Ok guys, look, I’m black and I’ve been quite adamant on avoiding any ‘racist’ comments by idols because I hate demonising them and everyone calling them racist when they are human. Most people cannot look at me straight in the face and tell me they didn’t say a racist or discriminatory 'joke’ once in their life (and yes, it’s wrong). Personally, I just don’t get offended any more by racist jokes and avoid it because I can keep my self esteem in tact, and the idols who said those things are usually idols who I don’t know. But this time it’s Jongdae. My first reaction was , “It’s probably a lie or something by allkpop because they like demonising idols.” So I ignored it and went here, wondering whether it was a misinterpretation. Turns out it wasn’t, and yes that makes me sad that it is actually the truth, and sad that SK has such terrible views about black people that it’s normal to say, but I know Jongdae and he is genuinely an angel- he is always really kind and sweet to everyone, no matter if they are strangers, what gender they are and what race they are. So yes, he shouldn’t be excused and should learn from his mistakes and be educated, just like the rest of SK needs to be educated, but he shouldn’t be demonised. So many rubbish celebrities in the US and UK have said racist, fascist, homophobic and all manner of terrible things, yet they get a free pass. I’m not saying give Jongdae a free pass, but help educate him as he is a grown up and will listen to what we have to say. And as an ARMY as well as an EXO-L, do not even dare use this to drag EXO down and make this a fanwar thing, or delete yourself as a follower right now. I don’t want your toxicity in my vicinity. But if Jongdae doesn’t pull out an apology, SM may be to blame because they like things 'disappearing’, but again I won’t pull the blame on Jongdae. Yes, as an EXO stan I genuinely still adore him, and it’s fine if you have your opinions, but I just felt that I needed to speak out as a black girl. The most depressing thing to me though is that just as we got tons of CBX vlives, EXO won’t do any more because they are afraid of getting into scandals for what they say (again). And yes, it’s good he will probably never say something like that again, but he may actually never say something, which is heartbreaking. Again, there are the bigger issues but I’m tired, and yes Jongdae did wrong but don’t send him death threats- he’s human and as well as listening, this may impact his psychological health and I am sick and tired of hearing my beloved idols dying or commiting suicide. Don’t inflame fanwars, educate him and don’t you dare make him out to be a devil, because he isn’t.
