I watched her closely as she lay flat on her back admiring the night sky. The soft breeze flowed through her hair and I wasnt sure if it was her appearance or the cold wind nipping at my skin that gave me chills. The beautiful starry night reflected in her eyes and shone so brightly they could illuminate every shadow that threated to conceal the evils of twilight. “The concept of heaven and hell baffles me.” she finally graced me with her beautiful mind proccessing each of her ellaborate enigmatic thoughts. “How so?” I could help but smile. Not the usual smirk I plaster over my face when I find something complacent. A full on, ear to ear grin that left my cheeks aching. “If heaven existed, and humans are said to go there when they die, that would mean heaven is host to non-physical bodies like the souls. If so what do souls do in heaven? We are told to follow rules and if we comply then we will be rewarded with eternal hapiness in the afterlife. What does a soul do to achieve such strong emotions? How is the soul able to distinguish the feelings we have in the afterlife. I thought we’ve established that emotions are considered part of the human body; the receptive neurons controlled by the brain. So wouldnt a brain be required to experiemce the emotions its promised?” Her eyes were shut by now, exhaustion taking over her body. “But the brain itself is a physical object,” she continued with a yawn. “And to host the brain that gives us the promised emotions, heaven would need to be a physical place.” I nodded along thoughtfully. In this moment, as night and day overlapped and became one for an instant, as the stars faded into the pitch black night sky that consumed every thing around them, as a lizard crawled over the fence that shielded the home they shared, as she drifted of into a peaceful sleep, it was in this moment he realized he truly, madly, deeply loved her. He has always been quite fond of her, infatuated even, but now he knew that from this moment on he would never be able to bare parting with her. He was just a lost empty soul, roaming the earth in search of himself, and isntead he found love. A love so powerful and strong that it filled him to the brim with joy. Every crack from his battered heart had been filled and ever jagged edge had been renewed. He hated the thought of another man having what he has with her. The thought made him feel sick to his stomach and nearly drove him mad. He refused to entertain the idea of loosing her, for loosing her meant losing himself, and he couldnt stand to lose anything after going his whole life without anything to lose
