for the love of god, write all the self-indulgent scenes you want. be utterly shameless about including every last fantasy. i know everyone likes to share quotes and quips about how miserably hard writing is, but please please try thinking of it as a joyful act where you get to be a messy human who makes art rather than some pain filled quest for icy perfection.

And holy smokes what is any part of a life well-lived but self-indulgence?

We eat foods we like when we can, we watch programs we love when we can, we surround ourselves with people who make us feel good when we can, to suddenly draw the line at writing as a place not to indulge your soul sounds like “have sex for babies only.” In other words, it sounds like some stupid, stupid, stupid ‘literature’ rule.

When you write with joy, when you write what you yourself would love to read, I promise you you grab us, the reader, by our lapels and drag us delightedly into your vibrant world.

When you write, please please please: INDULGE YOURSELF.
