We picked Ivy up early from camp today and surprised our girls with water park passes. Always nice to throw them in the car and give them a plot twist that we’re doing something new and fun haha. They were thrilled and had the best time. I went down the big water slide with Ivy approximately 10 times and have no regrets. It’s nice letting the inner child out once in a while.

We ended up picking up discounted season tickets for the remainder of the summer and have passes to take friends with us, so I’m looking forward to taking advantage of that. Already have a play date planned for it next week!

A few pictures from our 4th! We definitely had an interesting day with the weather—we got rained on multiple times but it finally stopped about 2 hours before we left for fireworks so the show was still on, thankfully. We did not end up walking to the park because of how wet it was, and I’m grateful we did not this year because Violet was so cranky and exhausted by the time the fireworks were over. I couldn’t imagine trying to get her to walk home like last year. We got home and she went right up to her room and asked to go to bed haha. It was still a great day with our good friends despite the rain and everyone had a good time, especially all the kids.

Now I’m up getting ready for work so there’s that 😅 so tired lol.

Mom got home from the hospital very early this morning and has been resting. She said she was in the worst pain she feels like she ever felt and her chest was very heavy and heart pounding and she couldn’t stop profusely vomiting. The doctors did all the tests and everything came back normal! So they think she has a bad case of food poisoning. We were soooo worried she was having a heart attack or something so I’m grateful she’s home and starting to feel better

Just got news that my mom got suddenly very sick and is currently being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance 😩 I don’t have much more information but good vibes are appreciated.

Today has been a lotttt.

First, being a Friday and the day before a holiday was a recipe for an especially busy day at work. I completely forgot that a friend and I planned a pool day and so I rushed home and got Violet ready and rushed to the pool just in time to find that they were closing because they heard thunder in the distance exactly once. It was fine, I understand for safety purposes that they have to do that. We ended up picking up Ivy early from camp, waiting for half an hour to make sure the weather was clear and attempting to take the kids to the splash pad instead. They played for another half hour before there was another roll of thunder in the distance. Sooo the splash pad shut down too. Friend and I decided she would run home to grab her sprinkler and come to my house for the kids to play because the weather ultimately stayed clear. On our way home, Matt calls and asks me to stop by the meat market for something for tomorrow and we ended up having to park a block away because the place was fucking packed. Got that, went home and got there in time for our friends to arrive. The kids played in the sprinkler (never going to financially recover from the water bill lol) and my friend and I chatted while I prepped the food for tomorrow. They leave, I make dinner for the kids and spend the next hour and a half finishing the chores I want to get done around the house before tomorrow.

My feet hurt. A late day caffeine pick-me-up didn’t do shit for me today. I’m also starving. But at least the majority of the things are done and I can wake up in the morning and have my coffee without stressing as much about the to do list!

We got Violet some leotards for gymnastics since it seems like she’s going to stick with it and she is currently wearing her first one to her lesson happening right this moment.

You can tell we’re the newest gymnast/gymnastics parent combo when I showed up with her and realized according to how all the other girls were wearing their leotards that Violet’s is very obviously on backwards…. And we didn’t have time to go switch it before the lesson started so she’s out there wearing her leotard backwards and I’m just sitting here watching her like 🤦🏻‍♀️

Fail. How embarrassing lol.

I’m so grateful our friends are all bringing sides, dessert, and whatever drinks they want for the 4th, because ringing up what we’ll be providing made me want to vomit a little. Groceries have gotten painfully more expensive than they used to be. It has never been this expensive for us to host, and we usually provide most food and drink when we do it. So please be reminded that when you see us celebrating the 4th this weekend, know that we do mean it in a very “fuck this administration” kind of way.

However, the bbq menu is looking real tasty and everyone seems to be excited to hang out. Matt will be grilling hot dogs, bratwursts, and burgers. Our sides include potato chips, pasta salad, deviled eggs, fresh fruit and a veggie tray. We have all the popsicles for the kids and a friend is bringing gooey butter cake (a St. Louis classic) for dessert. I’m prepping a playlist for the speaker, and we will have two canopies for shade.

My girls are both really excited to have a good handful of friends in their age range to hang out and see the fireworks with this holiday. Violet has been counting down the days, literally. We just have a ton to get done around here before Saturday afternoon so I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t feeling a little stressy right now… and yet here I am typing on tumblr instead of being productive 😅 go me!

