Nepenthes thorelii x aristolochioides update. First pic is from yesterday, last two pics are from when the plant arrived on 11/4/25.

I was watering it the other day and just came to the realization that the plant finally produced pitchers that were larger than the largest one it originally came with. It took a while for this one to really settle in, but it certainly has and is a very prolific pitcherer now. Still has the two growth points that branch out with pitchers that look like cute little lanterns dangling off a tree.

Truncata time.

Nepenthes naga x truncata (C), CAR-0178 is the smaller one which just opened up a new pitcher. It's a consistently slow grower but the pitchers on this one do last for a very long time, and this newest pitcher is quite a substantial jump in size over the last one.

I then compared it to the Nepenthes truncata (JB x Pasian Red) CAR-0205 which also gave me new pitcher a few weeks ago. It too was also a big jump up, and measures about a girthy 6.75 inches from the top of the lid to bottom.

Last pic is of that truncata from last August when it first arrived. It grew up quite a bit!

I gave in and decided to get some pings! All came from Rainbow Carnivorous Plants. In order:

Pinguicula agnata x gypsicola Pinguicula ehlersiae Pinguicula hemiepiphytica x cyclosecta

They sent me two ehlersiaes and two hemiepiphytica x cyclosecta. Decided to plant the ehlersiaes together since they're small but separated the hemiepiphytica x cyclosecta.

These are my first pings ever! I had my heart set on the ehlersiae but ended up liking the agnata x gypsicola the most, especially now seeing it in person. My soil medium is about equal parts milled long fiber sphagnum moss, vermiculite, perlite, and pumice.

Nepenthes villosa x edwardsiana JH-322.01 from Florae.

Recent pitcher that opened not long ago. These pitchers have a consistently interesting shape to them, at least compared to my other Neps. It's almost as if the mouth is "squished" a bit, so they all look wider compared to the usual teardrop shaped mouths of my other Neps.

Seedgrown Nepenthes ventricosa that came as a freebie from Ferocious Foliage.

After settling in, this plant was incredibly vigorous and produced a lot of pitchers. It has since slowed down quite a bit and despite being so young, already produced a new basal growth.

In my experience so far, basals suck quite a bit of energy from the main plant, so this one probably won't be looking pretty again anytime soon until that growth is a little bigger and more self-sufficient.

Nepenthes ventricosa (C) X 'Porcelain Giant' from Alpenglow Exotic Plants. Last two pics are of when they arrived, and first two pics are right after planting them.

I paid for only one plant, but Alpenglow was kind enough to send a second plant free of charge. I planted the larger one in a green pot and the smaller one in a yellow pot, both with live sphagnum moss as a top dressing.

I have a bit of an obsession with porcelains (and really ventricosas in general), so I'm trying to collect as many variants as possible, at least as many as I can fit in my growing area. At the moment I have this, a supposed Longwoods clone (still waiting for it to pitcher to confirm), and a Wistuba clone (that's been temperamental for a while now, probably needs a repot).

Nepenthes edwardsiana x macrophylla, seed grown from Jeremiah Harris. It's by far the highest quality and most robust seedling I've ever received. Settled into its new home almost immediately. It also came with a second growth point, which is still actively growing! This is the most valuable Nep in my collection at the moment and I'm definitely going to be treating it like royalty.

Another recent basal pitcher from the Nepenthes ventricosa MT black peristome. This one has more of that curvaceous hourglass figure that's typical of ventricosa than the previous basal pitcher.

The previous basal pitcher opened with a burgandyish colored peristome (that's now fairly dark but not "black"), whereas this one opened up with more of a bright candy red. It's very striking under sunlight.

There's a slight nick on the peristome. That's my fault; I was overzealous at trying to lift up the lid to fertilize it on the same schedule as everybody else while the pitcher was still opening and damaged it slightly as a result. 🥲

Nepenthes sibuyanensis x (veitchii x lowii) BE-4614 on the right, it's "sibling" BE-3986 on the left.

The pitchers on both of these seem highly variable. Going all the way from super neon pink, to deep rust red, and everything in between, among both of them. I'm wondering if their positioning on my little rack and varying sun exposure is influencing how the pitchers end up looking. That doesn't really seem to affect my other Nepenthes quite as much as these two.

Spring is almost here, so it's time to expand my collection of Sarracenia.

This is a Sarracenia psittacina var. okefenokeensis 'floating giant' Marion Co, GA from Mike Wang. One of two Sarracenia that I got from him this time around, though he also sent me 3 bonus Sarrs! Last pic is from him and should be representative of how this Sarr will look like all grown up.

I've always wanted a psittacina for my collection, particularly the "golfbalensis", but I think this one will still do nicely.

Unfortunately for me this Sarracenia has passed away. My other new Sarrs (and Darlingtonia) of the season are doing just fine, but this one seemed like it needed to be kept a lot moister than the others.

It had a die back after several days of no watering (which is the normal schedule I keep for the other Sarrs/Darlingtonia). It managed to survive that die back and started great regrowth for a few weeks, but this latest die back was unfortunately permanent. Rhizome is mushy now so there's no chance of recovery.

Considering how this psittacina can be literally found floating in water in its native environment, I'm probably going to consider doing a different set up for it the next time, if I choose to try this one again.

Nepenthes sibuyanensis x (veitchii x lowii) BE-4614, on top of its "sibling" BE-3986. Pics taken today and yesterday.

BE-4614 used to produce deep rust red pitchers that were a sharp contrast to BE-3986's very hot pink pitchers. But this newest pitcher has more of an interesting gradient between a very orangey lower half a rust reddish top half.

BE-4614 seems to have fully acclimated to its environment, while BE-3986 is still slowly getting back to its original size, pitchers wise.

Sarracenia purpurea ssp. venosa "White Ghost" that recently came from Crabcore Carnivores. Really fast shipping and super cheap.

I had a regular old plain jane purpurea in my old collection from over a decade ago, and for quite a while I wasn't actually a big fan of purpureas. But times have changed and I'm seeing a lot of crazy looking purpurea hybrids out there nowadays, and I'm a lot more interested in them now than I was in the past.

White Ghost as the name implies, supposedly has this extremely pale white coloration to it that makes it sensitive to being grown in full outdoor light, contrary to Sarracenias in general. Crabcore's apparently been growing his in full sun, which probably explains why this one is a lot pinker than your typical White Ghost. I've heard a lot of conflicting opinions on their sunlight tolerance, but for now I'm going to keep this one in similar conditions (full sun) and see how it fares.
