Decided the generic skull mask wasn't smarmy looking enough to be considered Papyrus, so I did some more work. Enlarged the right eye and added on some eyebrows and lower eyelids with some Apoxie sculpt. Filled in most of the cracks around the skull as well to go for a more cartoony look. Once this sets in about 24 hours, I'll sand and apply glazing putty to blend the details together smoothly.

Mounted the teeth from the backside with some apoxie sculpt. It's not super secure but I'll back it up with another coat of fiberglass resin over the whole helm. This final resin coat will also help prevent cracks from forming where the apoxie sculpt and pep meet, as well as any deep glazing putty areas.

Loving how the mouth and teeth are turning out. Taped them in temporarily to see how they will eventually look together. Also added on the cheek bones with some apoxie sculpt, obviously they will be sanded down and blended into the pep later.

First coat of fiberglass on the outside of the pep. The idea is to gently make the paper rigid so it doesn't flex once heavier coats are applied. Right now the pep is flexible so we don't want to change the intended shape at all while we wait for it to become more solid than paper + hot glue.

Follow the first outside coat with a coat of fiberglass on the inside. I like to over shoot how much fiberglass I'll need on the inside and use the exces as a second coat on the outside. Once the fiberglass leaves it rigid I mix some rondo (even parts Fiberglass resin and bondo filler, use the hardener from each). I do at least 2 slushs of rondo on the INSIDE of the pep. I like to alternate colors of my pep so I can see how deep I'm sanding later, just mix in a little bit of acrylic paint into your rondo mix and it'll change colors (it WILL affect your cure time though) make sure you use bright colors (my neon purple works GREAT!). This helmet actually took 4 slushes to get 2 coats in with the size of it. In order to get inside your pep you'll have to either drill a hole or whatever opening is available on your pep already. you can close this gap up with masking tape and slush over it in order to close the hole again.

Next up is sanding, I like to start with a pass with my Dremil (60 grit drums) and work my way up to finer grit paper. my order is: 60 grit dremil wheel (sands off the nubs and drips) 60 grit paper (smooths out major build ups and levels everything out) Fill major dips and dents with bondo 60 grit paper (level out the bondo) 60 grit paper (again for good measure) fill with glazing putty (picture shows this stage) sand with 100 grit paper fill any bad spots with more putty 150 grit fill etc etc until you've reached a grit you're happy with (don't stop until you at LEAST hit 220 or it'll look shoddy)

Currently sanded to 100 grit, I cut out part of the back and bottom of the mask to try it on. I'm applying more fiberglass now to reinforce some low spots. Next I'll be cutting out and building up some of the facial features.

Since this blog is brand new I’m going to be dumping some of my old projects periodically. Current project is Sans and Papyrus from Undertale so expect updates on that.

Skeleton mask I made from discount Halloween decorations. The mouth moves!

Few details need to be added like a black mesh around the eyes and a black morphsuit so you don’t obviously see my neck in the mouth. I also think I’m going to build up some features on the mask to give it more of a smarmy expression.

And of course I’m going to be using it for Papyrus.
