Super interesting talk about trees in the cities as a source of food. Something that is super related to my project in Beirut.

Looking for images that show the urgency of the changing of colours I went to look through this blog and found the following images. It is very difficult to find the images that tell these stories.

Amazing website of which the Netflix documentary is part, with amazing images that I can definitely use for my project.

Good film to watch, it is mostly focussed on the human rights part of the industry but it also shows some parts of the health effects on the human and world.

Interesting project to see the more indirect relation between the material on the boat and the ecosystem that the boats are in.

Super interesting and super beautiful project that also deals with colour and waste streams.

Some images that were the first try outs to show the future of colour. What colors will be available in the future and what would be the monetary system around it? What would it mean to shop not only on the material and the people who made it but also on the color the fabric has?
Artist and professor John Sabraw is turning industrial acid runoff into striking pigments and paints. In his talk, Sabraw shares how he's inspired by southern Ohio's rivers and streams to turn environmental catastrophe into works of beauty.

Amazing project that has been an inspiration when looking into the waste streams around me. It was also a starting point for me to see if it would be possible to create a paint from the waste streams of the sewage plant.
TED Talk Subtitles and Transcript: Natsai Audrey Chieza is a designer on a mission -- to reduce pollution in the fashion industry while creating amazing new things to wear. In her lab, she noticed that the bacteria Streptomyces coelicolor makes a striking red-purple pigment, and now she's using it to develop bold, color-fast fabric dye that cuts down on water waste and chemical runoff, compared with traditional dyes. And she isn't alone in using synthetic biology to redefine our material future; think -- "leather" made from mushrooms and superstrong yarn made from spider-silk protein. We're not going to build the future with fossil fuels, Chieza says. We're going to build it with biology.

Inspiring Ted Talk about alternatives to chemical dye.
Farmer Portraits document the livelihood and variety of farmers who worked the soil of the Noordoostpolder during Atelier NL's residency. Methodically visiting up to five farms a day, Lonny and Nadine dug potatoes, rode tractors, and witnessed the birth of a calves. By the end of their residency, 80 farmers had shared their livelihoods and hospitality, providing personal stories to complement the history the land. Each farmer wrote down their name, parcel number and the type of vegetable they grow. Many of the farmers who befriended by Atelier NL no longer reside in the polder, which has been taken over by larger producers in recent years. Paul Scala, an Australian photographer based in London, captured vivid working portraits of 42 of the farmers that Atelier NL got to know during their time in the polder.

This is to show that good pictures can make so much of the project. The portraits add an extra layer to the story that they want to tell.

In the beginning of the semester I visited a mill that is the only one left that is making dyestuff and the miller was really interested in my project and he was telling me about this project that had been done earlier at their mill and I think it is a interesting project.
The Tilewall is based on the methodical collection of clay deposits from each farm plot in the Noordoostpolder region of the Netherlands. The map corresponds to the structure of the region and acts as a visual translation of the material content of the land. At the invitation of Jurgen Bey and Rianne Makkink, Nadine and Lonny worked with Noordoostpolder farmers for a full year, digging on their land, participating in their work, and gathering material. Each tile corresponds to a farmer's field and its regional plot number. The Tilewall is a physical archive of the various types of earth found on each of these farms. The search for clay and understanding bonded them with the material itself - and with the owners of the land in this unique region reclaimed from the sea.

Inspiring project from Atelier NL, I really like their work. The visual storytelling they do is an inspiration for my own projects.

A good website for information on the traditional pigments and their origin. Super interesting to read these stories.

Some more information on the effect of chemicals that come from dye on the ecosystems in water. This is something that I can translate in a infographic and in showing pictures of the coral.
I have also watched the documentary Chasing Coral that gives a lot of important information on corals and their extinction.

This is the Uralkali Potash Mine #2 in Berezniki, Russia. It is one of the places that they mine for raw material. It is a beautiful picture but that also means that we will lose these beautiful places if we keep mining. It is a difficult balance I need to find in depicting these beautiful places without it just being a nice picture.
