Thanksgiving salt
As much as I don't want to be salty on Thanksgiving, I can't help but feel peeved every year when my aunt tells me to lead the prayer before we eat. My aunt. Of all people. She did not birth me therefore she can't tell me what to do. And out of everyone she wants ME to lead the prayer? Why not her kids who are spoiled rotten? Shouldn't they be more appropriate to lead a prayer about I don't know.. GIVING THANKS?! Or my grandma who carries 4 different rosaries in her purse and actually sings in church. But noooo, the sacred duty of leading prayers has been appointed to homegirl. I consider praying to be a private matter between me and the big guy. I don't want people judging me on how informal I talk to our Lord and savior and what I consider the concerns of the world in front of the family. I can't be put on the spot and list everything I should be grateful for just to have her add on to it when I'm done as if my prayer didn't cover everyone's problems. How annoying is that?! Last year I gave thanks for quality education and our nation's military. Wtf right? This is the leader of prayer of the Sebastian family. A salty, patriotic 25 year old student.
I wish
everything was as easy as getting fat
Dear Jay,
Please forgive my untimeliness to your post. Dreams are silly things and can be interpreted in many ways. You may subconsciously feel like you’re being left behind, but I believe we all feel that way, especially at this age. Having children should not be the benchmark of progress. Most of the people in my nursing program are married with children and the only reason why they are in that stage so early is because (and i can say this with the utmost confidence) MILITARY. Everyone’s progress is different. I think social media poisons our life decisions and makes us think we’re not where we should be based on the highlight reel of others. Whether it’s marriage, children, new job, or what have you, instead of being happy for others we tend to compare what we haven’t achieved with what others have. I think the key is to stay focus on our own goals and build the life we want instead of paralleling our decisions with our friends. I think we’re both at a stage of monotony but rest assured it wont be like this for long. I’ve been having nightmares lately about school and working at Jollibee again. I don’t know which one is worse. I barely sleep to begin with and when I do I have to relive bullshit in my dreams.
Wouldn't it be great...
if we lived in a world where people wouldn't volunteer information about their oh so great life without being prompted? That's the kind of world I'd wanna live in.
Dear Robyn,
Last night I dreamt all our close girlfriends were pregnant. In an attempt to come off excited and joyful, I eagerly walked on over to congratulate them. I continued to ask questions as if I cared and smiled way too much. Is my dream telling me everyone is moving forward in life but me? Perhaps. Either way I'd say I'm lightly salted by it.
