Most of life should be viewed as a game of chance.

This year we won’t be hearing Dean Martin belt out Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow! nor infinitely surreal Bing Crosby harmonizing The Little Drummer Boy with David Bowie.

Instead, it’s prominent brass trumpets, Mariachi style; songs sung exclusively in Spanish, foreign medley I can’t fully interpret. You gotta appreciate a Mariachi band, mood elevators they are, even out of tune, often not in sync.

No ice skating for us either, on a pasture’s frozen pond nor evenings at an outdoor portable rink, equipped with vibrant dancing snowflakes, cast between skaters from unobtrusive overhead light projectors.

This holiday season we’ll find satisfaction bobbing and rolling, softly tossed about onto a smooth sandy cove, as the tide has its upper hand pulling us out once again for another gentle tumbling round.

Seven years ago he stuffed LouLou’s stocking, tucked among those festive items was an oversized ruby and gold costume ring which covered half of her dainty finger, LouLou couldn’t wait to try it on — instantly holding Santa’s promise against her heart with the free hand. We teased about how she’d do getting older, moving to the North Pole and all, yearlong white-out conditions didn’t seem much a matter.

LouLou has suffered Insectophobia (self-diagnosed by Jehr and myself) since she was two years old. After a bug incident this morning on a morning hike, Jehr asked her to write a story about insects to help her deal with her fear.... Insectopia Once upon a time there was two ants that were married and lived in a hole below a bed in a house in Australia. Now these ants names were Joey Jones and Samantha Jones. They lived in a very nice house (well for ants anyway). Joey worked very hard as a carpenter and Samantha was a house ant; she also took care of the kids, all 15 million of them. Even with their hectic life they still had a lot of fun together, sometimes at night Mr. Chirp, the musical cricket came over to play a few songs for the Jones family. Sometimes they went to the theater to watch the Butterfly Ballet or Beauty and Dung Beetle or even Mayfly Lake. The Jones family had a lot of friends like Mrs. Squirm, the bookworm librarian, Miss Charlotte Thread, the spider seamstress, and of course, Mrs. Honey Stripes; her family owned the local candy store. Now besides them let’s take a look at the other bugs that lived in Insectopia: there is Mrs. Rosie Spots, the ladybug hat maker, Mr. Chirp and his orchestra. Mrs. Hopper, who taught the grasshoppers dancing class. Madame Butterfly opened a clothing store. The ant colony brought food into Insectopia and worked on construction. There is also the hospital opened by Mr. Sergio Mosquito and his wife. The Insect Awareness Club opened by a little bit of everybody. Miss Cleopatra Beetle, the scarab beetle who has a makeup store. We also have the Community Garden who was opened by many kinds of bees, now the most important bug in the city is Queen Elizabeth bee; she rules Insectopia and all the bugs, they are very happy together.
