You know, I actually didn’t date until I was out of school because my dad was crazy. So even if that reality existed, you’d probably ask and he would do something to dismember you before I could say yes, so if you’re still wondering why nobody was ever interested in me that would be why.

I know. She’s nineteen and doesn’t understand, so I can’t really hold it against her. When I was growing up I was a lot worse. If we knew each other then, you wouldn’t have liked me.

It would definitely have been interesting. I was kinda cocky as a teenager so I probably would have just asked you out then and there. In a reality where we were both the same age at the same time, of course.

That’s not just a people thing, it’s a Mystic Falls thing. I wish I could say it’s new, but from what my son’s told me…it sounds exactly like it used to be here.

The thing about this town is...I haven’t seen any...’hostile’ vampires that the humans claim are here. I guess I just don’t understand what they’re hunting other than innocent people that died with vampire blood in their system. Hate runs deep I suppose.

Combat training is just a lot...for someone that’s not going to really use it. I think some townspeople here put themselves through a lot to ‘hunt’, apparently, even though they don’t know the half of it.

There was once, but it was…a really long time ago. You make it sound like your life was hell before you found this place. Which is ironic, because everything I hear about Mystic Falls is that being here…has that impact. But hopefully you’re right.

Well, whoever it was...is an idiot. Well, I’ve seen a lot of things. And, before I went into the marines, home was...too ordinary. The last time I was there didn’t really make me want to go back, either. I, uh, proposed to this girl and she kind of rejected me. I wasn’t too close with my adoptive parents although I’m thankful for what they gave me. And, when I died...I didn’t see going back as much of an option. I didn’t want to drag anyone into this world and I didn’t want to change their memory of me so I just...never went back. I never had much that meant anything to me and the moment I turned my old life was gone. I guess I’m just hoping for a change.
