Art vs. Fashion
The Brian and Barry Building  & Alejandro Ingelmo Shoes
Milano does not only have beautiful antique architectural wonders, Milano is also known for its contemporary and experimental design. The Brian and Barry Building is one example. It is a 12 level luxury department store, selling everything that is trendy and âin- fashionâ. Despite the fact that The Brian and Barry Building sells modern merchandise, the building itself is an eye- catcher. With its contemporary design and architecture, every floor is unique and made up of a lot of modern materials: glass and steel.
The architecture of the building would also be a great inspiration to designer collections. The Brian and Barry building could be an inspiration for Alejandro Ingelmoâs Fall 2014/2015 womenâs shoe collection (see images provided). The architectural structure complements Ingelmoâs architectural angel trademark well. The metal âcrossâ construction within the building directly reflects the structure of the high heels. Both structures run parallel and opposite to each other and seem stable, yet elegant.
In addition to the similar structure, the material optic is similar too. The combination of white steel and glass looks like the metallic optic of Alejandro Ingelmoâs high heel.

Chiesa du son Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore & MSGM
Today we visited one of the oldest and most prestigious religious complexes in Milano. The Monastero Maggiore (Chiesa du son Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore). The church has fascinating architecture; it is made up of a fusion of many medieval styles and rich materials. One of these rich materials, Marble, seems to be an inspiration for MSGMâs Fall 2014 Menâs Collection.
The beauty and structure of marble seems to be an inspiration for MSGMâs collection. Not only does marble have a nice appearance and structure, it is also a good inspiration for a camouflage âlookâ. Similar to the marble in the Church, the texture and beauty of marble is used in the collection to create an effect. The marble stands out and lets both the church and the collection pieces âshineâ.
Taking a close look at the marble elements in the church, you can see a clear correlation with the marble print on the jacket and pants. The outlines and patterns are very similar and seem to convey a camouflage optic. The antique marble from the church seems to be fused with modern influences to create the perfect look for MSGMâs men collection.

Cimitero Monumentale di Milano & Eric Beamon
A lot of inspiration can be pulled from historic artworks and monuments. Especially, many accessories are directly related to antiques. While walking around the Cimitero Monumentale di Milano, today, I found a lot of possible inspirations for designer jewelry collections. Cimitero Monumentale is one of the two largest cemeteries in Milano and is well known for its artistic and beautiful monuments and artworks.
Taking a close look at some of Eric Beamon jewelry collection pieces, you can clearly see a link between the wrapping crystals and one of many graveyard stones at the Milano cemetery. When taking a close look at both images you can see how the woman wraps her arms around the cross and this can also be seen on the jewelry. The crystals warp around the âstatementâ part of the necklace, seeming as if it protects something important. In addition, both pieces symbolize âreligionâ in some way or another. Moreover, both the necklace and the gravestone convey unity and peace. The major emphasis on detail and beauty of the graveyard tomb stone is clearly reflected in Eric Beamon's necklace.Â

FENDI & DIRK BIKKEMBERGS MENâS FASHION SHOWÂ
Today, I think, I had my highlight of the study abroad trip! I was invited to join Fashion Times.it to two shows for Milano Menâs Fashion Week: Dirk Bikkembergs and Fendi S/S 15. It was an absolutely breathtaking experience. It was great to see the runway shows, the fashionable outfits that the guest wore and the atmosphere and ambience that the events âcreatedâ.
Dirk Bikkembergs show was very entertaining and well presented. The show started off with models extended in free-style swimming positions wearing tight swimming uniforms and diving goggles. The collection was very clear and seemed to be inspired by triathlon sports. The looks seemed classy and sporty with fresh pops of color in neonâs and brightâs.
Fendiâs fashion show was very sophisticated and very prestigious. Amazing looks passed by on the runway. Especially, the accessories were a highlight in Fendiâs S/S 15 collectionâŠÂ colorful shoes and backpacks completed the menâs outfits.
You can see some of Fendiâs and Dirk Bikkembergs S/S 15 collection on the pictures below.Â

Pitti Immagine Uomo
Welcome to the ârealâ world of fashion... this is how I felt when walking through one of the biggest fashion trade shows in Florence this week.
Pitti Immagine Uomo is a buyerâs heaven for everything related to new upcoming designers, fashion trends, inspirations and street styles. It has been said that Pitti Uomo is âThe worldâs most important platform for clothing and accessory collections and for launching new projects in fashionâ (Pitti Immagine).
I have never seen so much fashion on one spot before - it was breathtaking :) I am very glad that we were able to attend this incredible tradeshow. It was very interesting to visit Gants, GUM, and Happiness Brandâs showrooms âŠwe learned about their brand, fashion and upcoming trends and collections.
Especially, the vast amount of street fashion that we saw was impressive. Every one had their own style and distinct characteristics, but in the end it showed that we all complemented each other and fit together. It was a completion of all inspirations and looks for the upcoming 2015 fashion trends.
