“Please don’t tempt me” Juliet gave a firm roll of her eyes before turning back to the familiar voice with a forced smile, not particularly in any rush to piss of Jezebel who is also responsible for their breed within the council. “I was going more for speed rather than precision, I do see my error now but I’m just too frustrated to start again. Endless circle of pain.”

“Well without precision, your speed is going to fall to shit. Everything’s going to keep falling out and you’ll keep shoving it back in and you’ll get no where. But hey--if it’s working for you. I don’t have to help. I personally love watching people struggle. Makes me happy.”

         “I’m sure you did.” Stories followed him wherever he went. If Rider ever decided to retire from his work he’d certainly have options as a bard or wandering troubadour. People couldn’t keep their mouths shut. Strange and unusual often signified something to detest or hate, and while Rider had a sense of where they were coming from he neither understood or agree. But there was little he could do about it. “No, I’m not practicing necromancy.” And he paused, Her choice of words almost made him smirk. Almost. “I’ve mastered it.” Hands sought his pockets, attention still harshly on the far window. The implications of his words meant he’d been practicing when they were more involved. He’d hidden it from her for the exact reason that the chatterboxes in town proved. Nobody accepted it. But it was still his choice, his job.

I’ve mastered it. His words sent a chill down her spine. But the good kind--the kind you felt all the way from the top of your head to the tip of your toes. And she grew instantly annoyed that Rider had been the one to do it. But she supposed he’d once made her feel that way, and a small part of her knew she’d never really let him go. “How long have you been doing this?” she wondered aloud. So many questions roamed her mind, each tugging at her for a bit of attention and thought. “You didn’t--when we were--?” Too many things in her brain slowed down her speech, made her questions cut off. Until one final one screamed out above the rest. “Is this why you didn’t show that night?”

Though she loves her family dearly sometimes Juliet can’t help but wonder if she was in fact adopted, if it wasn’t for the banshee gene she’d be certain of it. She did not posses the amount of generosity that the entire Prattes family seemed to have in abundance, by the time she came around as the youngest of the bunch they must have ran out. And so here she is grumbling and cursing, mostly under her breath, as she attempts to shove the latest donations for the safe house into her little car for the third time. Each time it all falls out Juliet gets worked up more and more, and so when she feels eyes upon her she reacts before her brain can process her words “Eyes at sea level or I pop them out.”

It wasn’t every day that Jezebel tried to be helpful. She was normally too busy to notice, too annoyed to care, too drunk to deal with it. But today was a good day and walking down the street, seeing Juliet struggling with whatever she was trying to fit in the car, the banshee decided to help. So when she approached and Juliet gave her snide little comment, Jezebel’s brows rose. “I’d like to see you try,” she replied in a dry voice (her own way of being funny) before she bent down to help pick up the dropped goods. “You really suck at a packing. You have to put the square things together, get rid of all the empty space between them to make more space. Then shove in all the other stuff that can fill in easily.”

         “You should know — given everything. There are places in the world where the veil between sides is thinner. Some are more naturally occurring, others are made through tragedy. There’s a weakness here, but the spirits aren’t really strong enough to keep pressing.” A hand waved through the air, indicating in the general area of the lighthouse’s upper room. “I think we might have scared them off. Or they’re waiting. They’re attracted to the life, so they call out to anyone who can hear. So long as you’re not screaming we’re good. It’s just normal. Something happened here, but it’s in the past.” Rider avoided explaining the prominent voice that seemed always to be around. For her he had no explanation.

So was he saying he could hear them to? It wasn’t a yes, but it wasn’t a no either. And even though she’d asked, Jezebel didn’t really care to know. It felt like he was talking in riddles--like his words had a deeper meaning she wasn’t completely grasping. But she’d leave it alone. Talking to him was so surreal--given their past. But despite how she felt, she pressed on anyway, leaning against the glass wall. “I heard a lot of stories when you first came to town.” Jezebel had never been one to hold her tongue. And even though everyone else whispered behind his back and was too afraid to ask what they wanted to ask, she still did. “Are you really practicing necromancy?”

