shaundi dumpster diving behind freckle bitchs finding the boss who passed out in there after getting kicked out at 3am for being drunk
I love the way you think of everyone in the series. It’s so refreshing :) Just for fun, what socials do u think the Saints would use, if they are?
:o like the characters? thank you!! sr is one of the very few things (maybe the only?) where i genuinely like so much of its cast
hmm okay so lin would probably go to internet cafes in her spare time. her online hangout would’ve been mechanic forums but she probably ended up blacklisted from so many of them after getting into arguments with sexists (of course all the moderators sided against her). aisha was definitely huge on myspace, it’s probably how she was found by kingdom come. johnny is a facebook guy through and through. 100% “can you watch them while i go smoke,” selling shit nobody wants on marketplace, and posting directly onto aisha’s wall when he wants to chat. shaundi started out posting shit on youtube, no coherent theme or upload schedule, just vibes. then when vine blew up she and pierce had a few hits. now she just has an assistant who posts photoshoots with emoji captions onto her official accounts. her comment sections are 90% p0rnbots. pierce went from vine to youtube but he kind of fell off. has some collabs with other ytbers that got huge views but his original material isn’t received with much interest. troy has a private instagram account with 4 followers where he posts pictures of cans of beer with no caption
the abandonment of dex and troy as characters just created a domino effect that led to the downfall of the narrative i’m so fucking serious. this isn’t just me being me there is a very clear line between the roles they played and how the stories started to become a lot more focused on becoming more generally marketable to a wider audience rather than building up what they already had
which, to be clear, i’m fine with on paper. i think in theory being able to expand the scope of things so more people can become interested in your story sounds like a generally good thing. however when you lean too far into not wanting to isolate new players, you risk isolating the people who are already there and get shit like killing off your most popular character and then sheepishly having to bring him back in the most contrived way possible a game later.
and to bring this back to dex and troy’s roles specifically: removing the two surviving traitors to your protagonist ends up removing a lot of tension and potential for nuance. if you effectively remove everyone who opposes or has clearly specific thoughts on your character that isn’t a specifically written antagonist meant for you to get rid of, you just end up watering everything down. it’s frustrating to see srtt consider leaning into the saints doubting and even hating the boss only for sriv to be like nahhh they’re all besties dance party🎉 and for the reboot to come off that and build their theme around a cheesy power of friendship narrative. it’s inane. it’s mind-boggling.
sr1 and even sr2 (tho to a slightly lesser extent) had clear power dynamics that made for much more engaging interpersonal relationships. the boss cared about dex and troy and to have those two betray them makes for genuine internal conflict. and given dex and troy’s respective positions, and especially with the boss’ rise as the leader of the saints, it makes for real external conflict as well (tho i wish sr2 had done more with this).
we see srtt and sriv try to create some tension in this way but it all gets resolved immediately and feels as if it has no real weight or impact to it. and the reboot is just a joke when it comes character conflict like this but for the sake of what i’m talking about i wanna focus more on srtt/sriv cus this is dealing with the same cast the whole way through. it’s just frustrating and i’m probably a broken record about it but god to throw away not only two interesting characters who did not get the time to shine but then to throw away the whole world itself on top of it…come on.
viola and kiki
GOD playa dying and aisha surviving. johnny can have one or the other but never both
the older i get the more i think lin really was naive. like sure she had courage and focus but she also had no idea what she was doing or how bad it was going to be
i just know johnny had a wispy little moustache when he was 16
still thinking abt troy as paul walker/brian o'conner and how I've been toying with an au of troy being revealed to be a cop to the saints and he turns against the police to help the saints (desperate shootout maybe or like a huge raid? haven't gotten that far yet) so now they know and are mistrustful but he can't go back to the cops either anymore
idk I really like "secret infiltrator who becomes endeared to the ppl they spy on and ends up transferring their loyalty away from their original compatriots before being found out and having to save the new ppl they care abt while being deeply mistrusted"
whoops sorry for rambling in your inbox like this I have many thoughts abt troy sometimes
RIGHHHT he’s so brian in the first movie coded. i love that idea… him being forced to choose between his ideals and his friends and choosing the latter, but now they don’t trust him… it’s like he has to give up everything with that one decision, but abandoning them now after they took him in just isn’t an option. it makes you think like. what if troy joined the force to find a purpose. to find a brotherhood? but he accidentally found it in the saints and just can’t let go..
& ramble as much as you want !! god knows i love talking abt stuff. speaking of talking abt stuff i’m gonna go on a tangent now but troy really brings something to the table that no other saint does and it’s so under-utilised… would it have killed them to add a little complexity, a little flavour. it’s clear he has a sense of justice with the way he talks to vogel in 2, and how he doesn’t want to get involved with drugs in 1 etc etc. and he doesn’t like killing or attacking the cops so there’s obviously loyalty there. but he kept the boss on life support? he let dex walk away even after he killed monroe. he doesn’t even acknowledge the saints’ return in sr2. like why was none of this explored? i need to get inside his head and figure out what’s going on
johnny should have more tattoos with each game. like why would he stop getting them
Playa when they wake up from the coma and see what's left of the gang
wait pre-sr1 johnny with his whole hair bleached
Boss is pigeon toed is Canon TM you've always kinda been able to see it in their gait when they walk during cutscenes in sr2 but i definitely didn't realize what exactly it was until now
for your consideration: transmasc johnny in basketball shorts, sports bra & white tank top. and a chain of course
