Back In The U.S.

A special thank you to everyone that followed me religiously over the past month as I explored the fine corners of Italy. Now that I have been cultured, being back in the U.S. is quite interesting... The first thing I noticed was that everyone here is SO BIG - not necessarily obese, just really tall and big-boned. And I can't help but feel a little discouraged about the fashion sense here... but maybe that's just because I'm back in the "wrong" part of the states as far as fashion goes. Hahaha... Well, thank you again! I wish every one of my peers the best in their future endeavors. CIAO!

It's amazing how fast a month can fly by. It's feels like it was just yesterday when I found out I was accepted into the program and I started a countdown on my phone. Since day one at Johnson & Wales, this study abroad trip was my aspiration as I went through the first three years. I have never wanted anything so much before and getting into the program was a dream come true. Being the winning group for our project with designer Mauro Gasperi, was honorable and I gained so much from that experience. As sad as it is to see the trip come to a close, I have learned so much not only about the industry but about myself. I have grown tremendously and know I can go into the work force with a lot to offer. Spending time in Milan and Florence was amazing and I also was able to visit Venice and Lake Como on my days off. I met so many crucial and interesting people from the industry in Italy and I hope to return back here one day to network with more. I will continue to blog about more experiences I have as living in Italy has changed me for the better. Ciao! Xoxo Kat

Jersey Boys

Yet again being adventurous, me and a bunch of girls decided to go see a movie while being in Milano. Many would think that this is weird but it was very fascinating to experience. We all decided to go see the movie Jersey Boys which many have seen in the United States. Something that caught my interest was the fact that the movie had Italian voice overs and they did not match up with the American timing of words. For example, often times the character would stop moving his mouth because he was done speaking but the length of Italian words were longer. At first it was very funny to watch but obviously did not want to interrupt the other movie goers. Although I had no idea what was going on, it was still a really fun experience and will be definitely seeing Jersey Boys when I return back to the States. Sadly the end is getting closer :(

Italian Cinema

Going to my first Italian movie definitely was an experience. Walking into The Space Cinema I didn't know what to expect. Was there going to be popcorn? What kind of candy do they have? Even though the popcorn may not have had as much butter or salt as it does in America, everything was pretty similar (besides the seats not having cupholders) I didn't really understand that. The movie we saw was "Big Wedding" with some of my favorite actors including Katherine Heigl, Amanda Seyfried, Robert De Niro, and Diane Keaton. Seeing an American movie with Italian voice-overs was quite comical. Even though I wasn't exactly sure of what was going on, it was sort of interesting to guess and interpret in my own way what was happening in the movie. I'm excited to go back to America and watch the American version. Overall, I'm glad I got to experience the movies in another country.

One of the many things I have learned while being here is that I love macaroons. Spending the afternoon at the Brera District, we stopped at a small cafe that sold gelato and I was able to try some of these Italian delicacies. I had chocolate, caramel and vanilla. So yummy! Xoxo Kat
