Kali Uchis | Sincerely,
I’ve seen a lot of people upset about characters not believing MC about not kissing Justin and saying it ruins Liam/Dakota/Henri but like… It’s one of my favorite parts about the game.
I really like when there are set points in IF when the authors basically go ‘regardless of who you like, this is what everyone does’ because it feels like they’re developing/defining characters instead of just making a generic romance story where any character can be substituted in.
In this case, it tells us that Liam and Dakota get vindictive when they’re jealous (and then are incredibly apologetic afterward) and that Henri isn’t afraid to speak his mind but does it in a very fair and open minded way. We also learn that Sarah’s incredibly loyal and decides based on how she feels about the people involved, and that Alex is rational and decides based on what makes sense.
And also, I don’t blame Liam and Dakota for not believing MC. Especially if MC has been rulebreaking (and lying about rulebreaking)... Especially especially if MC has been juggling multiple romance options and kissing different people… Why would Justin be any different? And even if MC has been a loyal saint, it seems like such a weird thing for Justin to lie about. Lana has been confirming every rule break, so it’s seemingly nonsensical for him to lie when he should know he’ll be caught out. They’re not super close to Jada, so they don’t get the emotional stakes that make the kiss a betrayal rather than just more horny antics. So from their perspective, it really just seems like MC is embarrassed about rule breaking with Justin (or regrets it) and is lying.
And TBH it makes me like Liam more because he can admit when he’s wrong and resolve to do better. Dakota admitting to being jealous is meh for me, but Liam saying “that’ll be the last time I believe Justin over you” is 🥰
