I think a lot of people ran with NJ (?) saying that they used a sample and assumed this was the sample.
This isn’t about this video, it just reminded me of how many people seem truly iffy with Jimin going viral often or getting a lot of attention. It’s definitely not everyone, I think a lot of people are absolutely loving this, but there’s definitely some who you can tell just aren’t comfortable with it.

I see a lot of similarities between Swim and Come Back To Me and wonder if Namjoon’s lyric writing just doesn’t work as well in English. They both have really simple, repetitive lyrics and are supposed to be more of a meditation on movement through life. People just consider Come Back To Me as a deeper song because 1) Namjoon wrote/performed it and Army is conditioned to think everything he says is really profound and 2) The video was great and showed a much more interesting story than the lyrics. If Swim had a better video we might’ve felt something more. But mostly I think it needed to be in Korean for him to fully express what Keep Swimming meant to them. When he was in the songwriting sessions in the documentary, he looked like he was having such a hard time explaining in English what he wanted the songs to be. We think of him as being so fluent but holding a conversation is different from writing a pop song. And then factoring in what all the members could easily sing. I like Swim a lot so this isn’t a complaint. Just I wonder if there was a way to get closer to the vision he had.
I also agree with this. In fact, I think you can see this in other parts of the album as well.
For example, in they don’t know ‘bout us. I know NJ acknowledged the double meaning of the “you make me weak” line, but the way Jimin initially phrased the explanation stood out to me. When you listen to stuff like that, it sounds romantic or very loving, but Jimin said fans make them weak because they essentially suffocate them. They hold them to such a high standard that they have no room to grow.
And I think that’s another example of how we would’ve never gotten the meaning of specific lyrics like this if they hadn’t explained it, and it may have a lot to do with the fact that they simply aren’t English speakers/writers. I mean, think of the amount of lyrics in Korean that need elaborate explanations because the language barrier is so huge between the languages. Now think of those same Korean artists explaining those feelings using English terminology. It probably doesn’t always translate well.

honestly bts' taste in music baffles me sometimes. like they really thought ytc over run bts was a good idea? they really think hooligan is the peak of arirang? they really thought swim was enough to be the title track people have been waiting for years? and then following it up with 2.0 and hooligan. not even doing anything for normal to try to even things out a bit. and thinking one more night is bad when it's really no worse than swim is.
if you asked me what i think bts's taste and preferences are i wouldn't be able to tell you. if you sent me a song and asked if i thought bts would love it or hate it i wouldn't be able to tell you either.
i guess it's what namjoon said, they're 8 different people (i'm counting bang pd too cause he clearly is very involved in making choice here) with very different tastes and goals so things end up being all over the place. and i think solo era made this worse because they all finally had the opportunity to further discover their own preferences and develop their own style which just made them become even more different from each other. so it makes sense that when they tried to come back together things couldn't flow as smoothly as they used to, especially with how rushed the album was.
but i actually think this started before solo era. maybe it's just me but don't the solo songs from mots7 sound way less cohesive then the ones from wings? in wings it seemed like the songs were wings songs first, solo songs second. but in mots7 it seemed more like the songs were more about each member's style than about fitting together in one album. i think mots7 is what would happen if arirang had solo and unit songs, it would be a collection of songs that mostly don't sound like they belong in the same album. and don't get me wrong i like mots7 but compare it to dark and wild or wings and you can see what i mean when i say mots7 lacks cohesion and is kinda all over the place. like who decided to put filter after black swan? actually i won't even complain because i always think it's so funny whenever i listen to that album.
anyway my point is that throughout the years you could see the members slowing developing their own styles and simultaneously becoming more different. i think this was always gonna happen. in their earlier years it was easier to just be one entity and keep things cohesive (see dark and wild being mostly just hiphop and rnb instead of a bunch of unrelated genres) but the more time passed the more the members needed to become their own individuals and that inevitably made it difficult to agree on one single vision.

