents did you ..I need my parents..” The room fell silent, and everyone glanced around at each other hesitantly. “Uh.. Baby, we’re right here..” Elizabeth soothed, her smile twitching. Jasper’s head snapped to her, and he glanced down at their hands before pulling them apart. “What? I––I don’t..”

For Grace, this whole thing was seriously a major case of deja vu. First, she had to go through getting the call that her little sister had been in a car accident. Then, there was going through Max’s whole motorcycle accident. She couldn’t take any more heartache. But when her phone rang and she saw a somewhat unfamiliar number on the caller i.d., she knew something had to be up. She was far from prepared for the words she heard Jasper’s mother say. First Lina. Then Max. Now Jasper. She thought, unable to speak or even process what she had just heard. Oh God, he’s gotta be okay… Never one to handle stress well, Grace was instantly turned into an emotional and anxious wreck.

Once she was finally able to calm down enough to safely drive to the hospital, she did. She had to see him; or at least she had to try to see him. She knew she probably wouldn’t be let through since she wasn’t family; but still. Over the past year, Jasper had become one of her closest male friends. He had been there for her when she desperately needed him; and now it was her turn to return the favor.

Not mentally prepared to start an argument with the nurses, Grace was about to turn and head home when she heard a familiar voice calling from down the hall. Turning around, a small smile fell briefly upon her face at the sight of Mrs. Brice. Failing at her attempt to hold back the tears that had started to well up in her eyes, she headed towards her. Return the embrace of the older woman, Grace could barely keep the tears from flowing. “H-H-How i-is h-he?” She asked, her words choked and barely audible.

Elizabeth didn’t know much about the young Demico girl, if not for the fact that she’d been apart of her son's life almost as long as he’d known Max. Granted, she hadn’t really come over until recently, but still it was something that swelled in Elizabeth’s heart every time someone cared for her son. She felt a sort of responsibility to care for those people in return. Hence the feeling like half the time she had multiple other children aside from just Jasper. Grace, being one very close to her heart. She could remember days seeing the three kids running around, with an naive happiness only children could have. It made her heart sink into her stomach thinking of the irony that they were now standing in this moment. Like a mirror looking back at the other side. Simplier times no longer available to them. Nobody had the luxury of remaining naive, not anymore.

Holding onto the girl tightly, feeling the way she trembled in her arms, she breathed out a shaky breath. “He’s–––He’s stable, but they’re awaiting to see his brain activity when he wakes up. He injured his head pretty badly but, He’s..” The woman trailed off, her throat tightening. “He’s going to be alright. He’ll wake up, and everything will be okay.––And I’m just going to hold off on buying him another car until this all feels far behind us.” If anyone wondered where Jasper got his need to try and lighten the mood from, it was the woman holding Grace right then and there. Inside she was a storm crushing everything in it’s sight, but to these kids. These kids who loved her son, she would remain calm. She would be strong. For them, for her son who couldn’t be, and for herself.

MJ felt like she couldn’t breathe. “I just— I just saw him,” She managed to get out, tears continuing to slip down her cheeks as the other only held her tighter, her embrace managing to calm her slightly if at all. “He came down to surprise me… He shouldn’t— This shouldn’t be happening. He should be back to Portland by now– He– He—” Though she cut off as another sob tore through her, the idea that her boyfriend was lying broken in a hospital room a few doors down physically making her feel weak. She felt like she was in a bad dream— That she would wake up, and Jasper would still be wrapped around her, soothing her back to sleep with soft words and gentle kisses. Forcing herself to calm down then as the other took her cheeks into her hands, their eyes meeting, she gave a shaky nod at her words. “O-okay,” She replied unconvincingly, letting out a heavy breath as she took his mother into her arms once more. She felt guilty, if she was being honest—- This was her son, after all. If anything, she should be the one offering comfort. But at the moment she couldn’t even get herself to think straight let alone support someone else. “Thank you,” She whispered then as the other kissed her temple, leaving her to talk down the nurse who nearly hadn’t allowed her back. Watching his mother for as long as she could through teary eyes, she glanced over her shoulder then to the room she’d come out of, her stomach dipping painfully as she swallowed roughly.  She didn’t know if she could do this. Approaching the door with stiff legs, MJ paused before she could step inside, eyeing the barrier with what could only be described as terror as she briefly prepared herself to see the condition that the other was most likely in. “He’s going to be alright,” She repeated to herself softly, squeezing her eyes closed then before she let out one final breath— She could do this. With that, she finally pushed the door open, heart coming to a stop in her chest as her eyes landed on her broken boyfriend. “Baby…” She found herself saying, her voice sounding foreign to her own ears as a fresh set of tears began slipping down her cheeks. Lip quivering as she attempted to hold back the sobs threatening to rip through her, she moved to sit beside his bed, shaky hand taking his in her own as she clutched tightly. “H-hi, Jas—” She whispered in a broken voice, eyes not knowing where to land as they trailed over his face, taking note of every cut and bruise. She felt like she was going to be sick. “I— I’m here, okay? I’m here, and I love you, and you– You’re going to be okay.” She didn’t even know if he could hear her, but she didn’t want to waste a second if he could. 

Jasper didn’t make a move, except for the rising and falling of his chest as he inhaled each quivering breath. His body was cold, which was the only temperature the body of a boy who had died should be. One looking from afar would assume him to still be dead. What with the limpness of his body, even as his girlfriend took his hand inside her own. Inside his head, everything was blank. No activity, except for the far away sound of a girl’s teary voice. Everything seemed like it was in slow motion. The beeping of the heart monitor, the sounds roaring into his ears. Slowly, his senses were coming to. It had started with the voices, and suddenly, he could feel something in his hand, his fingers twitching and causing a dull ache to resonate over his body. His feet were next, shifting slightly beneath the covers, and his throat grew sore as a low muffled noise came from his lips, “Mfmn..” His groggy, scratchy voice musted, and his head moved only for his mouth to clench in pain. “Mh––ow..” His words slurred, and he attempted to open his eyes but his eyelids ached, and each movement behind his lids caused a teeth shattering pain to shoot through his skull. His first thought processed being, What the hell happened? Where am I? He could feel someone there with him. Feel the cool air of a well conditioned room. But the lights were blinding even with his eyes closed. And he wanted to scream himself awake. This was a dream? Was it a dream? But he couldn’t get the words to come out of his mouth. He released a sigh, although it mostly came out as a grumble. Talk, Jasper, talk.
