There is no reason to keep watch, she has made no moves to escape the cell, still analyzing options. Nonetheless, the Halo-bearer, Ava is visiting. Again.
There must be a reason, and unfortunately to the detriment of the mission, her curiosity seems to be getting the better of her.
"Hi, Beatrice! How're you doing today?" Ava brightly asks.
"Same as yesterday. In a cell, handcuffed and chained to a bed." Beatrice deadpans. There are no windows in this cell, but she can tell it's already been several days. It helps that the Halo-bearer comes to greet her every morning.
"I'm sorry about all that, I really am Bea, but look those chains are for your safety and ours." She replies, looking uncomfortable with the topic.
"These chains are meant to keep me in check?" Again not really a question but wanting her to confirm it. If this is all they have to prevent her escape, it would be easy to formulate a plan.
"Well yeah, but just in case. The others thought that you might try to hurt someone, so in the event that that happens, the cuffs will give a little shock. They're safe though, Jillian made them. " Ava tries to reassure her prisoner for whatever reason.
Jillian Salvius? Connect to the OSC? She files that information away for later.
"Hmm, how high is the voltage?" You ask absent-minded, thinking of ways to get out if it's low enough.
"Uhm, I think it's about 30? Or was it 40? I'm not sure but it's not fatal or anything.
"Not bad, but it'd take more than that to incapacitate me completely. I'll still be able to fight. "
Why am I telling her this?
"What?"
"I've been trained for this."
"Excuse me?"
"To endure electric-shock torture, multiple electro-torture methods actually." Electro- magnetic torture was the worst she remembers and stifles a shudder.
"You think we would..? And you've been- they've been-"
Beatrice turns to a face full of devastation, pain and unrelenting anger. And tears. Always tears. Something twinges in her chest at the sight, and she frowns.
"Why are you crying?"
"Beatrice," her voice wobbly, She pauses to take a deep breath. "Bea, you- you're telling me that they've been torturing you?"
"Well, torture training. How to resist and the like." She says matter of factly.
"Fuck"
"Language."
Ava bring her head up sharply to look at Beatrice, eyes wide, searching.
Confused at her reaction, she looks at the halo bearer, "Do you not have torture exercises in the training regime here?"
"No Bea...we don't." Still looking incredibly upset for some reason.
Beatrice blinks awake, everything hurts. Feeling groggy and confused she looks up at a woman fiddling with an i.v in her arm.
What is her old housekeeper doing here?
"Rosita?" She mumbles, "Where am I? What are you doing here? I haven't seen you since my parents fired you for letting me out of the basement a week early. Gosh, Father was so furious after you left, I hadn't seen him that angry in a while. It didn't help that he was already angry about my grades, that was a horrible night. "
Shuddering at the memory, she pushes it back into the large box of traumatic experiences in her mind.
Despite this, Beatrice strangely feels the need to share everything about that particular incident with Rosita, so she resumes her account.
"Mother had to take me to a clinic that time, instead of a home visit from Dr. Evil," Beatrice chuckles over her nickname of her parents' cruel medical associate.
She continues her ramble, "Father protested of course but there was a lot of blood so I think she was actually worried. Although, I suspect she just wanted me in top form for the upcoming gala. Anyway, it turns out he cracked a rib and I got to stay in bed for a week, which wasn't so bad." Beatrice remembers that week being extremely painful but peaceful. While her parents didn't allow her the prescribed pain medication, at least they left her alone.
"But they still starved me as punishment, and I really missed you sneaking food for me, the woman who was hired after you was too afraid of my parents. Not that I blame her of course, they were quite terrible p-" looking up Beatrice abruptly cuts off her rambling, realizing as the haze of anesthesia passes, this was not Rosita, her kind, sweet, protective housekeeper from her childhood.
This was a nurse that she did not know, who she just divulged one of her more painful memories to - which was supposed to stay a secret, who is now looking at her in alarm and bewildered confusion. The nurse glances to her left and Beatrice freezes, stomach dropping. She registers frighteningly that they were not alone in the room. Slowly, Beatrice turns her head and takes in her friends, her family's expressions, which ranges from surprise, to sadness, to disgust and most of all anger. Nobody says anything and the silence is deafening.
The blood was pounding in her ears. Her heart started thudding in her chest. Her hands began to shake.
This was not supposed to happen. Beatrice was not to speak of these matters to anybody. Those memories were to stay her shameful painful secret. How could she do this? Now they knew.
She couldn’t look at them anymore so she turned away and shut her eyes. It was getting hard to breathe. Really hard.
Oh no, she thought, this is the worst possible time.