do you like come over? I like the vocal line parts, but I can't stand yg's verse. I don't know if it's the fact that his verse starts so soon in the song or that I don't like how he sounds in it
Yes! I LOVE Come Over so much and it absolutely deserved to be on the album, or at least a streaming service. It’s such a beautiful song, and while I agree that the vocal line once again stand out, for me personally, I think the rap line’s quality balances the vocal line better than in Hooligan.
namjoon is too obsessed with people disliking arirang and not understanding what they're trying to say but then he goes and praises jungkook and hobi for creating hooligan (and giving props again to bang pd and the company for liking it so much) when it's one of the most nonsense songs in their discography 😭 it's kind of funny. we have jimin creating like crazy which is one of the most beloved chapter 2 songs but they won't take his opinion into account when he says that swim wouldn't be a good title (he was right). i wish there was just more balance between the weight of the member's opinions because regardless if they say that they all contributed to the direction of the album, it's obvious that several of the members opinions are the most important between the members and the company. wish they would give jimin's opinions more weight.
As he said, the members and the fans and everyone have their own tastes. They’re entitled to their own opinions and it’s not that I think it’s a bad song. I’m just appalled by how much he (and Hobi, and I guess Tae as well?) hate the song.
I also didn’t really get what he was saying about Swim’s lyrics. In the most non offensive way possible, I find Swim the most generic song on the album. One More Night also sounds very generic, but it has some unique parts and it’s faster and more upbeat, so it’ll obviously be more popular. But I don’t get what about Swim’s lyrics people didn’t get? I thought they were straightforward. It’s just the at I’m not sure what more I was supposed to get from the song.
Also, I love 2.0 and I’m grateful that it made it to the album, but I’m so tired of hearing that the vocal line is consistently u comfortable with what they’re given to sing. I mean, man, it’s been YEARS of the same exact complaints regarding vocal line members being given parts that they’re not comfortable with. I don’t get why the producers aren’t adjusting these things to fit them more vocally and make it healthier and more comfy for them.
ehh the context in which Taehyung was calling him manly seems very unserious, it was literally about not eating cake. I would say he's manly for other reasons not this absurd sexist idea of eating sweets making you more girly. but really Jimin is a cis man, crying about him being misgenedered is just ridiculous, like it's truly not a real issue, and it's not like people actually think he uses different pronouns, it's just small part of twitter armys that joke about it. and I really don't like how you can say most crazy shit if it references heterosexual sex but if it's about sth queer you are getting called perverted degenerate.
I know Tae was joking, but I was just pointing it out. It’s not just that people only joke about Jimin looking pretty like a girl, but also being all macho because of his dietary preferences. 😂 But honestly, SK is really, really confusing and absurd when it comes to their standards of what is manly and what isn’t.

The real problem is that nuance is dead. People don't know the line between joking around about Jimin being pretty like a girl or being my number one noona or going to the extreme like calling him a girl in a semi derogatory / sexual way or because you're a weirdo shipper who can't ship a mlm ship without making one of them the girl and subsequently act like he's 'less than' because of it (a double whammy of internalised homophobia and misogyny 😞😞😞)
So everyone takes an extreme stance like you can't even breathe a joke about it now without pjms getting on your case but if you let it slide, trust some jkkr is going to come around and make an extremely uncomfortable joke and make you regret it. Anyway I just do what I like (like Jimin) because I have situational awareness unlike some people. Sorry to flex but you have it too so good for us

Let jimin define his own gender, i don’t understand why pjms are always all up in arms when someone uses a feminine label to address jimin. If he doesn’t have a problem with it, who gave them the right to police people about it? Jimin is capable of speaking for himself if he’s uncomfortable… these pjms always act like it’s their job to “protect” this grown man from feminine labels without realising they’re themselves projecting their beliefs onto jimin by being offended by them. You don’t know what jimin thinks about these things so why are you going around acting like jimin’s spokesperson when he’s just a stranger to you…
I don’t think people should call him those things seriously, because he is a grown ass man after all. He’s also really not as “feminine” as people make him out to be. He’s very pretty, has soft features and a very kind speaking tone, and he has certain traits that are seen as more traditionally feminine, like a high EQ. But he’s still a dude and he acts like it. Taehyung literally said the other day that he’s very manly.
But I think in the effort to protect Jimin from people who fetishize his gender identity, PJMs are just going way too far and are now making innocent jokes illegal. I obviously wouldn’t call him unnie or any of those things to his face, but lightly joking about how he looks like a doll or he’s pretty like a girl on the internet should really not be taken so personally. Direct that energy to the people who actually misgender him and make fetishized edits of him. Or those who speak about him in a way that has been used to degrade women historically.
