Formative review preparations
Realising that my ideas are not coming together, feeling behind due to illness and lack of focus. Mindmapping my ideas helped to sort out what I am thinking for the review tomorrow-
Perhaps- important word, this is used to question the objects that I find, their story, personification is important
VISUAL qualities- what is happening- use of stamps, type, handwritten text, paper sculpture- look at communication, letters, envelopes, parcels, luggage tags. Colour- muted tones, inks, small splashes of colour, dulled by weathering, elements etc
CONCEPT- photograph lost objects around the city, clothing, accessories, objects etc, use these to illustrate moments of ‘perhaps’ using poetry to think about why they might have ended up at that particular place, realms of fantasy as the idea gets less likely. Book out camera for filming in LBMS, projection still important, record markmaking, abstraction?
Postcards- paint, write poem, send them to myself, return them to the studio- lots of these? collection of them suspended in constellation based on where I found the objects- use GPS locations from google maps
Poems becoming unreadable- writing lines from the poems in inks, taking them back to locations where I found items and leaving them in the rain to soak up, then bringing them back to the studio to dry, picking up aspects of their surroundings- work back into them to further abstract them? some will become unreadable
Painting poetry on found papers- part of the fabric of Birmingham, newspapers, free magazines, cardboard, packing paper, envelopes etc. create wall collage of these visual ideas.
