Rockaway Beach locates in the Rockaway Peninsula, belong to Rockaway National Recreational Area. It is New York City’s southernmost waterfront areas, so Rockaway Beach become to the gates of New York City. Before the ending of Cold War, the Fort Tilden was used to protect New York City away from the enemies. The fort Belonged to the system called New York Harbor Defenses. After the wars, New York City needed to face the sea level rising problem. Rockaway Beach is a part of the city’s plan, called Coastal Protection, which mean to reinforce the beach areas to keep the city away from the flood.