I’ve officially started preparations for the 4th this weekend. It’s Matt’s first one off in several years, so we thought it would be fun to host our local friends for a bbq and all walk together to the park for the firework show since we only live 3 blocks away. We have like 13 people coming over, including 6 other kids. I walked there with the girls last year and it was way more convenient than trying to find a spot to park and then getting out and home in the traffic. However, it’s now looking like it might be 1000 degrees on Saturday so that’s… fun. We’re also limited in the water activities we can provide because the sewer company got bought out and sewer/water rates have doubled so our bill here has skyrocketed. It’s so painful and frustrating, and something Matt has been filing official complaints about and petitioning others to do the same… it’s a soapbox you can’t get him off of once he gets started and a hill he will die on with the water company at this point lol. But yeah, we might spend a good amount of time during the bbq actually hanging out inside, but it should hopefully be tolerable outside in the evening when it’s time to walk down to the park.

I did go to the store with Violet today and we got a bunch of things for all the kids to do. We got pop-it’s, sparklers, party poppers and smoke sticks, I got a refill for our bubble guns and new sidewalk chalk, as well as bead and glow necklaces. We’ll have a ton of popsicles. Just all the things. Hopefully despite the heat it will be a really good time for the kiddos and adults alike.

The weekend was an overall success! As much work as the trips are, I just absolutely love making camping memories with my little family. The girls always have an awesome time and never want to leave, and it’s always good way for Matt and I to connect with each other for a few days (even if I did want to smother him in his sleep because he forgot a cpap part and kept me up some with his snoring 😬). The girls’ favorite part of the trip was, of course, playing in the river. They were nervous at first but got confident quickly. Ivy even made friends with two boys her age while we were there, and I noticed one of the adults with those boys had an umbrella that said “No Kings - Resist” on it. Of course, in the middle of very Republican nowhere Missouri, I had to compliment it and strike up a conversation. They were very refreshing to meet while we were out there, and Ivy really enjoyed her time playing with the boys. Violet loved the river too, but spent a lot of time there and at the campsite collecting cool rocks, showing just how much like me she might actually be after all 😂. She brought a whole bucket home of them.

Our sweet dog Kira did excellent on the trip, as usual. She absolutely hates water, so she didn’t get in the river but she didn’t seem anxious about it at all. She got to meet lots of people (especially kids) and got tons of pets. She sleeps well in the camper, but is exhausted by the trip and climbed up on the couch and passed out as soon as we got home. I really can’t complain about her at all, she’s an awesome family dog and seems to love camping with us. Love her to pieces.

So yeah, another good camping trip in the books for our little family! So far I think this has been the girls’ favorite one.

Matt forgot part of his cpap this trip and I lowkey really want to smother him in his sleep for the snoring I’ve had to endure all weekend 😅 I have not gotten much sleep and I am crankyyyyy

We have officially booked Ivy’s birthday party for the local pool this year and since she’s made some friends these last few weeks at the summer camp program, she’s of course asked to invite some of them. I usually just make Facebook events for the girls’ parties, but I know none of their parents so I went the “old fashioned way” and sent her to camp today with some paper invitations. She already got one rsvp this evening and she’s so excited about it, so of course I’m excited for her too. Always a bit nerve wracking to meet new parents, but I’m glad the party is in more neutral territory and not at our house like it usually is.

My [typically very sweet] 5 year old just stamped her foot at me and keeps saying “then I’m not going to the campsite!” because she’s mad I told her she couldn’t have a snack yet. I guess it’s gonna be one of those days with her 😅

As I’m writing this she approached me with her arms crossed and said straight faced and deadpan, “I thought you cared about me.” 🤣

I desperately need to start packing for this camping trip this weekend but between working, housework, not sleeping well and kid appointments/activities every night this week, I fear I am dead inside. We just got home from Violet’s gymnastics session, kids are fed and we’re in for the night and I just can’t bring myself to do one more damn thing. So, cramming it in tomorrow and Saturday morning it is!

For real, it has felt like such a long week. But I’m looking forward to the weekend getaway with my husband and girlies. I worked the last two weekends and work the next two after this before our next camping trip. So I really, really need this to feel like a good little break.

Side note: Violet was doing flips on the bars by herself for the first time at gymnastics tonight and it was super cool to see her accomplish something new! She also is getting the hang of doing little backflips by herself. Watching the girls grow and become their own people with their own hobbies and talents is definitely a big highlight of being their mom.

Ok yall my period is still late but I took a test and I’m in the clear lol. Thank goddddddd.

What are we doing for our kids for music streaming?

Ivy’s birthday is coming up and Matt and I are trying to figure out what to gift her that would allow her to have freedom to listen to the music she likes/discover new music/etc. What devices are we using for music for the kids? What music streaming services are best for kids? All that jazz.

My period is officially late and I’m exhausted and nauseas as hell and I’m really in my head about it, friends 😬 I don’t have a test here to rule out what I’m obviously in my head about, but like… my husband had the snip so I should be good lol. I know it’s not impossible but definitely not probable and my body is most likely just playing games but oh my god. I need this bitch to show up yesterday so I can stop feeling paranoid.

Just registered the girls for the next school year and it’s really hitting me hard that Violet is going to kindergarten 🥲
