Hello, scrunkly white boy, I have a question:
I know there are some lgbtphobic Satanist groups / accounts out there. Do you have any red flag to look for? Any accounts off the top of your head that you'd block on sight?
I don't consider myself a Satanist, but I'm a huge religion / philosophy / belief nerd, so I want to learn as much as I can, and possibly interact with the community to learn personal experiences with the belief. I just don't want to support or encourage those which might be bigoted.
You don't have to answer this if it makes you uncomfortable, but I trust your judgement, and felt you were a good guy to ask. Hope you're well! I'm sorry if this was annoying and thank you for your time.
Before anything else, one of the core tenets of Satanism is bodily autonomy. Both of the major Satanist groups (Church of Satan and The Satanic Temple) are rather left-leaning, the latter of which contributing to abortion rights.
On the Church of Satan's website, they have a FAQ, including one pertaining to their stance on LGBT rights.
"Q: What does the Church of Satan think about homosexuality?
A: We fully accept all forms of human sexual expression between consenting adults. The Church of Satan has always accepted gay, lesbian, bisexual and asexual members since its beginning in 1966. This is addressed in the chapter “Satanic Sex” in The Satanic Bible by Anton Szandor LaVey."
They also go on to express acceptance of transgender, asexual, and kinky people.
The Satanic Temple has some similar philosophies which can be seen in the 7 Satanic Tenets, emphasizing the importance of bodily autonomy and compassion for other humans.
Any group that claims to be Satanist yet undermines the value of bodily autonomy, sexual freedom, or compassion for other humans, is most likely an edgy cult or flat-out people who don't understand the point of Satanism to begin with.
