We thank greatly everyone who participated, and those that supported us! We hope that you enjoy this zine and show some love to our lovely contributors and moderators <3 Happy crafting and keep adventuring!
If you haven’t gotten one with an invite to the discord by this point, you have not been accepted, apologies for not sending individual rejection messages.
would a moodboard like the 3x3 found on tumblr work as an collage?
We've discussed this, and unfortunately, we wouldn't count that in for the zine. If you want to submit a moodboard, it should preferrably be more transformative/credit the photos you've used. We wouldn't set strict direct guidelines on, say, precise layout or amount of images that should be used, but you can judge for yourself what size moodboard/collage project you could work on for a several months.
Hello! I see you've listed joe's poetry prompts as part of the theme. Would that mean poetry related to his prompts would count as a valid submission even if the poem itself isn't necessarily related to the Arts and Crafts theme?
Yes! The theme is optional, and a poem based on Joe's prompts is directly related to Joe Hills.
Joezine 2: The Hermit That Crafts applications are officially open!
Link to participant applications! | Link to moderator applications!
(Application period is over!)
We are beginning to look for participants and moderators! Feel free to share the forms with whoever you know, they will be open from September 3rd to September 13th!
More information on the zine can be found below, if your question wasn’t answered here then check the interest check here!
General information:
This zine is NON-PROFIT. We are planning to release it free for print for whoever wants to, and the plan is to give Joe Hills a physical copy by the end. The participants will reserve full ownerships of their artworks and we will not be using the art outside of the zine.
Zine rules:
1. Don't post your individual piece before the zine is out;
2. We are accepting all art that can be printed in high quality (ie digital art, writing, poetry, scanned traditional art, high res photos of the crafts, etc);
3. Keep to A4 sized formatting (3508 x 2480 px, 297 x 210 mm), 300 DPI for drawings;
4. Maximum 1000 words for written work;
5. Include the materials you used for crafts;
6. No NSFW or explicit work, light gore is allowed in regards to Zombiecleo;
7. You need to have Discord and respond to progress checks.
How will the participants be chosen?
The first priority would be diversity of content - so, for example if we already have ten digital artists, we would prioritise a writer or a sculptor. We want this to be fun and original! The second priority would be art skill. Don’t let this discourage you! Most likely there won’t be many rejections, we don’t expect this to blow up.
We reserve the right to reject any and all bigots or people that would otherwise ruin the participation experience.
Is there a specific theme?
Yes! The theme is arts and crafts. This can refer to either Joe and Cleo’s arts and crafts streams themselves, any of Joe’s creations (including poetry prompts, Minecraft builds, Team Snow Day works, real life crafts - anything goes!) Following the theme is optional, but please keep it clearly and directly related to Joe Hills.
Event timeline:
Signup period: Sep 3rd - 13th
Discord server invites / rejection notifications sent out: Sep 18th
Progress checks: Oct 17th, Nov 5th,
Due date: Nov 19th
Compiling period + extensions (only up to one week!): Nov Nov 20th - 27th
So the last Joezine was made a while ago, all the way back in 2020. That’s 2 years ago now. There are more Joe Hills fans now. And what’s better than putting that appreciation into a fanzine!
The theme for this zine would be: Arts and Crafts!
In this zine, we want to encourage people to submit as many varied forms of crafts as possible! We allow in as much as we can, from digital or traditional drawing, prose or poetry, to textile arts, papercraft, word searches, puzzles, sculpting, fanskinning, collages and more!
If this sounds interesting to you, feel free to reblog, some details and questions are under cut!
Joehills-inspired things are a-okay! As long as there is a clear relation to Joe Hills (using one of his prompts for poetry, fanart of his Minecraft bases, making a bracelet in his color scheme, etc.) then you're good!

But what is a fanzine?
It’s a portmanteau of “fan” and “magazine”! Pretty much exactly what it says on the tin - a zine made by and for other fans, usually consisting of assembled art and writing.
What submissions would be allowed?
We want this zine to be printable, so we will have to not include anything involving gifs/video/audio.
For 3D art such as sculpting, some textile art or digital modelling, you will need to provide a clear and polished render or photograph of your creation. You can include instructions on how to make the piece, if you want to (such as patterns for a plushie or a crosstitch).
If you aren’t sure if what you’re making would be allowed or not, feel free to ask!
This zine will be for mostly general audiences, so try to keep everything Gen and appropriate. No sexually suggestive works, but mild gore is allowed, since we expect ZombieCleo to be in a lot of the pieces and they are, well, a zombie.
Who is behind the zine?
We will be opening moderation applications if enough people are interested to do this, but so far our team consists of me, Ohnoitsoak and AvivaKitty!