                            he straightened up && look around at her words , as though he were expecting something to pop out. he wasn’t one to ignore hunches , especially when it came to her species. but he’d been here for at least fifteen minutes , && nothing worth noting had occurred. “ to be optimistic , perhaps you are just early for whatever event your were expecting. ”  he put a hand over his heart , looking offended. “ i happen to resent both of those options. have you considered i just like visiting scenic places ?  ”

“Right, scenic places,” Jezebel agreed dryly. She did a slow turn around the room, just checking again in case there was something she missed. No--there was definitely nothing here. “Well at least you’re not human,” she muttered, more to herself than to him. Being already dead, Mikhail couldn’t die again. Even if he was staked for whatever reason, her abilities didn’t really work with his kind. She didn’t really want to be in the same place at the same time someone died.

She could tell by the smile. It was rare for Mihaela to smile like she did when she was drinking, just like she was doing now. Even as she laid flat on the couch, her hand lifted to wave off the woman as she teased at her regarding the way she spoke. Wave, wave.  “Never you mind my riddles.”  She twisted her gaze slightly to look after her, watching her shifting around the kitchen, getting them some snacks, her amber eyes studied her. As ghetto as it was.  “Are you surprised, though?”

“Nope, not surprised at all,” Jezebel flashed her another smile as she got their cheese and fruit plate ready. “You get like this after a few drinks. I’m just glad you’re not a lightweight. Gotta keep up with me.” And after getting all of the snacks situated on the plate, she slipped back to the couch and offered it to Mihaela. “So how’s your bond going? I know it was kind of rocky there for a bit.”

She watched after her friend, feeling the buzz of the alcohol they had been drinking. Hence, the deeper riddles than she normally spoke in. At least when she was sober, she made more sense. Mihaela was thankful that Jez understood her, no matter what. Laying back on the couch, stretching her height out, she reached out for her glass.  “Mm.. Fake cheese and fruit. I have clearly made the correct decision tonight. And you and I both knew less drinking was not going to work.”

“Yeah, yeah, I knew,” Jezebel sighed, shaking her head. It wasn’t that she was an alcoholic--life was just more interesting when she drank. “You are getting tipsy, though, I can tell.” The brunette pointed to Mihaela with a smirk. “See your little smile--I can always tell by the smile. And the whole you talking in riddles thing.” With a small laugh, she headed to the kitchen to set the cheese slices on a paper plate along with some strawberries and grapes. It wasn’t a fancy array, but it would work.

Burned amber eyes looked at the woman, her gaze brightening just slightly. They always did understand one another, which was likely why Mihaela was so comfortable around the banshee. It wasn’t always the case, even with her pack.  “You certainly know how to raise the bar higher for those things, my dear.”

“Hey--you gotta do what you gotta do,” she said, finishing off her drink. “So how long did that less drinking plan last? Two days tops?” She slid off of the couch and made her way to the kitchen, opening the fridge. “I have strawberries and grapes and a little bit of cheese. But not the fancy kind, the single slice kind. And not a thing else to eat. You hungry?”

She lifted her drink up, her face contorting into something akin to understanding for the woman she was talking to. Jez worried for Mihaela? That’s fair. There were a great many people that worried about Mihaela.  “If you were hoping for reassurance about that, you are quite the overachiever.”

Jezebel shrugged. Talking to Mihaela was always like talking in riddles. But they could understand each other and so it wasn’t so bad. She liked it, if she was honest. “I’ve always been a go-getter.”

“I wonder about the mental state of you...” Jezebel threw a look at Mihaela. It was purely a joke, but from the tone in her voice, no one would be able to tell unless the knew Jezebel very well--like Mihaela for instance.

                           “ may i be so bold as to ask what exactly you were expecting ?  ”  he asked from the other side of the observatory , leaning against one of the metal bars && looking out the window. “ this lighthouse is not all that spooky , after all. ”  he considered also asking her why she was talking to herself in such a place , but quickly decided he didn’t want to open that can of worms. so he simply fell silent after that , though he was disappointed his peace && quiet had been interrupted.

What was she expecting? She didn’t really expect to find a dead body up here. But then again she hadn’t expected the whispers in her mind to completely vanish like they did. With a frustrated sigh, Jezebel shook her head. “More than this...” She shined her flashlight over the empty space save for a few forgotten boxes. “Do you have some stereotype you’re trying to match--vampire lurking the shadows? Or are you really this antisocial?”
