Philipsburg is the capital of St Maarten. It is a beautiful island with the clearest water I have seen yet. Definitely on my list to return to. You can go to the waters edge and get a massage on the beach in one of the little huts. It is just paradise.
Carnival Glory is one of Carnival’s Conquest class ships. She was built in Italy in 2003. She can hold 2,980 passengers plus the crew. She has 2 pools plus the water works slides that Carnival is famous for. There is a big screen tv out by the pool so that you can relax and watch a movie at night. I love to grab a blanket and sit out there and watch whatever they have playing. It is always a new release. You would not think that you would need a blanket but that wind on top of that ship gets rather cool at night.
Key West Florida. This was a lot like being on Nassau. The Key Lime Pie was phenomenal.
Cuba is another beautiful stop. It sits kind of between Florida and Mexico with Havana being it’s capital. It is a very diverse island culturally. It is not a rich island.
The Mariner of The Seas is a voyager class ship from Royal Caribbean. It holds 4,252 passengers. It is a very luxurious ship. It even has a Starbucks on board. It has a sky pad, flow rider simulator, laser tag, and an escape room.
The food on the ship is excellent. Carnival is known for their molten chocolate lava cake. It is very rich and made with dark chocolate. It normally comes with only 1 scoop of ice cream but we always request 2 scoops. Usually whatever port you are in, that night in the dining room they will have a menu based on the local cuisine.
Cozumel Mexico was a great stop and of course you have to go by Senor Frog’s. I think there is one at every port now. One thing I found strange was as we got off the ship to go into Mexico we had to be screened by drug dogs but when we left Mexico to get back onto the ship we did not. I found that odd.
The Dr Seuss Breakfast is an additional option to most Carnival cruises and I would highly recommend it to everyone of all ages. The food is lots of fun and tastes great. The entertainment was also fantastic. We try to make this on each ship that offers it.
The Brilliance of The Seas is of the Royal Caribbeans radiance class and it holds 2,112 passengers. It has a luxurious feeling to everything on the ship. While on board we took the sushi making class that was offered at the Izumi restaurant. It was a wonderful experience. There was also a top notch coffee bar on the ship. They sail out of Tampa, Florida and Boston, Mass. We went during the holidays and the ship was decorated beautifully.
The Carnival Elation ports out of Port Canaveral Florida and sails to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. It holds 2,190 guests. There are many different foods options on board such as Guys Burger Bar, The BlueIguana Cantina, the buffet that changes daily and the more formal dining room. You can also get pizza 24 hours a day and room service. You will not go hungry on board ship.
Graycliff is an area of Nassau that is really beautiful and colorful. They have a cigar factory where you can make an appointment and make your own cigar. They have a chocolate factory where you can make your own candy bar. They also have an artists studio that is extraordinary.
Defending Nassau was a very serious affair. If you ever go to the island make sure you take a tour of the forts. They are very educational. They have the cannons still mounted on the rails like they would have been. You can tell that they island was very well defended.
The Queen’s Staircase is on Nassau. It is a very steep and impressive set of stairs that was carved into the island. It was made so that the Queen would be able to escape if the island was being attacked. At the bottom of the staircase it ends with high cliff walls on each side and she could be taken straight out to a waiting ship.
The Garden of The Groves on Freeport in the Bahamas is just beautiful. You could spend hours just exploring this area alone. There are numerous flowers and trees that are native to this island and they are just breath taking. The Labyrinth is very interesting also.We should all take the time out of our life and take a “walk of release”.
The Islands Caves on Nassau. On one of our trips to Nassau we rented a side by side and drove down Bay St until we got past the busier spots and we came across the caves. It was just off the road and easily accessible. We had a wonderful time getting out and exploring.
Atlantis. When traveling to Nassau one of the more popular tourist destinations is to the hotel Royal at Atlantis. It has a huge water slide that is designed to look like a Mayan Temple. It has a casino as well as lots of shopping. There is a private beach for the people who pay for a pass or are guests at the hotel.
Port Lucaya Marketplace on Freeport. If you ever get to Freeport you need to go shopping in Port Lucaya. Zorbas has a wonderful assortment of pastries that were delicious and we were even able to get coffee to go with it. This was after we got our fried Conch dinner for lunch at an outdoor bar/restaurant that was just a couple of doors down from here. You just take a taxi from the port and get out and walk the row of shops. Don’t be afraid to talk to the locals and ask questions. They are wonderful to get to know.
