i’m excited to get my own place in Seattle. i’m excited to decorate it to my liking. i’m excited to do things my way. i’m excited to call it MY home, MY very own home. 4 more weeks then I hit the rode with my parents. 2800 mile road trip to Seattle, just the three of us. I am excited and also dreading this trip but we’ll say i’m more excited.

Badass female athletes squash their body issues in ESPN’s body issue

ESPN magazine’s annual Body Issue hit newsstands Monday, showcasing some of the world’s most celebrated athletes in all their chiseled, well-toned glory. Yet it’s also become an opportunity to interrogate American standards of beauty. For instance, this year’s issue features Brittney Griner, who has faced a wealth of controversy over her gender.

Photo #1- I went to explore Spruce Street Harbor with my roommates last weekend. It's a cool little spot in the city with food trucks, hammocks, a beer garden, games and other activities. I tried a fried chicken sandwich where the chicken is battered with donut batter. Photo #2- my cousin made instant saimin with butter and cheese. Don't knock it till you try it. Google the recipe- it's super easy, and it's super good.

My cousin's husband is amazing. It's not the fact that he's a general surgeon who was in charge of the entire operating room at my current hospital, but for his humility and for his character. Everyone at work that knew we were related often told me how lucky our OR was to have him, they've never had a Chief of Surgery with his demeanor and skill. What's amazing is how genuine he is, he is the same person in the operating room as he is at home. He leaves tomorrow to Hawaii to start a new job at UH and Queens Hospital and he leaves me inspired. He has traveled everywhere in the U.S., is sought after by many hospitals, but he still chooses to go back home. Family does play a part in the move but I know a part of him is doing it so that he can improve it for the next generation of doctors. That's what I ultimately want to do with my career- I want to go home and be in academics/ work in a management position so I can improve the structure for the next gen of nurses. There's a line in the last chapter in The House on Mango Street that I often remember when I think about my career path, (I don't know if this is the exact quote since I just googled what I remembered but), it goes something like this- "They will not know I have gone away to come back. For the ones I left behind. For the ones who cannot out."

May's flying by so fast. I went to a masquerade party at the Eastern State Penitentiary (name drop: Al Capone was held here for a few months). Cost aside, it was quite fun- all inclusive drinks and food and got to explore different parts of the prison. I've lived next to this (closed) prison for a year now and this was my first time stepping inside. Makes me bummed I never got to go to Alcatraz. Anyways, pretty excited for the upcoming week!

Currently looking at this mess right now. That’s probably the most creative shoe rack I’ll ever make/see. Anyways I’ve been slowly packing my things, I’m surprised at how much stuff I’ve accumulated since I’ve moved here. Having to fit my life in boxes again is bittersweet, reminds me of where I've been and where I'm going. Corny, I know.

As of late

So I started working again as of April 14th. It's nice to be back at work, definitely nice feeling all the love from my coworkers- all the "we've missed you," "so glad you're back," comments definitely put a smile on my face. Now fast forward to now, about 2 weeks into work and I'm like, uhh can I go back to traveling? Jk. Kinda. I love/ hate work but what can I say. Anyways, about finding my next move, I found it, I'm excited for it, I can't wait. Now it's just a matter of crossing more things off my east coast must-do list before I go.

Exploring more of Philadelphia, this time with my bfffff Chris. Got to cross some things off my personal east coast must-do list which are tour (and have a beer tasting at) the Philadelphia brewing company and check out the Magic Gardens. So nice catching up with him, hopefully I'll be seeing him again this summer!
