Journal #3
I finally attended my very first practicum! Today, I met with the instructor and the coordinator to look over the lesson plan for today. Today’s lesson plan was SN 2.1: Getting to know each other and TWA unit 1-1.3. The classroom consisted of 22 students, a big group. The class that I went to was group B class as I discussed previously on Marco Polo that there were 84 students in that program.
The class started at 11 A.M. - 2 P.M. I had the chance of seeing classroom management. The instructor was very strict about letting the classroom out of control because there were few students that could sign faster than others. So, to prevent others from feeling put down. I had the chance to co-teach the class and to model a few signs. The age gap was noticeable with signs, the instructor and I signed differently in numbers especially 16-19. We did group activities in getting to know each other following the SN activities than did mingling activity to force the students to meet other students. At the end of class, the TWA unit was introduced briefly, it helped students to reflect on what they learned today and they did have a gesture activity on hobbies.
