wdym its been 6 years since I got into 13 reasons why and im only now learning the town was called Crestmont? I thought that was just the name of the cinema???? I used to just call it Evergreen?? I never really knew what the actual town was called.......
It's actually unclear in the show what the name of the town is - I don't think it is mentioned by name in the first season. (And in the book the town is unnamed).
The Crestmont Theater is mentioned a lot in the first season but Evergreen isn't mentioned until the second season.
In S2, the lawsuit is against the Evergreen county school division. And no mentions of Evergreen on its own. The Crestmont Theater is mentioned a few times. No references to the town being Crestmont.
But in S3 Ani actually says "We just got to Evergreen last April." and that's when it seems the characters start referring to the town as Evergreen.
And S4 has many references to Evergreen as a town. In episode S4E2, there are two references, one when they visit the college and someone says "I can't believe I've lived in Evergreen my whole life and never been here" and later in the episode: "There's only a few stores in Evergreen that are authorized to sell spray paint."
Dr Ellman mentions growing up in Evergreen in episode 10 and there are more mentions to the Evergreen County Sheriffs.
But confusingly - the wiki says it's set in the fictional town of Crestmont (despite the fact this is never mentioned once in the show - from my transcript searches). The statement is not actually referenced in the article so I'm not sure where they got that information but it's been wrong for a while.
In fanfic, some call it Crestmont (probably because of this wiki article) and some people call it Evergreen like they do in the show.
The TL:DR is don't feel bad because until the third season, they never referenced a town name in the transcripts and in S3 started referring to the town as Evergreen.
Also, if someone can find a reference aside from the wiki that says it is set in Crestmont, I'd love to see it.
