Pour some salt, we were never here

It was 10pm. The three of us crowded on a 2 person table in the middle of Avenida da Liberdade with glasses full of vinho verde and hearts full.

It had been a week, but I was still wondering how I had found myself in this very spot. Was it really happening? I knew it was, and yet it was all coming on so fast it was hard to truly be here in the moment. My body wasn’t sure what hour it truly was, but we just kept drumming on.

We picked this spot unassumingly. A band played ‘Three Little Birds’ and a crowd started to gather around us. We had barely been here a day, and I felt myself falling helplessly in love with everything around me.

I recognized the men at the table next to us, our neighbors from the Fontecruz. They waved hello. Everyone was laughing, singing, dancing, and smiling. Even the waitresses. The singer told us, every little thing was gonna be alright.

I looked around. It would be impossible to take it all in. It would be impossible to have found myself in this moment by regretting the steps it took to get me here.