Needing something grounding, Beatrice dug her nails into her palms and tried to catch her breath using her usual exercise to no avail. Her chest was tight and she was starting to sweat from her eyes.
Suddenly, there were hands on her face and she opened her eyes to a tearful Ava, worried anger in her eyes.
"Beatrice! Breathe. You need to breathe, Bea. It's okay, you're safe. Breathe, Bea please."
"Ava," She gasps out "I'm sorr-"
"Shh it's okay Bea, you're safe. I promise. We're here for you. " Ava assures in a whisper. "Just try to breathe for me please"
But she can't. It's too much. Now that it's out there, those days are all she can think about. The box erupts and the memories spill out. Her father's angry disappointment and her mother's negligent apathy fill her mind. Reliving every painful moment, every strike, every meal missed, every punishing isolation in total darkness.
Distantly, Beatrice hears Ava desperately calling out to her. She tries to respond but nothing comes out.
The not-Rosalita nurse returns in her eye line to stick a syringe into her i.v. Beatrice immediately feels the effects, pulse slowing, breathing comes easier. Feeling her eyes start to shut, the last thing she sees is Ava haloed by the lights above before she falls into darkness.
Wow, I love how FinnRey was the main pairing for Rise of Skywalker! They’re such a power couple!
For real though it’s practically criminal how they dropped the budding romance between these two from Force Awakens for R*ylo in the later two movies so I’m gonna do my part to reclaim things, starting with a kiss. <3
I poked around a bit looking to see if anyone had done anything like this already and didn’t find anything so I made my own, but if someone actually did I would love to see it! (Also, Finn doesn’t drop dead right after this kiss, they get their happy ever after.)
I’ve been seeing talk of a spider-man Au with Ava as Peter and I just wanna say….imagine Beatrice as Gwen but don’t imagine Bea/Gwen dying in Ava/Peters arms
Head canon for season 3: Beatrice is chosen by one of the deities in the upcoming holy war to wield a weapon and fight for them. The weapon is sorta like a staff that can morph and Beatrice can absorb it back into her body, maybe like her chest or back. Idk if I want her to be brainwashed or have amnesia but she is forced to fight against the OCS and of course Ava. Beatrice is a badass and Beatrice with a super weapon is a problem and is constantly beating the OCS at every turn. Until like Lilith and Ava team up to bring her back (bonus if Mary is there too). They bring Bea back, happy reunion happy kisses happy happy, but then they have to fight the other deity that wants the weapon back and yadda yadda fights cool fights. Reya shows up out of nowhere and finally helps, but Beatrice is badly hurt and needs to go to reyas realm to heal and crying tears, bittersweet kisses, I love yous, and goodbyes. Some time later, during a battle, Ava hears her name and someone telling her to phase, the enemy that she didn’t see about to attack her is dead and has a familiar weapon in their head. She turns around and sees Beatrice smiling “you have to be more careful Ava.”
Why, she wants to scream. She wants to rage to the heavens. It wasn't supposed to happen like this. Beatrice was supposed to stay safely above them, out of Adriel reach and out of harms way. She wasn't supposed to be bleeding out from divinium shards that were meant for her. But she's here. She's here in Ava's arms in growing puddle of her own blood and Ava cant-
"Ava."
She hears a pained grunt and then a hand on her cheek.
"Beatrice", she whispers
"Ava, Ava are you okay? Nothing hit you right?"
She lifts her eyes to Beatrices' face, taking her focus off of the blood and the shards piercing into her, all ove-
"Why?!" Ava sobbing now "Why would you do this Beatrice!?"
And Beatrice just looks are her, hand still on her cheek wiping away her tears. Ava gazes into her eyes and finds nothing but pain, determination, understanding but most of all Love.
"For the same reason you did." Beatrice replies with a pained but loving smile on her face.
"We have to get you out of here Beatrice, you need help." Ava cries, she can't stop, not when Beatrice is in her arms (and not the way she usually wants), in pain and bleeding and looking at her with so much love it makes her heartbeat stutter but Beatrice might be dying in this basement, in her arms while they are separated from their team and it might be her fault.
With another pained grunt, Beatrice says "Right, j-just give me a minute-" a whimper, "I'll be okay to move in a minute."
"Okay, okay we can wait." And Ava can't but this is what Beatrice needs and Beatrice might be dyi- so she can wait. She can wait for her to be okay.
The only sounds in the basement are the labored pained gasps and breaths coming from Beatrice and Ava's quiet breathing as she supports Beatrice sitting up.
So it's especially jarring when they start to hear maniacal cackling coming from where the blast had tossed Adriels body.
